Overview

This LightSnake 1/4" to USB instrument cable is basically a "sound card on a cable" that lets you record audio from your guitar or other instrument directly onto your computer. The LightSnake offers true plug-n-play operation: simply connect the 1/4" mono plug of the 10 ft LightSnake cable to your instrument and then connect the USB end to one of your computer's USB ports. No additional drivers are needed for Win 98 SE/Win ME/Win 2000/Win XP/Win Vista, or Mac OS9/OS X.

An embedded 16-bit analog-to-digital converter with audio signal boost ensures extremely low audio loss and a 48kHz sampling rate provides you with high audio quality while recording. The HSDL (Host Side Data Loss) Noise Reduction function prevents any unwanted noise when converting the audio signal to digital format and saving to your computer. SoundTech's patented "Live when Lit" cable ends glow when connected properly and flash when sound is being transmitted.

The 10' LightSnake includes a DVD with 30-day trial versions of all of Sony Media Software titles, including Sound Forge, Acid, Vegas, etc. This addition makes the cable a complete solution right out of the box. Mac users can use GarageBand or any other Mac-compatible recording software.

I just bought this for use with garageband and am quite happy with it. The previous review complains about unwanted distortion but the signal from my bass to my macbook is very clear with no unwanted noise. Its cheaper then those big boxes and is much more portable. Also, the green led's look pretty cool. Great product if you want record from your instrument to computer and the mic isnt cuttin it for you this is a great choice.

Bought this for a fairly good price of 26.00 because of using a $10.00 e certificate. The only good thing about it was the price. The splitter DID NOT WORK. I could not even get the 1/4 mono plug to even respond electrically. This device is supposed to allow the user to interface with a PC...Well maybe it did show a green light was on however I was not getting ANY RESPONSE. A complete waste of my time.. I will be returning it tomorrow.

Decent quality and decent price

By Daniel

from Spring, Texas

I bought this so I could start recording on my macbook. So far it hasn't given me any troubles. It may seem like a lot for a guitar cable, but comported to other methods and options for connecting your guitar to your computer it's a decent price. There's a little gain though, I haven't found a full on clean, also there's a lag when recording so if you're recording different guitars it won't be synced, so watch out for that. It's not professional quality but hey for $50 you're not going to find much that is. I've even used pedals with it. It's decent quality for the average joe, and doesn't break the bank.

Good Buy

By Carbenson

from Charlotte, NC

Hey , it does what it says. It works great I've had it for 6 months with no trouble. No , its not good enuf sound quality to make a professional recording, but I don't think anyone with realistic expectations should be looking for that. I'm using mine with a Keyboard, that has a great deal of spectral variations, and it does well with that. If you need a studio, then lookelsewhere, If you want to pipe your chops into a computer, this will do it great!

Garbage

By Daniel Young

from Kenmore, WA

I bought this today to demo songs with Apple's Garageband. After doing some tracking through an mbox I decided I wanted something a little more portable - this looked like a great solution. Relatively easy to use, but why use it if it sounds like garbage? To be more specific, there is un-wanted static, that I never have experienced before. I do NOT recommend this cable. Very disappointed.

Worst Product I have EVER Bought!

By Clayton

from Chesterfield, Missouri

I gave this one star, but this product does not even deserve it. I bought the lightsnake to plug my ibanez js1000 guitar into my macbook to use with garage band. There was constent distortion, and I could not get a single clean tone that even resembled that of a guitar. I have no idea how anyone else that wrote good reviews got it to sound decent because I personally had zero luck with it. I do not suggest this for anyone

Works well if you're not jumpy

By Jamie Tahirkheli

from Fremont, ca

It works just how it should for my MacBook on garageband, just make sure you plug it in before starting garage band, but if you plug it in after you start garageband, just switch to a different track and it will start to work.

Great Buy

This product is great. I don't see why there are so many complaints about how flawed this item is. It's easy to get set up. and face it, the lights look cool

the lighsnake

By Hippie112392

from Pittsfield, MA

the lightsnake has several pros and cons. it is a good, cheap way to record yorself. however it will not take to being plugged into any effects. therefore you have to put up with an autowah even if you already have a wah wah pedal. it also adds a distortion to a les paul on a clean channel. most annoying other than that though, it is a good buy
