Public Service Announcement: Latency Kills
Recording with latency is like driving with your eyes closed. Exclusive to Line 6, ToneDirect monitoring allows you to record and monitor a fully processed tone while virtually eliminating latency and taking all the guesswork out of recording great-sounding tracks.
What's latency? Latency is the delay caused by the time it takes your guitar signal to travel all the way through your hardware interface, through your computer's processor, through your plug-in software, back through your hardware interface and out of your speakers or headphones. This delay is heard in your monitoring signal and makes recording almost impossible. With a Line 6 POD Studio GX interface, latency is something you'll never have to deal with.

Bottom line, this is a great product for the money. It truly is. And if the install wasn't such a tremendous pain in the butt, I'd give it 5 stars. First of all, the install is simply a bear and after you go through a bunch of hassle and time getting it installed (I think it took me about 45 mins-1 hour), it then immediately forces you to upgrade (kiss another 30 minutes goodbye). And if this wasn't enough, the licensing was a pain to get going. I kept thinking I had done what I needed, I'd fire up the software and it would tell me the device wasn't licensed. I was so frustrated, I was honestly about 10 minutes from downloading a cracked version (and I would have felt ZERO guilt for having done so). And this, my friends at Line 6, is why people will be even more likely to pirate your software. As someone who's been in the software development business for 25 years, let me pass along a piece of advice. Anti-piracy stuff does nothing but frustrate legitimate users and pisses them off. Think I'm wrong? Then you didn't read the stuff I just wrote above. Ditch the licensing stuff. Make your install better and DON'T force people to upgrade. Let them decide when they want to upgrade. I finally got the licensing to work, only to discover there was no sound. After seeing the hundreds of similar posts on their web site saying, "I get no sound", it was clear I simply needed to plug the speakers into the device (instead of the computer's main sound card). You know what could save people all these posts? A tiny little sticker saying, "Plug speakers in here." There's no installation guide or anything. Just a stupid little thing that any idiot should be able to figure out by the time the thing is out of beta testing. Finally, Visual Studio 2005? Come on guys, time to upgrade your development environment. VS 2012 just came out. Get with the program. Despite the nightmare of getting it set up, once it was set up, it's an awesome product. I love the huge variety of sound options. I rocking out late at night with headphones with my daughter just down the hall and in my head I hear an arena and in her room, she hears silence. Fix your install and licensing and I'll happily come back and give you guys 5 stars.
I got this about 2 years ago. There was some difficulty setting it up, sometimes the computer would recognize the device and sometimes it wouldn't. I'm a tech savy person and have not had issues with any hardware I use on any of my computers. Line 6 installs a control panel called "Line 6 Audio-Midi Devices" on your computer, there's no problem with this except! IT CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED. It puts its files into your "system32" folder which cannot be removed. Once it's on your computer it is on there for good. I bought an Akai MPK25, it's a phenomenal midi controller, it doesn't work on my computer because the L6 Audio-Midi Device manager is blocking the incoming midi signals. I've talked with microsoft to no avail, no help from the non-existent support from L6 and Akai told me if the MPK25 works on other computers, which it does..both my brother's and my friend's laptops, then they cannot help me with the L6 problem. And to be honest the quality is subpar and sounds thin and for lack of a better term "fake".
Anybody that gives this product anything less than maybe 4 stars either doesn't know how to work a simple computer/interface, or they got a fluke. It does take about 15-20 mins to install everything and authorize/register your product. The tones for metal are really good as well as all of the clean stuff. If your in a band and you need to record awesome sounding guitar or bass get this!
I've always been a fan of the line 6 software and interfaces. in fact i stand by them. the gx did exactly what i intended it to. it served as a good direct input for my guitar, bass, and synth needs. i like this DI box because i can record with NEAR ZERO latency. there really isnt any audible latency but to say 100 percent these days is blasphemy haha. CONS! - the only thing i think this product lacks on is Ins and Outs. i would really like to have a few monitor outputs but you cant have it ALL for this price.. my advice.. GET IT. if you need something with a little more connectivity then go for a larger model like the ux1 or ux2. but this is definitly a good tool for anybody trying to get started on their journey to recording.
Got this pieace of hardware almost a year ago and its still going strong. I often will go to my guitarists house (I play bass) to record on my laptop and I just throw this puppy in my backpack and I'm off! May take awhile to dial in a decent tone without buying the upgrade packs for Pod Farm but definitely workable!
Where to begin? Mine has so many problems, it's no wonder Line6 is constantly issuing new updates to fix . But don't take my word for it, go to the company's website and do a search for "GX" on the support page to see for yourself. Line6 pedals have never let me down in the past, but I'm tossing this thing in the trash.
Awesome product...but VERY cheaply made and unreliable. I have had two of them in the last two years...and they both died on me!
I bought the GX from a local dealer and it only lasted one month. One channel went out. POD far is good but the interface is to cheap and not worth the money
