I just purchased a Lexicon Alpha USB Audio Interface and I am very impressed with the sound quality and ease of use. I'm using a P4, 3.2GHz PC with 1GB of RAM and a 40GH harddrive. I just installed the software and plugged the interface in and started recording. I have not run into any latency or sound clipping issues. Sounds very good for a Sennheiser E835 mic into the XLR input. Recorded from my line out on my Marshall JCM 2000 into the Instrument Input on the front of the unit, and from a single mic in the middle of the room during a full rehersal. The Cubase software it comes with is user friendly and the reverb plug in sounds pretty good for being digital. This unit also acts as my main sound card. Great for laying down tracks for other band members to hear or for recording a live practice session for review. Might want to go with something better if you plan on selling your music. Could have used another XLR input, but for the price this unit and it's features are very good.

I purchased one of these about a year ago, and have regretted it ever since. When in 48 KHz mode, it randomly emits an obnoxiously loud white noise, making this mode completely unusable. Of course, it took me about two months to discover that the alpha was actually my problem. Since then, I have consistently used it at 44.1 KHz, which eliminated the obnoxious sounds. However, latency is a major issue - I have to make my buffer size extremely large to avoid getting the system overload error, something I never get when using the cheap interface that came with my Behringer MIDI controller. On top of those issues, I ALWAYS have some amount of ground hum, even if I manually ground the alpha to the device I'm using. Highly disappointed.

Comments about Lexicon Alpha USB Desktop Recording Studio:

This interface is good. I don't understand why ppl have such noise issues. I think that have to do more with the electricity(ground) , cables , even your computer in the place you planing to use it. Ive never had any issues with mine , sounds pretty clear and clean for a cheap product. Im very satisfied with the time i was using it. I got into a scarlett 2i2 not too long ago and that one has gave me more issues than other usb audio int. i had. Something that makes me give it 5 stars its only the stereo direct monitoring feature, which is not any special feature from it but is better when recording pianos or stereo sources. It doesn't ( i think ) have any preamps like everybody says on their product specs. But either way it sounds just good.

      • Bundled Cubase LE5 software is worthless!

      Best Uses

      • Amateur Recording

Comments about Lexicon Alpha USB Desktop Recording Studio:

Spent half a day trying to get the Cubase LE5 license to be accepted online so the software would work, only to learn that this version of Cubase is obsolete and is no longer supported and can't be upgraded. So... the Cubase that comes bundled with the Lenova Alpha is worthless. You should know that you will need other recording software before you buy this!!!!!

My 10 year old computer did not have enough of a processor for it. But, It gives me reason to upgrade that finally, ;-)
