The Line 6 HD400 rack mount bass head, much like its LD400 Pro combo brother, offers LowDown tone in a powerful, rack-mountable amplifier. Boasting 5 fully adjustable essential tones, including Rock, Clean, R&B, Grind, and Brit, the LowDown HD400 amp head offers pro players uncompromising power, extraordinary versatility, and commanding tonal definition. The Line 6 HD400 bass amp head also comes with a crucial set of 5 effects, including a studio-quality compressor based on the immortal Teletronix LA-2A from the 60's, the Smart Control FX Envelope Filter, Octaver, Chorus, and a full-featured bass Synth with fully adjustable parameters.

The recipe for one great gig after another, night after night, the Line 6 HD400 is a bass amp head that features an array of ins, outs, and hardware like two NL4M-series Speakon speaker outputs, a balanced XLR direct output with exclusive A.I.R. processing, a 1/4" preamp output, an FBV jack, and rock-solid construction specifically designed to withstand life on the road.

Amp Models:

Inspired by the Eden Traveler, this model is all about clean, funk, and fusion bass tone. It'll give you warm lows and punchy highs.

Inspired by a '68 B-15 Flip Top, this model is a tribute to those clean, fat, bass tones of the late 60's and early 70's. It is the kind of tone you hear on most Motown recordings, as played by the pioneering young bassist James Jamerson.

This model is inspired by the '74 Ampeg SVT which has appeared on innumerable recordings and arena stages worldwide. Now, all the tone of the head and 300-pound behemoth 8x10 cab is available without having to lookup a chiropractor.

Based on a '68 Marshall Super Bass, this model delivers the kind of overdriven bass sounds brought to us by late '60s British rock pioneers like Cream and The Who.

As the name would suggest, this is for the modern rock sound of the late '90s and the new millennium popular in bands like Alice in Chains, Mudvayne, and Rage Against The Machine. Based on a distorted SansAmp PSA-1 into an SVT with a direct clean bass signal mixed in, this model gives you that angry, clear, and punchy aggression that cuts through the mix and takes your sound to DEFCON 1.

Effects models:

This pro LA-2A-style compressor is ideal for helping every bass player - particularly the ones who play with their fingers -- achieve a smooth and consistent signal at any volume.

Envelope filter

Based on a Q-Tron, this envelope filter effect can be heard on tons of major funk and rock tunes.

Based on the EBS OctaBass, this effect produces a single note one octave below the note you're playing to add a powerful new vibe to your sound.

Based on the much loved T.C. Electronic Chorus, this transparent, smooth, and expressive chorus was built for bass, and using it won't reduce your low end. It's an especially beautiful complement for fretless basses.

Sitting at the back of the model knob is this secret weapon that turns LowDown into a '70s classic bass synth. From funk to modern rock, this fully adjustable synth delivers incredible tones while tracking every dynamic move you make.

sweet head

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

i personally have a gk backline 600, but i'm considering upgrading to this. i played this head at a friend's house and was really impressed with the tone, the different channels are great, and really easily programable. it also comes rack ready; no buying kits and what not, just pop it right in there. my only issues with this head are the power switch being a little hard to get to if this is in a rack and the speakron connectors in the back are a bit of an annoyance because you have to buy special cables, but that's a minor issue. GREAT VALUE.

Sometimes it hurts when it gets you too deep

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

Be careful when you turn the deep button on, if it's too loud it will rip you apart. This is an average bass head for the price range, it doesn't have a truly natural bass tone but what can you expect? I'd save up and buy a Mark Bass, those are beastly and you'll never need another bass amp again

Great amp for the money.

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

I have played gigs with this amp for over a year and it's never let me down. You can get alot of great sounds out of this amp and the effects are good. I like the chorus the best. I compared it with my Boss CEB -3 Chorus and the sound was REAL close I mean good enough. This amp gets real loud in a live setting. I'm playing it through a Hartke 8X10XL. You will not have any problem hearing yourself. If your on a budget I would highly recommend this amp. Do yourself a favor and check one out.
