  • This Really Should be Rated a Five Star Amp

As reviewed by Amateur Enthusiast on 7/5/2011

The majority of negative responses from reviewers revolve around the instrument being more suited for metal. One reviewer even indicated Marshall had a cleaner tone than this Line 6. I'm far from being the typical shred metal kind of guy; I typically play blues and classic rock--a greater tendency for cleaner settings. I've owned a Marshal before; all the Marshal was good for was shredding. But, I'll stop from focusing on the reviews with which I disagree; I'll focus on what I love about the Spider IV. There is nothing more satisfying than capturing the tone, pitch feel of a song just exactly as you would like it heard instead of the way it was originally played. The versatility of features on this Amp allow for multiple unique interpretations of a song. I mean you can literally get lost in exploring the interpretive feel of a song for hours. The beauty is once you have captured it just exactly as you like it, you can save it. Higher end Spider IV's allow for more saving features but just being able to save four distinct tones to play for friends and clubs is enough for me for now. I would chalk up the negative experiences to either inexperience with amps or inexperience with guitars. I play with a simple Squire. On this Spider IV I've produced tones that are heavenly, to tones that are somber, to tones that are foreboding, back to tones that are joyous. However, I can do this because of the Squire's switch from neck, middle to bridge. I'm not really certain if the same can be said for an Ibanez or Epiphone. My concluding recommendation is if you play with a Fender, give this Amp a try and see how it adjusts to the different pick-up settings. If you play with anything but a Fender, try a Fender with three pick-up and a switch and judge it based on that experience.

  • COMPARE OTHER MODELING AMPS TO THIS ONE AND THE PRICE WOW

As reviewed by davesintexas on 4/27/2011

I have a pro stack of Marshalls in storage along with the old style pedals etc. I wanted a new practice amp for my office insied my home. So, going from a small Marshall MG 15 to a practice amp say 75-120 would be just too loud to really use. So, after reading the PROs and CONs of the Marshalls 30s and the Fenders 30s and the VOX 30s and the Orange 30s I also compared the Modeling AMPs of the others that have modeling amps and I chose the Line 6 30w. Its plenty loud and it is also clear on all settings that I have used so far. Low Master-Mid Master-High Master the sounds were clean. I didn't MASH it up to its top settings since a 20x15 room there is no need. What was realy great about this amp are the numerous tones that are available to use. Ive actually used some of the old amps that this one copies and it has been a long time but those tones do sound really close. And that is what is fun about a Modeling AMP! You get your pedals and effects and Overall Sounds that would cost you another $500 dollars for the pedals and Man, who knows how much more for all those old amps? Only complaint that I have and that I have read is that it doesn't have the same SOUND like a Tube AMP produces. I woul say thats about half correct. Yes, it is Solid State. But, for a practice amp I would not want to BLOW $1200 dollars!!!! And, for what it is A PRACTICE AMP it does a great job. It provides an amp that you can practice your playing and allows you to store tones, mixes that you might want to use on a real setup. Anyone who tries to make such a small amp into a performance amp is just plain crazy to begin with and should be introduced to Marshall Stacks.
