  • Love that island feel

As reviewed by Andrew on 7/29/2011

I was looking for my first ukulele after having played guitar for a long time and I decided on this tenor ukulele. I chose a tenor because I'm a big guy and I felt silly holding the soprano and concert. The tones that this ukulele gets are killer and I love the way it looks with the white bracing on the dark wood. A wonderful ukulele

  • First Ukulele for a Beginner

As reviewed by John D on 8/17/2011

I was apprehensive buying an instrument on-line that I hadn't actually heard or seen. My fears were unfounded. The finish is excellent. The back of the fretboard is smooth and the frets are nicely finished so that you don't feel them when you slide your hand up and down the neck. I comes with premium strings so no need to change them unless you want a different tuning. I had to tune a few times a day for the first few days as the strings stretched, but it has held tune for over a week now. The tone is very resonant and rich. I think the setup needs a very minor amount of tweaking. The E string seems to be very slightly more raised than the others and the tone on it isn't quite as crisp. However, I'm no expert and at my level of playing it is so not an issue. I would recommend this as a first serious ukulele and the price is so reasonable it's hard to go wrong.

  • Pleasantly Surprised!

As reviewed by Mike on 2/4/2010

I bought this ukulele a week ago to try out the sounds, and thus far, I have no regrets. It's one of the cheapest tenor ukes out there, but holds its own in tone quality and resonance without a doubt. The ukulele does come with high-G tuning Nylgut strings, which I'm happy to say exceeded all expectations. However, I had expected to enjoy the low-G far more, so I replaced the top string after a few days - let me just say that low-G tenor tuning is one of the most beautiful things you can play! I recommend this ukulele for anyone who's trying to switch from guitar to ukulele, and doesn't have much experience, because the ukulele is easy to learn (but hard to master). I gave it a four star rating because the actual ukulele is so slippery, I have a hard time holding it up. Sometimes I just play entire songs and picking with my thumb alone, which solves all my problems, but I wish there was paint/more friction on it, so it was more easily held.
