  • Great Guitar at a Great Price

As reviewed by Rich K on 2/18/2010

This guitar had all the features I was looking for in my price range but there wasn't much customer feedback when I made my purchase so I hope others can benefit from this. Guitar looks fantastic - the sunburst with brushed chrome hardware and overall design are just beautiful. Neck - very comfortable, one of the best I've ever played. It has a nicely aged and broken in feel to it. The maple fingerboard had some birdseye in it which made it look more attractive to me. Tuners - laguna locking tuners which work as they should. Bridge - Wilkinson tremolo which feels really smooth. However this isn't a guitar where you can do divebombing vibrato stuff and still be in tune, even with locking tuners but for me it's an improvement over stock Fender type systems. Pickups - not bad. The single coils sound like single coils although a little muddy. Bridge humbucker sounds generic but is very good. Some may want to swap out for some hotter pickups but I find them good enough for my taste. Bottom Line - glad I bought this guitar. I felt I got a bargain for all the features and would recommend buying it. Have a professional set up though. The Wilkinson seems to work and sound better with .010 gauge strings vs. the .009s it came with. Great guitar for the warm jazz sounds to the shreddy metal sounds I like. Looks great and once properly set-up, it's very comfortable to play.

  • Best Budget Guitar

As reviewed by John Grimsley on 12/4/2011

Fantastic Instrument ~ great sustain and very open "breathy" clean tones. The Alnico Pickups are a perfect match for the guitar and sound great ~ no need to upgrade to Duncans or Dimarzios. The Wilkerson Tremolo & Sperzel Locking Tuners work great with the Graphite Nut to keep the guitar in tune. I did remove the strings from the string trees and with the straight pull they glide through the nut smoothly. I only use the Trem for vibrato and not for heavy pitch bends. The Ash Body coupled with the Maple on Maple Neck is a very nice sounding combination with great sustain and warmth. All in all it smokes the $1,000+ Warmoth Custom build it replaced, and I really liked that guitar a lot.

  • Awesome

As reviewed by Jerry on 8/3/2011

This LE300 is a perfect upgrade from a squier bullet or similar lower cost guitar. The hardware is top notch. The tuners stay in tune and turn smooth. The body seems to be one solid piece. The neck has satin finish and feels very smooth. The fret ends are perfect, no need to file them. I also like the flatter neck, I find it easier to play on. The volume and tone knobs and pickup switch are great. The strings the guitar came with are usable. One thing must be done before playing the guitar and that is to raise the bridge off the body of the guitar because it rest on it and gives aweful sound. All you do is remove the back cover and unscrew two screws holding the claw. The bridge should be parallel with the body. Then the guitar will play nicely. The guitar also comes with one extra spring, and four different sized allen wrenches and also the tremolo bar that drops into the metal socket on the guitar and is locked in with a set screw. The guitar also has good strap buttons that should hold the shoulder strap in. No manual comes with the guitar but one can be found on laguna website. I only use the clean channel and I think my fender starcaster's pickups are little bit better sounding but it's very close. From now on, this laguna is going to be played while my starcaster rest in the corner. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this guitar so far and it looks well build to last a long time.
