Overview

The Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele is one of their most popular and affordable ukes. Its sweet sound has a pedigree of choice woods and quality construction. The classic ukulele design and beautiful tonewood are improved with the attention to detail that has made Lanikai a preferred name in ukuleles.

The LU22CGC is just a bit bigger than a soprano ukulele, and smaller than a tenor. This is particularly helpful for performers with larger fingers, and the slightly larger body emits a louder and deeper tone.

The uke is solidly crafted with a mahogany wood top, back, sides and neck for well balanced tone. The rosewood bridge and fretboard add clarity to the notes, and die-cast tuners keep you in tune from song to song.

With gold hardware and a soft satin finish, the Lanikai LU22CGC ukulele will surely turn some heads. You won't believe what kind of beautiful sounds this dynamic and versatile little island is capable of.

I have been playing guitar for 25 years, and I have experience building and setting up guitars. I recently became interested in ukuleles when I grabbed a $25 one during the black Friday sale. It was enough to pique my interest, and I went back to find something a little nicer. The Mitchells and Cordobas were also $99, and looked really fancy with some nicer looking wood, abalone inlays and what nots. At this price range I didn't trust all the ornamental stuff. What impressed me about this uke is that it is simple, basic, and has sealed tuners. To support my theory, the version of this uke that has all the fancy stuff the others had, cost more than twice as much. I didn't really intend to get a concert size uke, and didn't realize I did until I got home. Hey, I know guitars not ukuleles. (I just recently learned to spell ukulele correct lol) With that said, I really like the concert size. It is much louder and fuller sounding, the longer fretboard makes it easier to fret chords, and the longer scale puts more tension on the strings, which gives it a more vibrant tone, and I think it makes it easier to strum without accidentaly digging your thumb in. This uke comes with a set of top of the line, Made In Italy, Aquila Nygut strings installed. Which is ironic, because I bought a set of the same strings with it that I was going to put on first thing. Since I had the extra set of strings I installed them on the $25 uke, and jeez, what a difference they make. So I believe much of the bright responsive tone comes from the the strings. The uke itself has a warm rich tone, and I suspect with lesser strings it may be a bit dark sounding, but with the included strings, the tone is nicely balanced. That is my one complaint is that it actually sounds a little too good. At times when plucking individual notes, the tone almost reminds me of a fine classical guitar. Makes me feel as if I should be sitting up and playing properly instead of laying in bed and fiddling around as I've been doing. In other words, it feels like less of a novelty and more like a "real" instrument. While we're on the negative side of things, the first one I recieved started to develop a buzzing A string. About the same time something started rattling around inside of the tuner. The important thing here is Guitar Center took care of me even though I lost the receipt, and the uke that I recieved in exchange actually has nicer looking wood, so I'm satisfied. The saddle on both ukes had a sharp edge left over from the mold, which tears up the bottom of the strings. I'd recommend cleaning the molding line off the top with a piece of 400 grit sand paper. Overall, I'd say it is a great instrument for the price.

I use this as my practice uke every night. The sound is pretty good, but definitely lacks range. Some similar notes you can't tell apart like my other uke, so it sounds like I'm playing the same note from time to time (which ruins the song). The third string never stays in tune....after ONE song....every time! Overall it's a decent uke, not sure if it's just a faulty uke or what, but I'd give it 3/5 right now.

sweet sound

By ric

from ny ny

Comments about Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele:

Do not confuse with the other, slightly cheaper, non GC (GC=Guitar Center), concert ukes from Lanikai. I bought this for myself and a the other for my daughter. Mine sounds like sweet meadows of dawn, hers not quite. It took a while to settle but now it seldom loses tune and my one year old bangs it quite a bit without major problems.

Quality instrument, hands-down best pick.

By Rev. Chauncey Grizzly

from Newport, KY

Comments about Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele:

I was fortunate to have walked into GC to see a wall of Ukes, only 30 minutes after learning "Tonight You Belong To Me," (as seen in the film "The Jerk"). I was only playing with the idea to buy one at first, but I let fate intervene. I left GC empty handed, wanting to do more research. This uke, although not the highest rated at this price level or the glitziest, out-performed even the $269.00 ukes when I returned later. Don't let the Mitchell reviews trip you up, they are more style, less stability. None of the Mitchells would hold a tune for longer than a song, however the Lanikai I purchased is now at home, still in perfect tune from when I tuned it at the store hours ago. This is a stable, resonating uke and likely the best middle-road uke that GC carries.

Bang for the buck!

By Paloma

from Nebraska

Comments about Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele:

I walked into Guitar Center anticipating buying a more expensive instrument, but a clerk told me to check out this uke because it was on sale. I am a band teacher that is starting a ukulele club at my school and wanted a solid instrument to play on/teach myself. This uke has a great tone (partly thanks to the nice Aquila Nylgut strings that come on the instrument) and I appreciate the solid tuning mechanism. I got this uke when it was 40% off (a steal!) but would have no problem recommending it at full price. My best friend has been thinking about taking up the instrument so I bought her one as well.

High Quality Ukulele

By Dan Schulz

from Plainfield, Illinois

Comments about Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele:

It's been a few months since I went to buy this ukulele and I have been completely satisfied with it. When I first went into the store I had intended to go with a cheaper option IF I even bought a ukulele. I strummed on all the ukuleles a bit and found this one had a far better sound than the shinier mitchell ukuleles. So I went ahead with buying this ukulele and so far I have no regrets. I play this ukulele on a regular basis and it wasn't too difficult to pick up and learn a song. At first I would have to re-tune the ukulele after about an hour but now I can go about a week without needing to tune. On another note(heh. music pun.) the aesthetics look far better in person than in the pictures. The wood has a deeper color than what is displayed and the gold finish on the pegs is simply beautiful while the white stripes on the edges pop out at you. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a new instrument to learn or even their first instrument to learn. This is a simple instrument to learn, get started, and be satisfied with. But the joy is in mastering it and making progress with newer harder songs.

AMAZING Uke!

By Tim

from PA

Comments about Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele:

I've had this ukulele for a long time now (probably 2 years?) and I am still so happy with it. It has amazing tone quality and for some reason (at least for mine) it's great at staying in tune, so I hardly have to tune it. I've traveled all over the place with this uke (including 6 day car ride during which it was buried in luggage) in a soft cushioned travel bag and it's still in perfect condition; still looks brand new. I have three other ukuleles and guitars but I still prefer this over the rest. I wouldn't trade this uke for anything! GREAT for the price!!

Very nice ukulele!

By Federico

from Marathon, FL

Comments about Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele:

I'm very happy with my purchase and I recommend this ukulele for everyone! Hesitate no more, it's a nice choice for beginners. At first it didn't sound well, but I guess it was because of the new strings or because of the bridge not being well adjusted. But after a few days of use sounds perfect.

Its okay

By Ana

from atlanta, fl

Comments about Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele:

This ukulele is okay. Its not the best...but its not the worst. Its not very durable. I ordered a ukulele for my son's 10th birthday and received it smashed. We went to the store and bought another one. The ukulele comes out of tune very quickly. Its very light though.
