Overview

The Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless System provides a pure signal with a clarity that rivals that of the highest-quality guitar cables. Guitars get a beautiful high-end sparkle and basses get a thunderous low-end punch, even at distances of up to 200 feet. Traditional wireless systems compromise the sound of your instrument by rolling-off crucial high- and low-end frequencies and compressing their signals. This system on the other hand, offers superior sound with full bandwidth and zero compression.

Professional Dependability
Broadcasting over the 2.4GHz band keeps the Line 6 Relay G50's signal free from many kinds of interference. Traditional wireless guitar systems are susceptible to dropouts, static, and many other kinds of interference. Broadcasting over congested UHF bands, their signals may be affected by interference generated as far away as 100 miles or more. For added security, the Relay G50 employs exclusive signal protection technology, simultaneously broadcasting encrypted data streams to multiple antennas.

Refreshing Simplicity
The Relay G50 is a low-profile wireless system that's easy to use. The lightweight transmitter remains out of the way of your performance and its LCD displays channel number and battery life. The rugged metal receiver offers bright and easy-to-read LEDs that display power, status, and battery life. Its dual 1/4" outputs make it an easy addition to your pedal board.

Attached to Your Guitar Cable?
For players attached to cables, adopting a wireless system introduces many questions: What will it feel like? Will it change my sound? The Line 6 Relay G50 sounds just like a cable, but it also sounds just like your cable. It features EQ settings that match the frequency responses of typical guitar cables. Different players use different cables, but all players can use Relay G50.

The Wireless Revolution
Relay G50 is proudly ushering in a better-sounding and more dependable era of wireless guitar systems. It will inspire you to explore new areas of your music and the stage.

The wireless guitar system comes complete with transmitter, receiver and all necessary accessories including locking cable, power supply, and batteries.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

I've bought two Relay G50's and as nice as they sound I've found that the collar that holds the wire into the transmitter will eventually crack and break since its made of plastic. This unit could be spectacular if it wasn't for this fatal flaw in the design. Also the clip that holds the transmitter unto the guitar strap could hold better. Having said that it's by far my favorite sounding wireless unit for the money. It doesn't change the tone of the guitar or if it does itۡs very little. I've never had a problem with outside noise bleeding in. I also love the compact design. I wish I could get a hold of the designers of the Relay G50 transmitter. This is a problem that could be fixed very easily. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this problem is a deal breaker for any potential purchases that I will make of another Line 6 wireless system in the future.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

first of all, this little dude is Completely made of steel! i remember braking 2 of my previous wireless systems on the road or even at a LIVE performance because of the lack of Hard, tough material. second, the CABLE TONE section: awesome tone, through amp heads or direct box, can take 5th bass strings, and any jack output instrument. Highly recommended !!! l..l rock on

Solid and even more solid

By Chuck

from Olalla, WA

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

Out in the front yard, in the back, in the basement and on the roof, no location is out of touch with this bad boy! Solid mechanical construction adorns an even more solid digital signal processing system with absolutely no interference or unwanted signal distortion. This is a solid buy that does exactly what it is designed to do. Control locking on the transmitter is a nice touch, so you don't dump out during a kicking jam due to a misplaced elbow. Simple, reliable and powerful, I will never go with another unit again...except maybe a G90! Free yourself from the cable!

Best Wireless System

By Felix Nieto

from Laurel, MD

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

The Line 6 Wireless Systems are in my opinion the best in wireless because of certain design features. In wireless guitar systems there is this thing called a compander. It is used to receive the compressed signal from the transmitter. In doing this companders usually loose some of the highs and the lows from the signal. This is the reason some guitarists really hate wireless systems. But Line 6 in creating their wireless does not use companders which means you get the whole 118 dB dynamic range. So if you want a dependable system that gives you the whole range and is even clearer than a cable, although you can change the option on the receiver, then you definitely should buy this!

Works great for bass guitar

By Jeffrey Lyons

from Orange County, CA

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I play bass in a heavier rock band. We are as bass-driven as we are guitar-driven, so it's important that the bass be as up front as possible. I originally had a Shure PGX system, but I always felt like I was losing something at shows. I just chalked it up to being in a larger room with less focused sound (versus our rehearsal room). Then I had the genius idea of trying a side-by-side test at rehearsal. I switched from cable to wireless and was blown away by how much signal (volume and frequency) I was losing with the PGX. I immediately pulled it from my rig and hunted down something new. A lot of players seemed to recommend the Line6 X2 (I think that's what it was) which isn't made anymore I guess, so I gave the G50 a try. This thing is a spot on match to my cable, near as I can tell. It makes sense if you check the manufacturer specs on the PGX vs. the G50; G50 has a much wider response range.

Amazingly clear sound & high-quality construction

By Ron Sartore

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I picked this based on the many other reviews and was not disappointed. I am a critcal reviewer who does not lavish five stars on products often - so this endorsement is unusal for me. My 5 stars is on sound quality (clarity) and noiselessness. Other comments: The guitar side transmitter unit is a bit heavy and my only concern about that is it sometimes knocks against the quitar when taking the strap off. The two AA batteries I figure will last about 10 hours of playing although my usage model is for several 1-2 hour sessions. (The batteries recover somewhat after each session). There is a light on the transmitter that indicates battery life and it turns red when there is less than an hour or so... convenient at-a-glance indication where the lcd display provides and estimate of life left (hours and minutes). Great product -- very pleased.

Two defective units?

By Andrew Rodger

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I was excited to purchase this product after reading tons of positive reviews, and watching many videos on this product. I'm convinced now, that all of these people either; 1: Play ska or reggae, where you only need quick upstrokes, or 2: Play bass and don't care for sustain. After returning my first unit for having almost no sustain being transmitted to a receiver, I picked up a new sealed unit. This one was slightly better, but still would cut off the end of my notes with a slight crackle. It sounded very similar to an over-powered noise gate. I may have just been one of the unlucky few, but a quick trip to the Line 6 support forums will show you that MANY people have been having the same quality issue. I returned this and upgraded to a Sennheiser system. I am still waiting to have faith in any product that Line 6 makes...meh, the pod is pretty cool.

Solid Piece of Equipment

By Craig

from Lancaster PA

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I've been looking at wireless systems for awhile and finally made the move - definitely glad I did. I narrowed my search down to the Shure GLX-D or the Line 6 G50. Both systems were extremely clear with no tonal loss. I guess the tone loss came with the older systems but certainly none with either of theses systems. I ended up going with the Line 6 because it was a few dollars less expensive so essentially I was paying for a pedal board tuner I didn't need because I already have one. To make this review a bit easier I'll list some PROs and CONs with regards to the Line 6 PROs - Solid hardware all around - Extremely clear signal - Ease of use and set up - Has a feature where you can select cord lengths to simulate resistance. Frankly all it does is rolls of the tone a bit which you could do with the tone knob on your guitar but hey - thought I's mention it. - Cost, it is the priced the best of wireless systems with the same features. Like I mentioned if you aren't in need of a pedal board tuner you may want to save the $$s. CONs - Batteries, Not sure if this is a pro or con yet. The Shure system has a rechargeable battery system where the Line 6 has Double AAs. This means another battery sucker on in the line up. However, I have had other systems with rechargeable batteries and when they wore in a bit the life span dropped off and you were kind of stuck with it. So it can go either way depending on how you look at it. - Battery Life, Still experimenting with this one but when they claim 8+hours I believe this assumes you are just turning it on and letting it sit there. Mine went from +4 hours down to +:25 minutes pretty quick when I was actually playing. I'm going to do some more work around how much functional time I get out of a set of batteries but I maybe something to keep in mind if you are moving to any wireless system. - Tech Support. I have several Shure products (mics etc) and can tell you their tech support it top notch. I have not had to exercise the tech support for the wireless G50 but I do have a Line 6 HD400 and if the support is anything like that it will not get good marks. Essentially Line 6 tech support is other users who hopefully have had the same problem and will share with you how they got around it. Their customer blog is the main tech support. - Transmitter clip for belt or guitar strap. I put mine on my belt because I can switch between guitars easily. The clip on the G50 is a monster. Guess it is also a PRO cause it isn't coming off once you get it on but if you need to switch out quickly you may have some struggles. Not a big deal but thought I's mention it. There are after market holder you can get that I am looking into. Will leave it at this for now - hope this helps you in your search!

OFF THE CHAIN!

By Rick

from linton indiana

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

The Line 6 Relay G50 digital wireless sytem is worth every cent I paid! It's nice to be off the chain and able to throw down with the crowd when we play. I had my g50 set up behind the front of house amps and my Bass rig totaly hidden from view while I ran out the front door of the club and across the street, I didn't even get a delay in the notes like with some...most...ALL anolog units. The battery display on the transmiter shows time left withing 20 minutes, I shut off my transmitter after each set(1hour and change) for our breaks (10 min) and at the end of the night it still showed over 7 hours of juice left in the batteries. The reciver had a dial to simulate cable use, selectable in feet/meters of the cable you normaly use, it darkens the sound to your taste, however, there is no tone loss or need to select cable length other than personal preferance. If your on the fence about this unit your just wasting time you want it, it preforms great, GET IT! very sturdy construction it doesn't feel like a toy in your hands, road worthy. I carry the transmitter in my back pocket "bad experience with strap clips in general" and it works just fine. The only thing I regret is not getting it sooner!! Line 6 Relay G50,stop wasting time reading this and get one!

G50 may be underrated by some

By James Cornelius

from Tampa, FL

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

Quality out of box is excellent. Battery life is extreme. The frequency response is better than most dogs hear. Works perectly on bass. The stock cable seems to be quality, it is noise free and the connector fits snugly as well. I did order a spare cable though. Range is beyond what is practical. Unless you destroy your gear while performing this should last as long as you treat it like any other expensive piece of gear. Go get it!

Works perfectly!

By JERRY STARBUCK

from Arlington, VA

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

There is not much more to say in praise of the Line 6 Relay G50. It works perfectly! There are several videos on YouTube that will answer all your questions. You won?t even need the manual. Hint: I attached the "sender" to my bass guitar strap using the clip. However, wanting a little more protection from the inevitable knocks, I wrapped the sender with Velcro One-Wrap Tie Rolls (available at home improvement stores). This stuff sticks to itself without glue. You can easily remove the wrap when needed.

Fantastic!

By Richard Franklin

from Austin, Tx

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I went wireless a few months back using a cheap AKG WMS 40. I liked the freedom of not dragging around cable when I played but my strat just didn't sound quite right. I found an opportunity to buy the G50 and I have to say, it's well worth the money. I used my Ditto X2 to record a few licks with a cable and left a pause after each one so I could play it again using the G50 and then compared the two. I could not hear the difference. I played with the Cable Tone feature thing but it just seems like it rolls off some of the top end which I don't care for. I just leave it off and the sound is great. On the low power setting, the range is sufficient for moving around on stage. The High power setting lets you go a pretty good ways from the receiver so during sound check I can go out into the seats and listen to my tone. The transmitter is heavy but it's built like a tank. I generally wear it on my strap since I change guitars some and the size and weight are a little much for that application. If belt worn it would probably be a none issue. This unit is pricey but if you need a wireless pack that you can depend on and will not impact your guitar tone, this is the one I would recommend. I do want to add that for acoustic applications, the AKG WMS 40 is a decent solution. It adds a bit of compression to the signal and actually complements the pickup on my acoustic. Your mileage may vary.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

This this works great! Doesn't color the sound much if at all and Im very happy that it takes "AA" batteries instead of 9 volt. Will be purchasing another one so I can use a different one with each guitar (i.e. Acoustic, electric or bass) as I switch guitars quickly on stage and have different levels set for each one.

Untethered Atlast

By John

from Endicott NY

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I have been thinking of purchasing a wireless unit for some time. Read a lot of reviews and poled my fellow gigging musicians. I work 6-8 gigs each month and wanted a solid performer. When the Line6 G50 went on sale this fall, I pulled the trigger. This unit is made of steel. After 10 gigs I am thoroughly satisfied. Sound quality is excellent. The batteries (2 AA's) last 2 gigs.

Great Wirless Product

By RICKY

from New Baden, IL

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

This is a great wireless system. The bandwidth is very reliable. When I say reliable, understand that I make sure I don't have any competing 2.4 ghz wireless products in close proximity, and if there are, I try to use a channel far from the competing wireless device or devices. I almost purchased the G30. Thank God I didn't. My friend's G30 cuts out for a quick nano second from time to time. The G50 comes with two exterior antennas. That little extra makes the difference in performances. I haven't dropped yet, even with my friend's G30 receiver 15 feet from me. You will get close to 8 - 10 hours of battery life. I would suggest using lithium AA batteries, this may prolong your play by a couple of hours. That is why I love the battery and signal display on the receiver. If it's hard to see the labeling (most likely it will be hard to see), just remember that the battery display is on the bottom. The tone quality is outstanding. I read a customer's review about sustain problems. I haven't experience any sustain issues. I can hold notes on my bass, as if it was going through a quality wired system. All in all, it is a great wireless product.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

If you're a hardcore musician, or a musician that just enjoys moving around this wireless systems battery door could pose a serious problem. The battery door is extremely loose and often will cause the transmitter to restart mid performance. This can be fixed with tape as well as the right battery but its worth mentioning nonetheless. Even with this being said, i absolutely love this wireless system.

Product is great buy. This was the first wireless system I've bought so I don't have a lot to compare to. But this thing gets no complaints from me. Sound is just as if I had a cord. Also very durable and very easy to use. Just turn it on and plug it in. I play bass and I didn't lose any low end with this system. The battery's did last the 8 hours just wish it was more!
