With its solid monkey pod body, Lanikai's SMP-T tenor ukulele has incredible projection with an exotic and enviable appearance. Gold-plated Grover tuning machines ensure long hours of stress-free playing.
The tenor body produces a clear ukulele tone, with a bit more projection than the standard soprano body. It's ideal for on-stage performanceâwhether rhythmic strumming, or working out some inspired melodies; the projection and clarity of this tenor uke is significant.
Unadorned by synthetic enhancements, this series captures the pure essence and beauty of the natural world. This ukulele features a solid top, back, and sides, slotted headstock, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, maple and rosewood skunk stripe and an ovangkol neck. A custom wide bone nut was used to increase the string spacing, making these ukuleles more comfortable for guitarists who are expanding their sonic palette with the ukulele.
With its easy playability, and the included instruction booklet written by renowned ukulele instructor Mary Lou Dempler, you will be playing in a matter of minutes. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. The ukulele is an addicting instrument that can and should be taken everywhere. If you can play one ukulele you can play them all.
The Lanikai SMP-T tenor ukulele is strung with Aquila Nylgut strings.

Monkey Pod is very similar to KOA , unless your a purist or a Uke snob the Monkey Pod will be that workhorse you have been looking for . No frills but great solid hardware , sound and tone. For your money this is currently the best bang for your buck in the Ukulele market.
I decided to buy one of these, sight unseen and only heard on the internet. Well, I'm ultra pleased with what I received. The Lanikai Monkey Pod Tenor is a work of art. Not cheesily done in abalone, but with real wood bindings and rosette inlay. Plus the Monkey Pod grain is gorgeous and is in the same wood family as Hawaiian Koa, so it sounds great to boot. The slotted headstock with quality Grover tuners adds to its classy design. Another plus for me (a converted guitar player), is the wider neck and string spacing. The string spacing is similar to a guitar on this one, so finding room for my fingers is a cinch. If you're in the market for an all solid wood ukulele, give this one a test drive.
