Overview

The Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless System provides a pure signal with a clarity that rivals that of the highest-quality guitar cables. Guitars get a beautiful high-end sparkle and basses get a thunderous low-end punch, even at distances of up to 200 feet. Traditional wireless systems compromise the sound of your instrument by rolling-off crucial high- and low-end frequencies and compressing their signals. This system on the other hand, offers superior sound with full bandwidth and zero compression.

Professional Dependability
Broadcasting over the 2.4GHz band keeps the Line 6 Relay G50's signal free from many kinds of interference. Traditional wireless guitar systems are susceptible to dropouts, static, and many other kinds of interference. Broadcasting over congested UHF bands, their signals may be affected by interference generated as far away as 100 miles or more. For added security, the Relay G50 employs exclusive signal protection technology, simultaneously broadcasting encrypted data streams to multiple antennas.

Refreshing Simplicity
The Relay G50 is a low-profile wireless system that's easy to use. The lightweight transmitter remains out of the way of your performance and its LCD displays channel number and battery life. The rugged metal receiver offers bright and easy-to-read LEDs that display power, status, and battery life. Its dual 1/4" outputs make it an easy addition to your pedal board.

Attached to Your Guitar Cable?
For players attached to cables, adopting a wireless system introduces many questions: What will it feel like? Will it change my sound? The Line 6 Relay G50 sounds just like a cable, but it also sounds just like your cable. It features EQ settings that match the frequency responses of typical guitar cables. Different players use different cables, but all players can use Relay G50.

The Wireless Revolution
Relay G50 is proudly ushering in a better-sounding and more dependable era of wireless guitar systems. It will inspire you to explore new areas of your music and the stage.

The wireless guitar system comes complete with transmitter, receiver and all necessary accessories including locking cable, power supply, and batteries.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

I bought this unit almost a year ago. I read my original review, and felt it was too light on information for any potential buyer.

Here is my revised review, after working with this unit for the past 9 months. I have used it at every weekly practice, since purchase.

Being in a KISS tribute requires wireless usage for the cool factor, and safety issues (platform boots).

I was initially very skeptical about the capability of a wireless. Being a former owner of a Nady RW-1 (which is a piece of garbage) I was not very jazzed about exchanging my trusty instrument cable for a tone-sucking, battery-eating, unreliable wireless.

However, times have changed

After talking to band mates and consulting online forums, the Line6 G50 was frequently mentioned. With a sigh of hesitation, I took the plunge and purchased a used (mint condition) G50 from Musicians Friend.

PROS:

-I have experienced no signal thinning or loss. In fact, my tone has more presence with my wireless.

-The output knob that matches the length of instrument cord from receiver to amp is cool, and takes the guess work out of how much output should be dialed in on the wireless receiver.

-The low battery light not only flashes on your transmitter, but the receiver as well. This is especially helpful if your wireless receiver is offstage with a guitar/bass tech. The indicator gives them ample, advanced warning of future battery failure.

-The audio light is another great indicator, and streamlines troubleshooting. This light flickers on both the transmitter and receiver, enabling the user to verify that the wireless is both transmitting and receiving signal.

-The programming features are simple enough to use and alter. However, this unit does so many cool functions, that it is wise to keep the operator manual in your gig bag.

-The transmitter power on/off button doesnt make my rig pop. Very nice.

-The transmitter mute button is great and works well in quick change situations.

-You can program text to appear on the screen of the transmitter. Kind of a cool feature to prevent transmitters from getting mixed up with band members.

-The power save feature is great for situations when youre playing in small areas, and dont need as much reach. I use this all the time to maximize battery life, when at practice.

-The battery life on this unit is spectacular. I can easily do three, 3-hour practices, before I need to change batteries.

-I like that they use AA batteries for this unit.

-The metal transmitter & receiver cases are pretty rugged, but I try to not abuse my wireless.

-The receiver antennas are short, robust, and do not be extended to function. They usually stay tucked down on my pedal board.

-Swapping out batteries in the transmitter is a breeze.

-Line 6 furnished this unit with 12 different channels, which can be easily changed with a knob on the receiver and a few functions on the transmitter. This feature enables many members in a band to use the G50.

-In full power mode, I can get pretty far from my amp. I havent tested its limit, but Ive messed with it in long distances, equal to large stages. I have had no problems.

CONS:

-The transmitter connection is probably the weakest point of this unit. I havent had any problems, but I always keep my transmitter in its own little box when not in use.

-The channel knob on my receiver was changed to a different channel by accident. It took me 5 minutes to troubleshoot my signal loss. Fortunately, this occurred at practice.

-Line 6 furnishes this unit with a straight jack transmitter cord. I purchased a Shure angled jack cord to prevent any accidental guitar jack or wireless transmitter cord damage. The line 6 cord is now a spare.

-Id highly recommend getting a spare transmitter cord. From what Ive read, its the weakest point on this unit.

-As robust as this wireless looks, its still delicate electronic gear. If you plan to have it on the floor, be smart and have it protected on a pedal board. Id imagine the antennas could be snapped if stepped on.

Im very happy with this wireless, and Im glad that affordable technology has finally caught up to the trusty instrument cable. If you want to explore the freedom of going wireless, Id urge you to try the Line6 G Series.

I had this unit and it stopped working after 9 months of use. I am extremely careful with my unit never, dropped or abused. Called Line 6, they were extremely rude and would not fix a thing even though I had registered it and it was suppose to have a 1 year warranty. Warranty is only as good as your word and theirs is no good. They said they could sell me another. I wouldn't buy anything from them ever!!!! I have a lot of equiptment and have never been treated like they treated me.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

If you're a hardcore musician, or a musician that just enjoys moving around this wireless systems battery door could pose a serious problem. The battery door is extremely loose and often will cause the transmitter to restart mid performance. This can be fixed with tape as well as the right battery but its worth mentioning nonetheless. Even with this being said, i absolutely love this wireless system.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I've owned TWO of these transmitters and both fell apart within 6 months of use. The battery compartment door design is a joke. People have complained about the cheaper G-30 having problems. This one is just as bad. Don't waste your money on such a piece of junk.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I have used my g50 for many shows now almost two to three shows per week since 2014. I previously purchased a Sure analog unit for around 400.00 and had quite a few glitches when near high end security and camera systems present in some venue locations. I purchased the g50 which is Digital as well and it's been a flawless for the past a year and a half to two years. Line6 is definitely a good choice for wireless equipment. I do still use more expensive sure wireless mics that have also been reliable as well. Seems you take a chance with any brand now that all companies are using parts from overseas that may not have the American quality control.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

I saw some of the reviews about this unit that were pretty scathing. I have been using this unit for a few years now. I love it. Doesn't suck tone. Sounds as good as cable imo. I play live about every other weekend. I use this even on small stages because I got so used to NOT getting tangled in my cables. My base sits velcroed on top of my axe-fx and sometimes gets knocked off in transit. Still no issues. The only thing I can think of is that I should have a spare interconnect cable. I just put my transmitter in my back pocket and have at it. This is probably why I should have a spare cable. It puts a little extra stress on the ends. did I just get lucky? BTW my bass player bought one right after he heard mine. He has no issues either. I'm guessing people who are having no problems are busy making music. I rarely write reviews but saw the bad ones here when I was looking for a spare cable and had to speak up. I would buy this again and HAVE referred to friends. For the price, it,s a winner.
Oh yeah....I can't comment on customer service because I haven't needed them. If the other comments are true then shame on Line-6. Anyway, mine is passed the warranty so I don't imagine I'll be calling them if anything goes wrong.

Product is great buy. This was the first wireless system I've bought so I don't have a lot to compare to. But this thing gets no complaints from me. Sound is just as if I had a cord. Also very durable and very easy to use. Just turn it on and plug it in. I play bass and I didn't lose any low end with this system. The battery's did last the 8 hours just wish it was more! Overall a great product!

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

This unit sounds really good now. When I first tried to use it, evidently the factory setting on the transmitter is RF2. I was getting dropouts and bad reception until I read a few blogs regarding the factory setting of the transmitter. Once I changed the setting to RF1, I got the sound and reception that I was looking for. I have played three gigs now with the transmitter working properly and the whole unit sounds really good.

Comments about Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System:

Ive used this wireless system while playing in a Contemporary Rock Worship Band. I will admit that I was concerned of "letting go of the cord" thinking I would loose Bottom End. I don't worry about that any longer! Another concern that I had is that every band member is on wireless systems and the 150 people that are in the house carry cell-smart phones and I haven't lost signal one time. I set the Cord Feature on half and I cannot tell the difference in this unit compared to a cord. The ONLY con, and it may not be a con as I don't stare at the battery indicator, is when the battery's fail there isn't any warning. But again, I cant and don't want to stare at the battery indicator while playing. With that said, this Wireless System hasn't failed me yet and I don't expect it to!
