Like somebody else said, don't order sight unseen

By Jason Piatt

from Avon CO

I was comparing this guitar to the Taylor and Martin. When you look at it, it seems very well built, maybe a couple rougher edges than the ones that cost twice as much but good quality materials and build. I picked one up and it sounded really good, but it had a fret issue on the 1st fret, 1st string that was so bad the string wouldn't even ring. Other than that, I though it sounded as good as the Taylor, and better than the Martin. I found another one in another store, and this one just sounded like complete garbage. No tonality, sounded like a cigar box. I wouldn't have paid $50 for it. The third time was the charm, as I found one that has great sound, spot-on intonation (better than some of the more expensive ones), great action, and I got it on clearance to boot. Very happy customer, but make sure you play before you buy. The Taylor and Martin seem to be more consistent from guitar to guitar in terms of sound. The Taylor sounds beautiful, it really sings, but I thought it was almost too shimmery for a guitar this size. The Martin sounded consistently decent, but for $300 it needs to be better than decent. The Laguna was juuuusstt right, full depth of tone without being too bright. Hum a D into the sound hole and it sings back to you!

Great Travel Guitar

By Harris Wales

from Homewood, Alabama

I just picked up this guitar not more than an hour ago. I got home and started playing this immediately. It's a great-sounding guitar for a great price. Not only is it 3/4 scale, it's also a solid top balanced guitar. Great intermediate/expert guitar.

Very good value for the $ but be picky when choosing your unit

By Krill

from Iowa

Saw this guitar online, bought it at my local Guitar Center. Needed a "real" guitar for an 8 year old girl. This guitar is everything it promises, but it pays to inspect the instrument in person. We tried many other guitars including Baby Taylors and Mini Martins and a bunch of other plywood-topped units at GC. I felt this guitar offered a lot of bang for the buck. However, the display unit's bridge was either not glued down properly, or was pulling up on the corners, as a piece of thin paper could be slid under each corner about 3/4 to 1 inch. I requested to see any backstock and they had one unit in a box. The boxed unit's bridge was fine, but the fret end were very sharp and were in bad need of rounding. On the plus side, the boxed unit was noticeably louder and clearer in tone, perhaps due to fresh strings. On the downside the soundboard was not as attractive as the defective display unit whose tightly grained soundboard appeared to be very good quality. I bought the boxed unit and brought it home and spent a half hour rounding the fret ends. This requires specialized fret files, so again, while this is not a problem for myself, maybe you have no experience with fretwork and would need to resort to the added expense of a guitar technician to smooth out this instrument's rough spots. In which case you might have been better off buying the more expensive Baby Taylor or whatever. My daughter likes the look of the Laguna Little Brat much better than the Baby Taylor, in part due to the Laguna's abalone inlay. I like it because it is resonant and musical, unlike so many plywood boxes being passed-off as beginner's instruments (and the added benefit is that if she ever decides to quit lessons I'll have a nice little travel guitar to use!)

Great Solid 3/4 Guitar - Can't beat the price

By GuitarBuyer

from NC

Bought this for my 7 yr old beginner. I wanted a solid quality guitar... not a toy one. One that he would be proud to have even as he got older. It looks and sounds great! I'm inclined to play on it too. Doesn't come with gig bag or neck strap button... but I'll forgo them for a great quality guitar at this price. Would definitely buy again and recommend.

road warrior

By DaveN

from Columbus, Ohio

I previously tried a Washburn travel guitar, but it never balanced comfortably in my lap due to the small body. I have been using the Laguna on business trips for about 6 months and it is great for practice and winding down in the hotel. The neck feels nearly like my regular guitar at home and the tone is not bad. I take it to Europe in a soft travel bag with no problems. Great buy for the price.

Fun to play

By Fangenator

from NY

I was at the store and went between this and the small Martin and Taylor guitars. It seemed like you really had to strum hard to get the Martin to sound good (granted the strings looked a little crusty). I really couldn't justify the price of the Taylor. This Laguna seems to combine the neck joint of the Martin with the bigger body of the Taylor, and is pretty easy to play. The one problem I had with this guitar was getting the bridge pins to stay in while changing strings.

Small Guitars are the Yaz

By Pancake Pete

from Framingham, MA

I like small guitars. They are easier to hold in your lap. The fret board is the same size as a full size guitar, but the body is more manageable. I tried out something like five guitars at the store before I chose this one, and I've had it a couple of years. It has quickly become by favorite guitar, since you don't have to plug it in, and its a great size. I liked it better than the Martin and Taylor that cost more. The Martin is made of fiberboard or plastic. The Laguna is made of real wood with a bowed body, and nicer details than my full size. It plays nicer than the small Taylor. Both the Taylor and the Martin seem like afterthoughts to their full size guitars, while this is better designed. I highly recommend this guitar. It's well made with nice details. You will not regret buying one.

Great value

By Martmania

from Des Moines, IA

Of the 3/4 guitars, this Brat is sweet. First off, the company is environmentally sensitive in its packaging. This guitar is a Samsung with the laguna label. It looks great, but better yet is the feel and sound. The OEM strings are fine. The sound is rich and full. It is really easy and really fun to play! I thought the Martin and Taylor 3/4s had a better action and better sound, but not $100 better. This guitar, dollar for dollar, is the real deal and is a steal.
