The drivers that come with the Lexicon Lambda unit produced a ticking sound. I downloaded drivers from ASIO4ALL and it sounds beautiful. Intermittent errors when I connect to my PC (it does not recognize the hardware and wants me to reinstall software), but I can work through it. I had simiilar issues with M-Audio products.

I bought this interface a while back and it reads that it is supposed to be a 24 bit recording interface, but evrytime I try to do a 24 bit recording, it buzzes a screeches. It has somethingt to do with asio drivers on Windows. So I got a MAC, and it does not even read Lambda as a 24 bit piece of equipment, only 16bit. I recommend this for the price, the jacks, and phantom power

Great little DAW!!!!

By SEAN DOHERTY

from Memphis, TN

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I have owned the Lexicon Lambda for about 2 years or so. First thing everyone out there needs to know, check the lexicon site for updated USB drivers that are compatible with all versions of Windows. Remember, this product first came out before Vista, W7 or W8. Now, Cubase LE...it's not meant for band recording or mastering, simply 1 voice and 1 instrument recording. It would be wise to upgrade your recording software if you want more capabilities. For me, it worked fine. I am able to record a bassline and sing backing vocals, export it to an mp3 and give the file to my drummer so he can lay down treads to it. It is a little tedious doing it that way, but what in home recording doesn't get tedious??? I was using Cakewalk for a while with it and that works great too. Going to buy Cubase 7 Artist this winter 2014 and go from there. Just remember that if you are using a mic like a XML990, you need to turn on phantom power. Other than this, it is a GREAT little DAW, the software was a quickie throw in...LOL! Buy it and enjoy simple home recording!

A solid piece of work.

By GERALD DISHON

from DSM, IA

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

Received this a few weeks ago. Overall, very pleased; it supports both 44.1 and 48k, with 16 and 24 bit depths. Some have complained of scratchy pots, but I have not seen any evidence of this yet. Sound is good using a Shure 57 for VO work, balance selection between ins and outs is useful, and onboard phantom power is a plus. My only two complaints are that the box weighs so little that I am concerned about it falling over if I ever get a bunch of cables in the back, and the 64-bit Windows drivers do not work with ASIO, forcing me to use an alternative. A good addition to a small project studio or portable rig.

Good harware-outdated software

By Mike Northcraft

from Lees Summit MO

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

Lambda interface is user friendly and has sufficient inputs and outputs for home recording. DVD ROM installed quickly and without any problems. However, product activation is a convulted mess of a procedure. When all was said and done, I was registered, activated and ready to roll. Nothing would record because the drivers for the interface are not up to date. Had to uninstall and reinstall after contacing Lexicon for the newest download. Now that the good support people at Lexicon have guided me thru the process, everything is up and running well.

Decent for professionals, Great for beginners..

By Ty Leggat

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I've been using this interface for about 3 years now(recording just about everyday with it) and its been a pretty good interface overall. The only complaint I have is you have to unplug and plug back in every once in a while because it wont pick up what your recording after its been plugged in for a while. BUT while its picking up it works great. I recommend this product for any home studio, but not professional studios.

Great recording device if you have a Mac...perfectly wonderful

By John

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

Okay, look...if you have a PC I'm terribly sorry. I got the software that comes with this thing to work...but it was rather messy. Great when it ran, but just spotty at best in performance. That being said, I hooked this thing up to my MacBook and ran it into GarageBand and it is terrific. Not only that, but the Mac OS allows you to create multiple inputs and join them into one huge aggregate device...so it is possible to daisy chain these things (or any additional input device) into this monster virtual device so that you can capture 4, 6, 8 or more simultaneous inputs while recording. My friends and I use this to record live and we capture all instruments including the click and sequence simultaneously while playing...then we just go back to GarageBand and mix and edit later. Niiiiice. I have Logic Express and it works great there as well. Great input device and cheap for being able to capture 4 tracks simultaneously. Add the stereo inputs on the MacBook and you have 6 tracks you can be recording at once. Buy this unit, hook it to your Mac, go to Applications and open the Audio MIDI Setup application and then create your aggregate device. After that you'll simply have to plug in the Lexicon and go to Preferences in GarageBand and select the Aggregate Device for your input and you're done. I couldn't be happier.

buy something else!!!

By Vertebrae

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

ive owned this product for at least 3 years and it has given me nothing but problems. horrible latency, and i have a very good computer. i run everything into a mackie mixer and mixer outputs into the XLRs on the lamda. it only records on the left so i have to stereoize everything i record.and it occasionally creates a very low squeeling sound. cheap chassis. i moved the lamda from on desk to another and i must have tweeked something so i had to apply a light pressure on the top of the device to get it to not sound like 8-bit. i know what you might be thinking but i take care of my gear. and i know how to install and use it. bottom line... it sucks.

Nice little box!

By adam

from westchester, il

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I've been quite pleased with this unit. I did, unfortunately have an issue with mine about 9 months ago though. It would not record audio anymore. I did all the usual troubleshooting to no avail. It was a couple months old at the time, but the folks at GC were nice enough to let me swap it for another one. The replacement has been holding strong since. I have read some reviews that bash it for its functionality and sound. I put that off as user error and lack of knowledge. I have had great sound with nothing more than an SM-57 and a SansAmp Bass Driver/DI. The one thing to always remember: mic placement is the key. Instead of EQ, experiment with the mic to find that "sweet spot". Adjust the amp or insturment until it sounds just right. Spend a little money and get a preamp and maybe a compressor. If all of these things are set just right, it will lend to a great home recording. I highly recommend this unit for anyone who is working with a mix of live and computer based instruments. Not ideal for doing drums, but works great for a guitar, bass and some soft/hard synths.

Not Vista Compatible

By VistaSucks

from Illinois

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

Do not purchase this product if you are running Windows Vista 64x. It will not install the drivers you need, which will not allow you to record. Manuals and online help are not helpful and do not address this situation at all. I had to scour online forums and message boards to find out about the driver problem. Be sure to know your computer specs before purchasing audio interfaces, as most do not work for Vista 64x.

Great for the money.

By Sean

from Hartford, Connecticut

Comments about Lexicon Lambda USB Desktop Studio:

I got this unit just about a year ago when I started production / recording. This is the only interface I own and right now as a beginner I don't see a need for anything else. A mixer may be nice, but if you're brand new to recording the Lembda is for you. The unit is built very nicely as well. It's fallen down a carpeted flight of stairs and nothing was wrong.
