Overview

The Laney Ironheart IRT120H is a thoroughly modern tube head capable of full on metal tones but offers you far more than other metal oriented amps. It's loaded with four premium TAD 6L6 loaded tubes. The feature packed preamp is laid out logically and features three distinct channels (Clean, Rhythm and Lead). Each channel features passive 3-band EQ with push pull options for Deep, mid shift and treble shift which allows you to dial in the exact tone you are after. The master section features an overall Dynamics control which allows you to vary the interaction of the amp the drivers. Depending on the volume, an overall Tone control, a Laney custom Digital Reverb and a Watts feature allow you to dial the out put of the amp back to a whisper without destroying your tone.

One of the coolest features of the IRT120H is a switchable Pre-Boost facility which functions just like kicking in your favorite boost pedal in front of your amp. This gives your playing more dynamics and feel. The rear panel of the unit features everything you need to connect your outboard gear, a variable level FX loop, a variety of extension speaker sockets and the supplied FS4-IRT footswitch connection socket. You'll also find the switch that gives you the ability to change the output tubes from the factory should you like. Finished in tough black basket weave Tolex with matching front fret and brooding red glow, it looks as good as it sounds.

Comments about Laney IRT120H 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I spent 3 months actually studying and searching for this amp till i finally found it and examined it thoroughly. Its absolutely on point. Thats why all the pros use it. Its extremely heavy toned and then its versitile to the point where you could play blues jazz or any genre with it also. If you know how to tone and tighten then look into this amp. Just be sure your ready to have it sound heavy when you turn the gain up. Its one of those amps where, when you dime the gain channel out. It doesnt sound muddy. Amazing job laney!!!

Comments about Laney IRT120H 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

when you purchase this or any Laney product you have to buy the Fane loaded cabinets for them
or they do not respond the way they should the speakers are designed specifically for those amps
to the best and most efficient response from the amp

Comments about Laney IRT120H 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Ok so after all of the reviews and demos I seen, I took a chance on buying the IRT120. It's a nice amp, very cool LED function. However, for some reason I couldn't get away from the thin sound. even when I turned the bass up and back down on the mids a little the amps lacked the "oomph" and gain saturation I was looking for. Great for rock/country blues, etc. But I expected a little more for an amp that was geared towards metal. The gain saturation and thickness seemed to be lacking. There were only small changed I heard when I adjusted the EQ or used the EQ shift. I ended up exchanging this for a 5150 III which I like better. I honestly Am surprised that Killswitch is using these. The IRT is a good amp, but just not for the metal/hard rock I play. MusiciansFriend Was great about making an exchange which is awesome!

Comments about Laney IRT120H 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I picked up this head recently and was very surprised with it actually. I own a Mesa Dual Rec, Orange Rockerverb, and a Vox AC50 and they all do their own things very well. I was looking for a reasonably priced backup head with 3 channels and gave the Laney a try. First off, you need to run any tube head through a good cabinet w/good speakers/drivers (Marshall 1960AV, Mesa, Orange, etc...). With that out of the way, this head is extremely versatile. The clean channel shines with lots of headroom. Although it shares the same EQ as the rhythm channel, I didn't have any issues dialing in both (use the tone knob on the guitar if needed as well). The rhythm channel can go from AC/DC to Stoner Rock to Deep thick metal. The lead channel can do all of the above as well, but really shines for newer metal, dropped tunings, and metal core. Or if you're more of a hard/heavy rock player, then it can serve solely for leads (cuts through really well). The pre-boost is okay, but I don't recommend going above 3 or 4 on it max (use an OD pedal if you want more). Where the amp really impressed me is with the dynamics, tone, and watts functions. All three are critical in shaping the sound you want to hear. If you change the settings on your EQs, you must change the DTW settings as well. The amps sounds best at full wattage, but still sounds great with the channel volumes set low. However, as with any tube amp, it really shines at full wattage and when you push the channel volumes past 4 (11 o'clock). Lastly, in terms of the footswitch...it's easy to use. The clean and rhythm share the same button, but when it's green it's clean, when it's not green it's rhythm. Yes, I'd prefer a separate button, but even the village idiot can figure out how to work the pedal.

Comments about Laney IRT120H 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm a metal musician. I wanted a more powerful sound. I found this amp at Guitar Center. I played it through a Marshall 1960 cab.Sounded pretty good. I risked it and got a Dime Cab. Together sounds wicked very heavy. You want a metal amp? This amp does a good job.

Comments about Laney IRT120H 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've had this amp a couple weeks now and this thing is great it has a wide range to get just about any tone you want not mention a simple turn if the watt dial can take this thing from full stage power to a bedroom jam without losing any of its push.

I believe I will have this amp for a very long time
