Line 6 hits it out of the park with the pocket pod; however, you'll be lucky to get 6-8 hrs. of battery life out of a new change of batteries. It sounds great in headphones, and even great in the studio, and even great on tape. I primarily use it with my ipod to cop new songs and to wail in the middle of the night.

I was really hoping to like the Pocket Pod, since it was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to be able to play guitar in bed, or when I'm travelling, with headphones and have access to various effects and amp models. I planned on using this to come up with new songs and to practice old ones. But even though it had all the features I was looking for, I was pretty disappointed and ended up returning it after a month. Build Quality - First of all, for the price, I think the Pod is too cheap feeling. The quality of the plastic and the knobs felt like it should cost about 1/2 as much. Usability - People complain about the difficulty in accessing the features, but I don't think it's much of a problem. You can't access all of the settings with the knobs, but you can tweak them with the software available online. Given that portability is a key feature, I can't find fault in a limited number of controls. You have access to all of the features you need. Sound Quality - This is where the product completely fails, in my opinion. The clean sounds were decent, and some of the really high gain or heavily modulated sounds were neat. But other than that, all the sounds were very thin and harsh sounding. I tried downloading the most popular sounds online, and they still didn't sound good to me. If you're looking for really high gain or metal sounds, and don't mind the digital harshness, it might work for you. I have a last-gen Digitech RP250 multi-effects pedal and I find the sounds to be much warmer and fuller. I'm considering trying out the Korg Pandora, or I may just hold off until something better comes out down the road.

Very good deal

By VERNON

from Mesa, Arizona

The pocket pod is great for certain uses. If you are needing effects for use nightly in a band, it's probably not your best choice. If you want something to use with a good headset at home that sounds great and gives you quite a few options, it would be hard to beat. I bought it for that reason, so I can practice without waking the house, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sound and effects when plugged into my tube amp. The build quality is good, but it won't be as durable as a foot pedal effect, but that isn't what it's for. My only question would be why they say not to use rechargeable batteries. I have seen many reviews where people use rechargeable batteries for years with no problem at all. The software is decent and easy to use if you spend a short amount of time trying to learn it. Many of the downloadable settings are not great, but that isn't the fault of the product, it is because they are uploaded by users. Not everyone thinks the same things sound good. For the price, if you are looking for a portable headset amp/ home effect box it is hard to beat.

Great Product

By William LaBerge

from Austin, Tx

I think its important to take note, that a lot of the reviews done on this item are from 08' and 09'.. The software and firmware have had a lot of updates and tweaking done, the tones are what you would expect from Line 6, Glorious. I haven't downloaded user tones yet, but there are thousands to choose from. I scooped this up at a pawn shop, but its well worth the money, I have a small practice amp, and this thing along with a daddy o...blues sounds are awesome, metal sounds are great, I'm very happy with this, it packs a lot into a small item, the tone is VERY good. I'd say the only downside is that its NOT a pedal. I set mine on a coffee table sit on the couch and jam. Its PERFECT for practice and I'd even use it for recording, love it. Buy it!

Great Tone... while it lasts

By JOSH ULCH

from Detroit

I've had my Pocket Pod for about 18 months. It has fantastic tones, easy to setup user presets with the computer, works great for recording. By far, the best tube like tone for any multi-effects unit on the market. If it was based upon that alone, I'd give it five stars. But I took one star away because it only has a 90 day warranty. I've never seen a guitar product have such a short warranty except for something like strings. The unit developed a nasty hum and its out of warranty. Took another star away because the Pocket Pod developed a nasty ground hum that wouldn't go away unless you touched the outer jack of the guitar cable. (I changed guitars, cables, and reversed the polarity of the Line 6 power supply, no dice). Tried to contact Line 6 and their "authorized" repair center wants $65 just to look at it. Really? Half the price of a new unit just to look at it? great tones, poor reliability.

nice unit

By Mark

from indanapolis In.

Great efects, great price, great battery drain ( the down side ) .. I've played for over 40 years and this product is worth the money. In a working band ( bar and stage etc.) it might not stand up. But in a home or studio it would work great. On the road no way, but in the motel WAY!!!!

Don't Hesitate

By Paxuco Piglet

from Anaheim, California

I wasn't sure if the POD would be everything I hoped for, but it was and more. To get this thing ready, all I do is connect the adapter into the wall (no batteries), connect my guitar, connect headphones, and jam. The variety of sounds from this tiny thing is amazing and impressed even some of my friends who are veterans at guitar. This is a great product with a better price, so don't hesitate like I did! I wish I had gotten this thing sooner! It makes practice so much more fun with its versatility in sounds. And better yet, you can download more from the Internet. I found one that mimics Pantera's first CD pretty well! GET IT!!!!

great little thing

By poncho gonzalez

from saltillo, mexico

I've played semiprofessionally for 17 years and have owned from the cheapests amps and effects to bassman and deluxe reverb amps. I use my pocket pod with a crate power block and sounds amazing. I took the preset called BAD and turned the mids and treble all the way up as well as the drive (half way) and sounds like a real tube amp (with dynamics included).Tweak the knobs and find your own voice. I also own the POD 2.0 Both are great!

Great for Travel

By O-G

from La Porte, IN.

This POD works great. I use it for traveling for business along with the TravelerGuitar. The combo works great. I was really impressed with the sound quality. I use the POD X3 Live normally and didn't expect to get the same sounds but it's very close. I get some great sounds, software works well, plug in the IPOD and I find myself playing for hours at the hotel and on layovers at the airort. It's small so very portable. I have no complaints. If you want something small, portable, inexpesive but still sounds great I think you should try this.

Dynamite comes in small packages

By Matt Jackson

from Katy, TX

This little box has everything in it and more than my buddies original rack mounted pod. I can't tell you how versatile this pocket pod is. Any sound you want, it's in there. Any sound you want to create, done, just dial it in and your off to the races. Line6 has made me a permanent believer in their products. I won't use anything else for my guitar. I play a Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany with Seymour Duncan '59s in it and the tone I get from this pod is awesome. Go Buy One Today!
