The Best Reed I've used in my career

By Kenny Gorelick

from Los Angelas

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

I just started using these reeds and at first I didn't like them but then start playing with it more and learned that it suited me perfectly. They vibrate really easily making the blowing of the instrument very easy. I would recommend these for anyone and love the prices of this site and this deal diffidently is worth it. They also respond very quickly and work great on altissimo notes.

My 4 strength Alto Sax Legere Reed

By Luke Carr

from Luverne, AL

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

I love my legere reed. I've only used 2 of them since I got my sax 2 years ago, and I used about 3 rico reeds before I tried to find something else. Very nice except I have a problem hitting the really low notes like low Bb. That's probably due to my "cheap" instrument and strong reed. I can hit altissimo notes easily with it, though. High notes from low D and up are very easy to play.

Nice Reeds

By Ken Baucum

from Tulsa, Oklahoma

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

I have been using these reeds for about four years now. They are so continuosly consistent and long lasting that I have a hard time getting motivated to work with cane reeds anymore.

Nice Reed

By Steve

from Lino Lakes, MN

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

These reeds blow easy and sound very similar to natural reeds. Very consistant and last for a year or more of weekly playing. Can hit highest and lowest notes with ease.

Legere Reeds are the Best - For Tenor

By Craig35

Pros

  • Tone And Durability

Cons

  • Stiffness And Feel

Best Uses

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

I'm the biggest fan of Legere reeds for my tenor and use nothing but them. I challenge folks to tell the difference in tone from cane reeds and with the differences in thicknesses there is a number for everyone. However, I have tried just about all the thicknesses in the alto range and can not get them to work for me. I've even had conversations with the folks at Legere and we can't seem to determine what this issue is? It could be me and the folks at Legere have been great about allowing me to change out for tenors. I actually use the tenors on my alto and they work great so I guess in the end I have a solution in one reed.

    Would Like Feedback

    By Craig Miller

    from Lititz, PA

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

I've been using the Legere reeds for Tenor for about a year and wouldn't trade them for anything. So I recently got a Alto and this was the first thing I bought for it. I find these provide a great deal of resistance and are much harder to blow over alto cane reeds? The kicker is if I use a Tenor Legere on the Alto the resistance is about where I would expect it. I haven't been playing all that long and this is my first go at alto - any thoughts. Would like to make these work. Guess I can save money and just use tenors on all the horns.

    Reed Too Soft

    By Steve Dingle

    from mesa, az

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

Hi..I rarely write reviews, but I wanted to let folks know to order a strength which is quite a bit harder than you might think. I did research, and ordered a #2, as I play a #2 Vandoren blue.It is far too soft, and a 2.25 or a 2.5 would have been the way to go. Sadly, a waste of 20 bucks......

Comments about Legere Reeds Alto Saxophone Reed:

Do not rely upon the strength chart on the Legere webpage. While it may be a guideline, these reeds aren't cheap and Guitar Center does not accept returns! I learned the hard way. However, the company Legere has fantastic customer service and did send me two more reeds. I generally play a Hemke 2.5 reed and found that even the 2.14 Legere was too stiff for my likes. Hoping it will soften up so I can get some use out of my investment.
