I've played with other delay pedals including, the boss dd-3,dd-6 and giga delay and hands down the DL4 is much better! Apparently I've read some reviews that it breaks easily, well I've had no problem the last 2 years and I bought it used on ebay to a guy that was gigging with it heavily! Thats almost 5 years of heavy abuse, I'd say its pretty reliable. The delays are incredible, those that say they all sound the same well, you need you read and play with it a bit more. You can get U2 sounds, Angels & Airwaves, great lead delays, and I LOVE the auto-volume swell that sounds like a stringed orchastra! The loop sampler function is worth the value of the pedal itself.. I create loops and then just record them raw into garageband to save them for later! I've gotten endless compliments on my unique style that this pedal gives me. GET IT!

I have owned this pedal for about 7 months now. Don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVE this pedal. It produced incredible delays and I love them. However, there is a major problem that I have heard the DL4 commonly has. The problem is electrical issues. I'm on my 2nd electrical problem in the 7 months I have had it. If you do buy this pedal I HIGHLY recommend getting the Guitar Center Pro-coverage with it. I made the mistake of buying the DL4 and not getting the pro coverage and really regret it. The Line 6 warranty is a 1-year parts and labor, and they can be a pain to deal with. AND to get it fixed you have to take it to a place certified to repair the DL4. Guitar Center can't do it. Another reason to get the pro coverage. I hope this helps out many of you in your decision making. Again, it is a great pedal, but the electrical problems suck and I would recommend getting the pro-coverage if you get this pedal.

Just something to consider

By RUEL

from Austin

I got my dl4 used at a pawn shop, great price, bought a line 6 adapter from GC in-store which was kinda cool that they keep that sort of thing in stock in case something breaks, or for back-ups. Let's just say, I don't need or want to try any other delay/looper. It's a popular, some would say essential, piece of equipment, but sadly my unit broke, much to my dismay. One day it just didn't turn on. After some research I discovered this is common to the dl4, with many videos and forum threads confirming. One guy had 4 or 5 dl4's lying around him in his video, all broken, I thought about it, as should you, and I decided to buy another dl4, new, but with the protection plan. Not always, but in this case, I would absolutely take advantage of the accident protection, and if I had the $$ I would do so with two and keep one on stand by. When you play with this thing, it opens you up to a whole new set of possibilities in your playing style and improvisation. I think you'll see how useful of a tool it is and why it's the smarter bet to go new and save yourself the headache, look up videos online, and trust that when you don't have a lot to invest, losing this piece, and having to learn the hard way just isn't worth it, although it initially seems better/cheaper. Hope this helps.

best delay out there!!!

By Doug Tait

from Boston, Massachusetts

this is an amazing pedal. I've only been playing guitar about two years and am just getting into the effects market; this was my first pedal. i know i went against the grain and didnt get something like an overdrive or distortion for my first pedal, which is usually recommended. i aint regrettin it though! this thing is amazing. it will blow you away and you'll find yourself discovering new things everyday with it. it's also kinda cool that the tweak and tweez knobs do something different for each model. i play it through an Orange cr20l 20 watt amp with a mexican made strat. (tip for beginning guitarists: i recommend saving up a little more and getting like an epiphone or mim fender instead of getting a squire or starcaster or something like that for your first guitar. you will enjoy it more than a cheapy guitar.) anyways, back to the pedal. it has a cool looper, although it could be a little longer. maybe like 30 secs. the 3 presets are awesome too. i like the sweep echo model and the analog w/ modulation. ive also found out, if you put it on auto volume echo, and play random notes slowly and bend them, with the swell time all the way up, you get some trippy whale noises. customer service from guitar center was good too. thank you guitar center!

an essential pedal

By RADIENXE BAUTISTA

from Norfolk MA

This is one of the best pedals I've owned. I have two of them with a third on the way! I do a lot of looping and use the delays a lot. If you really aren't familiar with the pedal, buy one anyway, look up Minus the Bear on youtube and you'll understand some of the amazing things this pedal can do, especially if you have at least two of them.

Best Delay on the market

By Spencer Timmons

from Rockford, IL

In my opinion this is definitely the best available delay pedal on the market. I have used and compared both the DL4 and the Boss DD-20. I think there's no comparison because the DL4 trumps it. The DL4 is so much easier to use. Although the DD-20 does have some nice features, it's nowhere near as "Bone-headed simple" to use. The tweez and tweak knobs allow you to set the delay to the exact delay you are looking for. The DL4 doesn't take away from the tone you are sending into it if you are using other pedals. It is a sizeable investment, but if you are willing and able to spend the money I would definitely recommend getting this, especially over the Boss DD-20.

when you dont have time to put on the tech guy hat

By Ellis

from orange connecticut

This pedal is great right out of the box. i didnt have to major in electronics to figure out how to get working with this pedal. what sold me on this pedal was incredible variety of sounds i am able to attain. its a little bulky for my board but i figured for all those different sounds in just one pedal i live with it.

Line 6 DL 4

By Chad

from Bellingham, WA

I bought this pedal after owning a Boss loop delay and a Boomerang loop delay. I like the loop effect for laying down a background line and soloing or embellishing it. I enjoy the echo and delay with a mic and acoustic electric Tacoma C-1 Chief run through an Art tube preamp them the DL4. I originally bought it after seeing Tim Reynolds use one with beyond professional results. I still can't use it like he does though. My only recommendation would be that it come with a video clip link to show some pro setup tips. The unit is very sturdy and the sound is very clean.

Awesome!!

By Aaron

from Eugene, OR

I got one of these about 2 years ago and i would never trade the thing for anything else! its very easy to use and everything is right up front where it should be. no menus to have to go through which with the power that this thing has you would expect to have to deal with. but for the money i think this is a awesome buy! ya you could go with a Eventide that cost almost twice as much! and to me the have a stiff digital sound. while these sound so much more natural. of course you don't get MIDI on this thing but musicians have had to do without it for way longer than we've had it. So why not keep it simple and give you exactly what you need and this is it!!

Amazing Classic Delay Emulation

By Jordan

from Sarnia, ON

The Line 6 DL4 is present on nearly every professional guitarist's pedalboards these days, and for good reason. The DL4 plays home to a nearly endless set of classic and modern delays, that you can 'tweak' and 'tweaze' to your heart's content. From classic digital delay to vintage tape echo, it does it all. Lo-Res, High-Res, Modulated, and Reversed, and beyond. The Loop and Reverse features, while kind of cool, are equally kind of useless, and in my opinion, a bit of a marketing gimmick. Don't let that detract from the value of this pedal, though! You can save up to 3 delay presets, and a tap tempo is always a plus.
