I bought mine about 3 weeks ago at GC. I am still experimenting with it and learning its features. It is fairly easy to use after getting aquainted with it and a bit of trial and error. The effects and other tools are very good and cover most of the spectrum of sounds you could want for classic rock, blues, country. What impresses me most about this unit is my tone. It can deliver the most awesome, crystal clear, piano-like tone at full volume or using the amp modeling you can get a wide array of classic tones from motown to modern. It has a hefty price tag but it really is a value if you consider what you would outlay for a pre-amp (mono/Biamp w/xover), tuner, noise gate, compressors, distortions, wah, flanger, phase, choruses, synths, vibrato, leslie, reverbs, modeller.

I bought this on my birthday and played it for two days before realizing that I am never going to use it. It has a lot of sounds that don't make sence and do not sound good at all. A lot of the time you can't even tell that it is a bass. I have never used any effects before this so I am a little biased, but I wanted to try it anyways. I may sound kind of negative on it, but all I would say is that some people are going to like the features and versatility that it has, but I personally think that it has a lot of bogous, unnesessary sounds that I would not use my money on.

Toy for Beginners

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

I have fallen for the Line6 fad and bought a flextone half stack for my guitar rig, a line6 variax electric guitar, as well as the bass pod for my bass rig. One thing to note about line 6 is the lack of quality craftmanship. Every single line 6 item I own has fallen apart, lost screws or other hardware, or simply doesnt work at all anymore. I am an active musician but my main instrument is the bass now. I understand if the Bass Pod wears out but the other items just sit in my home practice room. Through years of use they just plain don't work. as far as the sounds go specifically for the bass pod, it is nothing to write home about. they are too fake for me. At first I thought it was the coolest thing in the world but the sounds get old sick. I am going back to a basic Sansamp to clean up my sound. Line 6 stuff is too risky to rely on.

Good for Beginners

By David Phillips

from Temecula, CA

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

I got this a while ago, and it was really cool at first. It has a lot of effects compressed into one thing, and you can really work the whole spectrum. It is compact and versatile. If you don't want to spend money on a lot of pedals, this is the thing for you. If you care about great sound quality, and price is less of a deal, than stay away. This has a lot of effects, but each one is pretty weak. I'm just starting to play more gigs, and mine is getting annoying. Plus, it can be very difficult to arrange certain settings, and I only use maybe an eighth of the programed settings. Overall, I would say that this is good for starting out, but you will want to move on sooner than you think.

solid but slightly over rated

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

When it comes down to it for multiple effects at once this thing is awesome. dependable, quality, versatility; it's all here. great quality when it comes to rich and smooth sound reproduction, even capable of helping achieve some desired but hard to get sounds. However it is difficult to get the right sound all the time; can be trouble-some at times to dial in. Hang in there it will pay off. Also need to play around with it when using active pickups, had to switch to pad settings to keep distortions down. esp b105/mesa 6x10/ampeg svt pro 3

The Bass Player's Multi-Tool

By Evan

from New Jersey

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

This unit contains so much versatility. The majority of the presets are boring but you can get so many sounds out of it. This includes traditional tube amps to really whacked-out synth noises. I run this unit with a loop station. I am extremely pleased (I chose to write this review a couple months after I purchased the unit). Okay, so it doesn't have the true warm analog sounds, but for the price it's an amazing little machine. I suggest anyone planning on investing in this unit to try it out in store first to see if you like the control design and the sounds you can coax out of it. My only problem with it is that the volume levels for the presets can vary intensely, so you have to watch your loudness when changing, but that's only for the synths. Highly Recommended =]

Handy, no super handy

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

I got it as a preamp for home recording and it did not fail. it sounds great. i use the amp modeling like crazy, they sound pretty authentic. the pleasant surprise was playing out one night and the back-line amp sucked, luckily i brought the pedal and was able to compensate for frequencies the back-line amp couldn't get. i've been playing for 30 years and i was never so impressed.

Great Sound At The Control of Your Feet

By 6StringBass

from Williamsport, PA

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

I have played through several effects pedals like the Bass PODxt Live, but nothing compares. The Fuzz tones are just saucy and greasy enough that a warm tone comes through instead of a "guitar effect applied to bass". There are several presets that have a great tones that when I recorded with it just using the USB connection to my computer, I ended up with a great sounding bass tone without fussing with it a bit post-EQ. Excellent product that I will keep around for a very long time.

Good buy

By Woojamon

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

I recieved this unit as a Christmas present even though it wasn't what I had asked for. However, after playing around with it and figuring it out I really kind of like the thing. So far I have been able to get every sound out of it that I've been looking for. It has a lot of features and many effects to choose from. Like someone previously said, though, you can't "line up" two stomp boxes or delay/reverb boxes. It's midi-compatible so I'm not sure if that can take care of that stuff or not since I don't have midi. Overall I would not say this product is the end-all of pedalboards that one needs, but it can definitely suit a wide range of music styles, is easy and intuitive to use, the effects it does have sound good (and it has alot), and it is built solid for what it should be used for (I wouldn't jump on it but it can definitely take the weight and I'm a big guy). I would say that, unless you're pro, you don't really need to buy anything else. This unit won't rock your world, but you will be very pleasantly surprised at it's versatility and what it can do for your sound! If you are looking for some pedals to buy and not quite sure where to start, buy this first. Most likely it will have the sound you're looking for, and becoming familiar with the effects will help guide your decision when deciding which pedals to buy (the unit can accomodate other pedals, too). But chances are you will find everything you need right here!

Play a lot before you Buy!

By John

from Reno, NV

Comments about Line 6 Bass POD XT Live:

I have a live 6 Variax 700 bass and I had heard all the hype about the Pox Live so I went and played it twice before purchasing it. I used it for about a week and 1 main gig and I am taking it back. There is such a volume differece between presets even when you crank the volume on them it's hard to use in performance setting. It also froze up on my and I would have to turn it off because I lost all control. It's not like the videos online, you can't just layer a bunch of pedals like in real life, you are limited to 1 stop box, 1 modulation, one delay/reverb and an amp choice. It's not all that its cracked up to be. I am a far better bass player without it than with it, I play for my college tuition (scholarship) and at Church and this rig doesn't cut it. It's a highquality structure but low value from what's inside. Make sure you play it alot before you buy it!
