I've played with other delay pedals including, the boss dd-3,dd-6 and giga delay and hands down the DL4 is much better! Apparently I've read some reviews that it breaks easily, well I've had no problem the last 2 years and I bought it used on ebay to a guy that was gigging with it heavily! Thats almost 5 years of heavy abuse, I'd say its pretty reliable. The delays are incredible, those that say they all sound the same well, you need you read and play with it a bit more. You can get U2 sounds, Angels & Airwaves, great lead delays, and I LOVE the auto-volume swell that sounds like a stringed orchastra! The loop sampler function is worth the value of the pedal itself.. I create loops and then just record them raw into garageband to save them for later! I've gotten endless compliments on my unique style that this pedal gives me. GET IT!

I have owned this pedal for about 7 months now. Don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVE this pedal. It produced incredible delays and I love them. However, there is a major problem that I have heard the DL4 commonly has. The problem is electrical issues. I'm on my 2nd electrical problem in the 7 months I have had it. If you do buy this pedal I HIGHLY recommend getting the Guitar Center Pro-coverage with it. I made the mistake of buying the DL4 and not getting the pro coverage and really regret it. The Line 6 warranty is a 1-year parts and labor, and they can be a pain to deal with. AND to get it fixed you have to take it to a place certified to repair the DL4. Guitar Center can't do it. Another reason to get the pro coverage. I hope this helps out many of you in your decision making. Again, it is a great pedal, but the electrical problems suck and I would recommend getting the pro-coverage if you get this pedal.

Great Pedal

By Kurt DeMarra

from Lancaster, PA

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I picked up this pedal not to long ago and quickly fell in love. Anything you could ever want in a delay pedal is all here. The built in loop station lets you play a riff, and then loop another riff over that. Once you record a loop, you can stop it and start it whenever. Also play your loops at half speed and backwards. You can store four presets which you can get to very easily. Turn the repeat all the way up and really start having fun making some crazy feedback sounds.

everyone's got one for a reason

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

Like others before me have already stated, this is simply an essential part of every rig. You wouldn't play without a tuner right? Well, that's kinda how this thing fits in. Great delay(s) and impressive convenient little looper. The thing that is crazy, is that some sounds you can get out of this thing, I wouldn't normally think of as "delay"...small notes suddenly exploding to life, nasty rolls and sweet sweeps. 4.0 on quality because the knobs can get a little loose in their motion...stop reading this...BUY IT!

Covers a full scope of delays

By don't_go_on_me

from Mankato, MN

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Line 6 DL-4 covers all the bases as far as delays are concerned. Everything from slapback shower delays to analog oscilation is here. I found that there were only a few delays that I ever used, but that's just my personal preference. There's something for everyone, no doubt. I bought this mainly for it's versatility...being able to choose between preset delays is something every delay-using musician dreams of. The tap-tempo feature also makes it very easy to adjust on the fly and is a very useful feature. My main interest in this pedal was how true the analog modeling was. Surprisingly, it's not bad. Of course, it's not nearly as warm as a Boss Dm-2, but it does a decent job of giving a warmer tone than a normal digital delay would. The main aspect this pedal lacks however is dependability. Some people hate the dependability of Line 6 pedals, and other people I know have not had a problem. The chasis is plastic as are many of the parts. It does seem a bit fragile and needs more care than a normal stompbox would. I also noticed a very slight volume drop when engaged. Overall, it's a fine pedal with a ton of options. The looper is a fantastic aspect of this pedal and is a lot of fun. Just the dependability, volume drop and lack of true analog tone are it's downfalls.

simply awesome

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

this delay pedal packs so much into it that it is well worth the price tag, and then some. I use this for guitar in a hard rock band and for bass in a variety of settings. The sounds are great and very close to the originals that they are emulating. Of course they will not be exact, but it won't really matter. You won't have the headache associated with alot of the vintage tape delays, etc. The tap function is key to getting the sound to work in time with what you are doing and having 3 user preset sounds is great to just setup and play. My only complaint is that to really understand this pedal you have to carry the manual around, because there are so many settings for each model that it is almost impossible to remember what everything does. That being said, if you just want to turn knobs until you hear something you like without knowing what you are adjusting, well that works too. Out of the dozens of pedals I have owned, this one will always be in my pedal board. Highly recommended

Delayed reaction...

By Xprmental1

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I owned this unit for almost 6 months before I really dug in and played with it. I love it. I play experimental music with a metal, hardcore guitar edge and this modeler is perfect for any occasion. The loop sampler feature is amazing, you can loop a guitar/bass phrase the slow it to half speed, play it backward, or both! Just that feature alone is worth 1/3rd the cost of the pedal itself. The other delay settings are clear as a bell and sound really nice. This is a perfect compliment to synthetic beats layered over with heavily effected guitars and samples. I feel Line 6 should add an LCD backlit screen though, instead of so many knobs. This unit has been around for a while and is still kind of expensive for what it is, also. Minor gripes though, I have never had a problem with Line 6 gear and I own a bunch! If you seek the ultimate delay machine, the DL4 is your next toy! Experimentalists will love it and home recording junkies will rejoice!

The only delay pedal you'll ever need

By Jimlet

from East Bay, CA

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

ALthough I used effects often in the past, I found that many of the sounds were quickly outdated, and not subtle enough to really be useful. After seeing artists like Bruce Cockburn and Even Johansen (Magnet)live, however, I looked into the Line 6 DL-4 Delay Modeler. This pedal accurately models numerous delay pedals, many of which are vintage and outrageously expensive--if you could even find them. The sheer range of delay effects you can dial up are staggering. Before owning this pedal, I never really knew what a delay was capapble of doing. Even though I have numerous delay plug-ins for recording guitar, I often opt to record direct with the DL-4 as it has many styles of delay that outperform the plug-ins. Useful for everything from serious long delays to textures and everything inbetween. You'll instantly love what the DL-4 can do with looping phrases as well--it's been a great way to compose and create in a way I wouldn't have ever thought of before, plus it's a heck of a lot of fun!

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is themost versital delay on the market, hands down. It has sooo many delay models with an infinite amount of variations. It soulnd great no matter how you use it. I know its not an analog, but its pretty close. Yes, its expensive but its worth it, it does so much more than any other delay on the market. Don't compromise for somthing chaeper, you'll be dissappointed. The only thing I've got against it is that my friend's tap tempo button broke, but I think that was his fault. Bottom line, if you want a great delay pedal, you gotta get the DL-4.

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

No rig is complete without one of these pedals. It has so many great delay sounds and makes them all very accessible. It is easy to use and the sound quality is very good. The loop feature really sets it apart from other delay pedals. I have never had a problem with this pedal and I expect to use it for years to come.

Amazing Classic Delay Emulation

By Jordan

from Sarnia, ON

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Line 6 DL4 is present on nearly every professional guitarist's pedalboards these days, and for good reason. The DL4 plays home to a nearly endless set of classic and modern delays, that you can 'tweak' and 'tweaze' to your heart's content. From classic digital delay to vintage tape echo, it does it all. Lo-Res, High-Res, Modulated, and Reversed, and beyond. The Loop and Reverse features, while kind of cool, are equally kind of useless, and in my opinion, a bit of a marketing gimmick. Don't let that detract from the value of this pedal, though! You can save up to 3 delay presets, and a tap tempo is always a plus.

Just something to consider

By RUEL

from Austin

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I got my dl4 used at a pawn shop, great price, bought a line 6 adapter from GC in-store which was kinda cool that they keep that sort of thing in stock in case something breaks, or for back-ups. Let's just say, I don't need or want to try any other delay/looper. It's a popular, some would say essential, piece of equipment, but sadly my unit broke, much to my dismay. One day it just didn't turn on. After some research I discovered this is common to the dl4, with many videos and forum threads confirming. One guy had 4 or 5 dl4's lying around him in his video, all broken, I thought about it, as should you, and I decided to buy another dl4, new, but with the protection plan. Not always, but in this case, I would absolutely take advantage of the accident protection, and if I had the $$ I would do so with two and keep one on stand by. When you play with this thing, it opens you up to a whole new set of possibilities in your playing style and improvisation. I think you'll see how useful of a tool it is and why it's the smarter bet to go new and save yourself the headache, look up videos online, and trust that when you don't have a lot to invest, losing this piece, and having to learn the hard way just isn't worth it, although it initially seems better/cheaper. Hope this helps.

Greatest Musical Toy Ever

By Frylock

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

If you ever find yourself bored, this pedal can keep you entertained for hours on end. The huge variety of different delay effects, almost all of which sound awsome, help add to writing music. The built in loop is by far the best feture. I can't get enough of it. Looping riffs, then looping something over that, then slowing it down, then playing it backwards, theres too many posiblities to not absolutly love this thing. A little bit on the pricy side, but you definatly get your money's worth. By the way, I'm a bass player, not a guitar player, but this thing is still one of the best pieces of equipment I own.

Great Delay!!!! ((delay!!!)) ((delay!!)) ((delay))

By Eric

from Minnesota

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

Talk about a sweet pedal- this is it. There are so many different kinds of delay on this pedal. Take the "Pink Floyd- One Of These Days". The rhythmic delay on the bass is right on this pedal. The Mars Volta is another band who uses the Line 6 DL-4- I'd say they sound pretty good with it. Some of the delays include; ping pong, auto volume, sweep delay, digital delay, and my favorite, reverse. This pedal not only has great delay. It has a built in loop effect; which is amazing. I use it every jam session, or venue- It feels like there are 2 guitarists. Just play this pedal for a bit and your creative side will run crazy! The Line 6 DL-4 is a great pedal.

A GREAT delay pedal that's built like a brick!

By coolwhip

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have used this pedal for just over 3 years now, and I must say I'm impressed. I play a Schecter C1+ through a Fender Hot Rod Deville and a Fender '52 Deluxe, and have played hundreds of gigs with this on my pedalboard. It's got every kind of delay you could ever need, and it sounds far more smooth and creamy than the Boss delays. The controls are very easy to maneuver once you get them down, just read the manual. While this pedal sounds phenomenal, I am a little disappointed with the build quality of the footswitches. Mainly, they work themselves loose after many presses, and the switches fall into the circuitry. I've had this happen on three separate occasions with three of the switches. Make sure to tighten them! Overall, this pedal is built like a tank - no problems save the switches. It sounds AMAZING, and I have used the looping features extensively with acoustic guitar also. A tremendous pedal.

Don't delay

By lovelips102

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

Great pedal. I use it through an fx loop and it barely alters my tone at all. Great warm delays and the loop section is pretty fun as well. I recommend buying the ac power instead of batteries. My only complaint is the stomp buttons are located directly on the chips inside...kinda dangerous but still a great pedal. Oh yea and the loop is kind of inconvienent when playing life but you get used to it.

Good delay

By Swimming Bird

from Washington, DC

Comments about Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Line 6 is a very good delay modeler, but it could be easier to use. Overall it sounds great and has a bunch of useful functions, but the knob reset when switching modes is extraordinarily annoying. This pedal is great for normal use, but I wouldn't try to switch modes mid-song unless you have time for twiddling. Not my thing, but a good pedal nonetheless.
