I've tried modeling systems from Fender, Roland, Peavy and Line 6. I've used their onboard as well as their computer interfaces to edit tones. The AMPLIFI amp is easily the most intuitive way to get the tone that you are looking for. Searching for tones that have already been uploaded is easy. Fine-tuning the tones is not only easy, but is intuitive using the app for ipad and iphone. My worry when purchasing this amp was that it was a toy that would deliver a bunch of tones that although easy to find would sound like modeled tones. I was relieved when after unboxing this amp, it took minutes to set up and find a tone that is closer to the tone that my favorite guitarist uses than any that I have ever found. It sounds absolutely amazing! I had previously spent over a thousand dollars on a tube amp and pedals in order to dial in a tone that was not as good as the one that I had within 15 minutes of unpacking the amplifi out of the box. I play a variety of rock, classic rock, alternative and blues, and I have found tones for every genre that really blow my mind. I found a John Mayer tone that is just amazing and 5 minutes later dialed in the best old school metallica tone that I have ever played with. Most of the advertisement for this amp seems to talk about using it as a bluetooth speaker, or about how good the app is. Those are great features, but my favorite thing about this amp is how much more intuitive it is and how much better it sounds than any modeling amp that I have ever tried. I have NEVER been as pleased and surprised by any musical instrument/amp purchase as I am about this one. I'm not a gigging musician, so I can not vouch for how this thing does live. (I personally would worry about how this amp might take a beating physically and internally from moving it around.) But for a practicing musician, this is the best purchase that I can remember making.
At 56 years old I thought this might be a little high tech for me to enjoy all it can do, but to my surprise it is very easy to generate great tones. And as a audio system for mp3 tunes it is awesome. Many of the videos you see, show off its ability to create very high gain tones, but I am very please at its ability to model the clean tones of your favorite tube amp as well. In short, I love this amp.
First, if you don't have and Ipad or Iphone skip this amp. You wont be able to get its full functionality and it will suck. With that being said there is a lot to like about this amp. While its not perfect I really love it. Blutooth has been improved with an update and I haven't had and disconnection issues. The tones are fantastic and it is very hard to discern a true tube amp with some of the modeling this amp does. Unless you are a lifelong musician with decades under your belt you wont be able to tell. With that said this amp isn't geared for that crowd, its for the practicing musician. This is where the amp really shines. I love how I can play along with my favorite songs all through the same amp. Its awesome for practicing timing, one of the keys to playing. The AUX in is also great. You can hook an ipod right up and use that too. I plug in my computer so when I play Rocksmith I can blast it! The cons I see are the lack of an effects loop. This really isn't a killer but it would have been nice. Also little to no manual doesn't help. The ability to move around all the Amps/effects through the entire tone process would be nice, maybe they will allow it in an update. The ability to push a cabinet would have been great too. For what it is and does this amp is great. If you are a practicing musician and like to play along with your songs you will appreciate this amp. If you are a giging musician with years of EXP under your belt you will probably hate this amp. I enjoy it and it serves me well. I cant wait for future updates to see whats added to its functionality.
This is an awesome Amp from Line 6. It can work wonders when paired up with an iOS device, it has many effects ranging from certain types of Delays, Reverbs, to distortion pedals, not to mention it has heads and cabinets that resemble many of the great brands out in the market today. It has an awesome tone when you CRANK it up! The five speaker system gives you a nice crisp heavy tone when on an Overdrive setting. The cleans on it sound great especially when you add those effects. My only question is the longterm of this amp, only time will tell, but it's a great amp overall with the bluetooth technology that also allows you to jam with your favorite tracks. I recommend this amp to whoever wants an awesome guitar tone for a fair price. Theirs many more options this amp includes, It's like a playground for guitarist!
The aux input on my Fender Mustang broke recently, so I went looking for a new practice amp. I wasn?t expecting to find this. First of all, it has a very stylish design and does not look out of place in your living room. The integration between the amp and the iPad app is seamless. It takes a while to master setting the levels on the Master Volume LED ring, Guitar Level LED ring, iPad, and guitar to produce the best sound for each individual tone. However, after you have that figured out you?ll be very impressed with all the options available to you. If your tube snob friends give you hard time about buying a modeling amp, and you know how to play the solo to Free Bird, dial-in the ?Saturday Night Special? tone and let her rip! It?s a transcendent experience. Fender ended up replacing my Mustang, their 5 year warranty is great. There?s no comparison when it comes to sound quality and ease of use though. This is truly a groundbreaking achievement in design and tone. The product engineers at Line 6 deserve a lot of credit.
The music sounds great, it's best as a substitute for a docking station, EXCEPT that 90% of the iTunes library on your device will not play. Manual is a two-page explanation of the amps controls only. No input on the app which is used to control ALL the features. The tone matching is a joke. Heavy metal songs and clean tones come up....same tones repeat on songs. There is a USB "to be used later" that no one know what is for. Going on the Line6 Forums is a dead end, people are just guessing "try doing this." I was tod to buy iMatch, and spent the $24 and guess what 90% of the songs ON my IOS device (iPad or iPhone) will not play with AMPLIF app, they play in iTunes, but not AMPLIFI. Now, the guitar sound is digital. I own a POD HD500X and it sounds MUCH better. Some of the pedals see like wimpy versions, the controls don't do much, and there is no computer editor, it must all be done on you phone or iPad. I dont' know if its the midrange, but it seems like there is way too much mids, the bass and treble are overpowering, resulting in a nasal boxy tone. When you play along with music the controls are too touchy, your guitar is either too loud or can't be heard, one click on the volume makes a huge difference. Hard to get the right volume. It's claim to fame is you can play your entire library and I have found it plays 10% of your library. Seems like the product was rushed through production and to the customer without enough testing and QC. I will probably take mine back before the 30 days return policy is up. Unless, they come up with an update, majority of your iTunes will not be able to be played - rending it as a weak attempt.
First, the manual is two small pages - a quickstart on the amp only. Nothing about the app and how it works. Several songs do not copy over. They play in iTunes on your device, but will not play (greyed out) on the AMPLIFI app. As far as the tone matching, it pulls up tones, many are the same tones, and so far from the tone of the song. A metal song in Drop C and it matched it with "Clean Vibrato." Line6 CS is non-existent, the forums are users guessing "try this," and "oh, sorry, I don't have the amp, just guessing." It does sound nice for playing music, but you can't play all your music, unless you use iTunes. Needs a handle, hard to move, it's irritating that the Bluetooth disconnects a lot, the headphone jack is in the middle on the back of the cab, and the wireless range is not very far.
another great innovative product by line 6. this amp is designed primarily for practice and jamming. the amp sounds on a scale of 1to10, (10 being a very good tube amp), I give it a 6.5. 6.5 in my book is good for a modeling amp. as a mp3 player it is very good. it's nice to have the tone matching for the songs on your ipad/phone to give a good base tone. the tone matching also lets have a window into basic tone design through the editor. not sure yet if I would use it live, if I did I imagine I would use with my line six fbv mkII board and have 4 basic tone set, (ie crunch, clean ,drive, lead). it's not mentioned in the literature but with the line six fbv mkII you can turn effects on and off and tune the guitar and tap modulation rates. I gave it only 4.5 because I would have liked some banks to store more than 4 tones and a looper that would store on a flash at the usb port. all in all a great product can't wait to see where the industry brings this concept to.
I'm a Line6 fan and have many of their products to include the DT25 amplifier, JTV guitars and HD Pod500. I was intrigued by the new Amplifi 150 primarily as a practice amp and it's bluetooth speaker capabilities. The Amplifi 150 performs as advertised and I'm happy with my purchase. I'm hoping that more "cloud" settings will be available as the Amplifi becomes more popular and users post more songs to the cloud. The only other constructive comment is that the Amplifi is not compatible with Line6 JTV guitars to utilize it's numerous modeling and alternated tunings. Overall, I'm very pleased.
