Lexicon has done it again

By Mr. Better Off Without You

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I bought this unit after having trouble with several other similiar priced items. This thing is a true plug n play unit. It takes almost no work at all to get up and running. It comes with a limited version of Cubase which I have had fun with thus far. If you are on a tight budget but really want to learn how to write and record on the computer, this lil sucker is a must.

Good Product

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

First of all I recommend that you know the capabilities of your computer before you buy any recording software or interface. I had to make a few upgrades to get this to work but I am producing some decent quality stuff now. I have had to reinstall the Lambda a couple of times because it disappears from my installed hardware. Once after unplugging from the USB port and another for unknown reasons. Beyond that, for the money I recommend it. Along with the Cubase LE that came with it I'm doing things I could never do with the old Fostex 4 track.

Awesome response

By John Patitucci

from El Paso

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I bought the Lambda at the beginning of the year for my PC with XP on it, and it worked great. Then I got a Laptop with Vista and it wouldn't work that great. I couldn't figure out why it made a horrible sound when it played back what I recorded. I thought I was out of luck. I switched the compatability mode on it and still no luck. Finally just recently I went to the Lexicon website lexiconpro.com, and behold, there was an updated driver for the Lambda. It eliminated the noise I was getting, and Improved the quality of the sound as well. I truly thank Lexicon for looking out for their customers and upgrading their software. It truly was a life saver.

Great recording device if you have a Mac...perfectly wonderful

By John

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

Okay, look...if you have a PC I'm terribly sorry. I got the software that comes with this thing to work...but it was rather messy. Great when it ran, but just spotty at best in performance. That being said, I hooked this thing up to my MacBook and ran it into GarageBand and it is terrific. Not only that, but the Mac OS allows you to create multiple inputs and join them into one huge aggregate device...so it is possible to daisy chain these things (or any additional input device) into this monster virtual device so that you can capture 4, 6, 8 or more simultaneous inputs while recording. My friends and I use this to record live and we capture all instruments including the click and sequence simultaneously while playing...then we just go back to GarageBand and mix and edit later. Niiiiice. I have Logic Express and it works great there as well. Great input device and cheap for being able to capture 4 tracks simultaneously. Add the stereo inputs on the MacBook and you have 6 tracks you can be recording at once. Buy this unit, hook it to your Mac, go to Applications and open the Audio MIDI Setup application and then create your aggregate device. After that you'll simply have to plug in the Lexicon and go to Preferences in GarageBand and select the Aggregate Device for your input and you're done. I couldn't be happier.

It has everything you need and nothing you dont. Just plug it in, install the drivers and your ready. For the price it is the best, you cant beat it unless you're looking for a firewire interface. Too many problems

By David Marshall

from Nashville, TN

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I bought this unit based on several good reviews I read but have been extremely disappointed. I've had the unit for a year now and cannot get the installation software to load on my computer. The PC I'm using exceeds all the minimum requirements, but no luck. In troubleshooting the unit, I've read of some others who had the same problem. I have no problem loading other software, etc. I can't find help anywhere. Guitar Center was gracious enough to give me another installation disk, but it wouldn't load either. As with most computer-based recording software, the aggravation just isn't worth it. I'll stick with my digital workstation and use this thing as an expensive paperweight to remind me to never again venture into the world of computer-based recording. I've been burned every time.

Good product at a good price

By John Cheyney

from Irving, Texas

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

First of all, I want to review the Lexicon Lambda entirely separately from the Cubase LE software. I bought this to record acoustic guitar. I have had good success recording with the undersaddle pickup and a microphone. The interface is easy to understand and use. The device installed easily on a standard Dell desktop. You have gain knobs to control the input levels, a knob to control the ratio of live sound to playback, and a couple of push buttons to control the playback. There is a headphone jack and one instrument jack on the front to make simple recording easy. If I had to make one complaint it is that since the device is more vertical than horizontal it is susceptible to moving as you move the cords. I am not as impressed with the Cubase LE 4. The initial version that came with the interface had problems crashing to the desktop and required you to restart the drivers every time you logged in. They have an update that makes it much more stable. However, it doesn't seem very intuitive to me. The documentation might be OK for someone with some experience, but I don't think it spends enough time on the basics. I have had to read the manual several times, and finally bought another book that has been more helpful. I am currently looking to change DAW applications but will definitely keep the Lambda.

Good harware-outdated software

By Mike Northcraft

from Lees Summit MO

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

Lambda interface is user friendly and has sufficient inputs and outputs for home recording. DVD ROM installed quickly and without any problems. However, product activation is a convulted mess of a procedure. When all was said and done, I was registered, activated and ready to roll. Nothing would record because the drivers for the interface are not up to date. Had to uninstall and reinstall after contacing Lexicon for the newest download. Now that the good support people at Lexicon have guided me thru the process, everything is up and running well.

Have To Read Alot Of Online Instructions To Learn How To Work Properly

By Storiesonwalls

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

My band and i bought this package about 5 months ago. When we first got it we didnt know anything about recording. So it sat for about a month not getting used. But once we got it working the sound quality was terrible. So for our next song we messed with the eq's alot and it seemed better but still not tht sound we wer looking for. And we still havent been able to get tht. But if your a beginning band this wouldnt be a bad package b/c cubase le (the software it comes with) isnt to shabby.

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I bought this product a few months ago. I am truly disappointed with this desktop studio. After re-installing this product on to my computer several times, and calling tech support, it didnt work. Tech support recommend that I purchase additional equipment for my computer. This unit was intended to work with windows program, it doesnt. I have yet to get this desktop studio to function properly.

Great for the money.

By Sean

from Hartford, Connecticut

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I got this unit just about a year ago when I started production / recording. This is the only interface I own and right now as a beginner I don't see a need for anything else. A mixer may be nice, but if you're brand new to recording the Lembda is for you. The unit is built very nicely as well. It's fallen down a carpeted flight of stairs and nothing was wrong.

Not Vista Compatible

By VistaSucks

from Illinois

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

Do not purchase this product if you are running Windows Vista 64x. It will not install the drivers you need, which will not allow you to record. Manuals and online help are not helpful and do not address this situation at all. I had to scour online forums and message boards to find out about the driver problem. Be sure to know your computer specs before purchasing audio interfaces, as most do not work for Vista 64x.

Nice little box!

By adam

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I've been quite pleased with this unit. I did, unfortunately have an issue with mine about 9 months ago though. It would not record audio anymore. I did all the usual troubleshooting to no avail. It was a couple months old at the time, but the folks at GC were nice enough to let me swap it for another one. The replacement has been holding strong since. I have read some reviews that bash it for its functionality and sound. I put that off as user error and lack of knowledge. I have had great sound with nothing more than an SM-57 and a SansAmp Bass Driver/DI. The one thing to always remember: mic placement is the key. Instead of EQ, experiment with the mic to find that "sweet spot". Adjust the amp or insturment until it sounds just right. Spend a little money and get a preamp and maybe a compressor. If all of these things are set just right, it will lend to a great home recording. I highly recommend this unit for anyone who is working with a mix of live and computer based instruments. Not ideal for doing drums, but works great for a guitar, bass and some soft/hard synths.

buy something else!!!

By Vertebrae

from Hamilton, NJ

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

ive owned this product for at least 3 years and it has given me nothing but problems. horrible latency, and i have a very good computer. i run everything into a mackie mixer and mixer outputs into the XLRs on the lamda. it only records on the left so i have to stereoize everything i record.and it occasionally creates a very low squeeling sound. cheap chassis. i moved the lamda from on desk to another and i must have tweeked something so i had to apply a light pressure on the top of the device to get it to not sound like 8-bit. i know what you might be thinking but i take care of my gear. and i know how to install and use it. bottom line... it sucks.

Decent for professionals, Great for beginners..

By Ty Leggat

from Atlanta, Ga

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I've been using this interface for about 3 years now(recording just about everyday with it) and its been a pretty good interface overall. The only complaint I have is you have to unplug and plug back in every once in a while because it wont pick up what your recording after its been plugged in for a while. BUT while its picking up it works great. I recommend this product for any home studio, but not professional studios.
