UX2, Low Noise for the Clear Recordings
The Line 6 UX2 recording interface boasts amazingly low noise for recording guitar, 12dB more dynamic range than similar interfaces, for clear and dynamic recordings. Plus, exclusive Line 6 ToneDirect monitoring virtually eliminates latency, allowing you to record with amp and effect modeling without sacrificing tone or feel.

Versatile and powerful, the UX2 interface boasts a comprehensive I/O featuring two 1/4-inch guitar inputs (normal or pad), two balanced XLR inputs with high-quality mic preamps, phantom power and trim knobs, a 1/4-inch stereo monitor input, two 1/4-inch line inputs, two balanced 1/4-inch line outputs, S/PDIF digital output, a 1/4-inch stereo headphone output with level control, and a pair of assignable VU meters for a truly pro recording experience.

Start Recording Guitar Licks Right Out of the Box
POD Studio UX2 includes POD Farm plug-in and award-winning Reason Adapted production software featuring a sought-after sequencer and tons of stunningly lifelike instruments. This collection of studio-standard hardware and software provides instant pro recording, right out of the box.

Public Service Announcement: Latency Kills
Recording with latency is like driving with your eyes closed. Line 6's ToneDirect monitoring allows you to record and monitor a fully processed tone while virtually eliminating latency and taking all the guesswork out of recording great-sounding tracks.

What's latency? Latency is the delay caused by the time it takes your guitar signal to travel all the way through your hardware interface, through your computer's processor, through your plug-in software, back through your hardware interface, and out of your speakers or headphones. This delay is heard in your monitoring signal and makes recording almost impossible. With a POD Studio UX2 interface, latency is something you'll never have to deal with.

I previously used the M audio fast track pro for recording guitars & voices. Not the best, but did a good job. The gain was a little low on the amps. This Line 6 comes with the Pod Farm which is very cool. Virtual guitar amps and gear that actually sound kind of good. But the interface itself is not very friendly. The guitar inputs can't be amplified, neither the line inputs. So, for those of you with weak pickups, you'll suffer a little bit with low signal, and thus, lots of noise and little sustain. The M audio could add gain to the line inputs just fine. Also, it really bugs me that manufactures claim their devices can go as high as 96 KHz sample rate. This one does...with a converter... which completely defeats the purpose of high sample rates. If you try to use it, you'll have enormous latency and sound of the same quality. For real world use, you can't really go that high. You wouldn't buy a Mustang that only puts out 40 hp, right? This is just that. The VU meters look nice but respond very slowly and although they can be programmed, they always seem to switch back to "output". So you can't really tell if you're getting a signal or not until you actually hear it. The thing is huge. Good luck stashing it in your backpack. Since the knobs poke out upwards, it is very hard to store in small places. Maybe I am being too harsh. Other than the little problems listed above, the unit works fine and never causes problems. But be assured that, there are better units out there, even for the same price.

Avoid!

Comments about Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm:

This is a very cheaply-made product. The plastic casing is so light, feels like it's mostly hollow inside. The big sound level gauges do nothing, they are purely decorative and reflect the signal level. My device works so poorly, that I wonder if I just got a defective one. Pretty much the only intake port that works are the two front ones with the guitar logos. The mic inputs don't work, the line inputs don't work. The dials on top to adjust levels do nothing. Every time I change the inputs, the device must be restarted so it understands what you're trying to run. 75% of the time, I get lots of crackle to the sound quality, and after restarting a few times, then it will work clearly. When everything happens to run properly, the sound quality is decent, but boy, it does test your patience!! I cannot recommend this product.

Comments about Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm:

The Line 6 UX2 is a great product, I needed something to record ideas with so I could either try to layer riffs to see if they go well together or to just remember them. This product allows me to do just that. Also has some killer preset tones that comes with the Pod Farm 2.0. On the other hand if you are wanting to get a tone of your very own, you are going to have to try and try again or really know how everything works such as setting up a noise gate, pre-amp, amp head, pedals and so on. I have a good friend who records bands as a job and he loves this thing, says he wouldn't use it for CD recordings but demos or just trying to get your guitar skills out into the world he would use it all day long! Only thing I found that was a slight issue for myself is the headphone jack is a 1/4" and I did not have a adapter laying around so I could not use it for the 1st few days I had it, but now I have one and it works wonders. If I would have had monitors it would not have bothered me because there are monitor out puts on the UX2!

GREAT FOR RECORDING ROUGH TRACKS FOR BANDMATES AND FRIENDS

Comments about Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm:

If your looking for a cheap interface to record some rough song to share with your band mates or friends, this will do the trick! PROS: Very simple to use with USB connection and easy installation of 'POD Farm 2', I had no problems hooking it up with my audio recording software! I think for the price, it's capable of doing a lot. CONS: It doesn't have the best quality in the world (compared to expensive equipment), the distortion is very limited, but for what you pay, its a bang for your buck!

5 stars for the UX2 4 Stars for Pod Farm

Comments about Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm:

The UX2: The UX2 is an amazing. Clear tone and brings through an unbiased tone for guitar. It is a great tool for recording both pro and home. Pod farm: Can easily get some nice tones from it while playing it straight up, but when it comes to recording, the tone dies, becomes fuzzy, and it sounds like you recorded your song with a guitar hero mic. I use the interface and run it through ez-mix2 by toontrack. That software requires little to no post-editing once you record and has a full tone range.

For the price definitely worth it!

    By Tom Beaton

Comments about Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm:

As for all Line 6 gear I've used this guy is definitely does the trick for the money. The tones are what we've all come to expect from Line 6 and as an interface it works just fine. Originally I had intended to completely replace my Firewire audio interface with this unit but I found there was some latency issues so I am using the UX2 as the input device and my existing interface as the output for my DAW. The other thing to consider is that I was originally hoping to record my guitar signals dry and use the Pod Farm plugins in my DAW that come with the unit to process my tones. The issue with doing things that way is again latency with the software monitoring. I'm still researching other ways to do that but for now I am not using the plugins but building my tones in the UX2 which eliminates the latency by incorporating the Line 6 ToneDirect monitoring. The only other issue I had was with editing and saving tones with the Pod Farm software. I spent a fair bit of time on the support sites to see why that wasn't working and found no solutions. Oddly enough once I upgraded my computer from OSX Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion all the editing and saving issues with Pod Farm are gone now... everything works just fine. All things considered I am still very happy with this purchase. It didn't meet all my expectations as an I/O interface but as an signal processing / input device it is definitely worth the money. The guitar tones themselves are worth the $ I dropped on this baby!

    ONLY for beginners.

    By Bryan DiMaio

    from Warwick, RI

Comments about Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm:

I was given this interface about a year ago and since it was my first interface and didn't know any better, I was just glad to have an interface. Through using it, I've noticed some differences from some other similarly priced and better alternatives. When selecting the input to use, I have to go through Gearbox and THEN through the DAW I'm using, which I haven't seen on any other interface I've used. Now let's talk about preamps. The preamps in this unit are noisy, quiet, and they lack definition. They make any microphone sound like it's bottom-of-the-line. The only cool thing about this are the yellow VU meters. Also the chasis is made of plastic and it feels cheap to the touch. All in all Line Six put together my newest paperweight.

    Good for Starters

    By Josh Wiggs

    from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm:

I bought this as a starter for my home studio. You can get a wide variety of tones "out of the box" but for other famous signature tones you must log on to the website to purchase them. Most likely you'll find what you need already on the system anyway. The interface is a little confusing at first but it only takes a few days to know your way around it. Keep in mind that YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Overall good product. If you want something to record more than just guitar/bass that's not made entirely out of plastic then get a higher-priced multi-track recorder.
