After looking and trying a couple of other pickups from Fishman and others this pickup seem to do the trick. I looked past the no warranty papers, how bad the box looks and tried it and it sounds good, it is particularly good for installing in instruments with a small sound hole. My instrument has a 3 inch diameter hole and it fit without having to drill or do anything. As far as fit it is small, and it did not stick above the frets of my instrument, which was another problem with the other pickups I tried. The cable comes out through the hole so I routed it in such a way that it would be out of the way. A small piece of tape hidden out of sight will do the trick. If you don't like the tape idea Shadow makes a clip for their pickups with double sided tape on the back that looks more professional if that's what you are looking for. Another good thing about this pickup is that it stays where you install it, unlike others that you have to stick it with a piece of a gum like putty on the surface of the instrument. After adjusting my amp the sound was crisp and like I wanted. I am very satisfied with my purchase and the guys at the Columbus Ohio store treated me pretty good.
I got one of these when my on board electronics went out on my guitar. i do thing there are worse pick ups out there but there are much more that are better. i did like it better than the dean markley single coil, but it still didn't deliver what i needed. if you play nothing but leads and need something with a little more meat its OK, or if you are looking to imitate a very vintage jazz guitar tone it might work. but if you just strum it sound pretty harsh. sounds more like a cheap electric guitar than an acoustic. i took it back to guitar center and purchased the LR Baggs M1a. its a little more money but worth it.
I bought this pickup for my jumbo acoustic so I could record and use my effects board. I wanted an inexpensive passive acoustic pickup. This seemed perfect, Lace makes good pickups and it was on sale for a great price. When I took it out of the box the CD with product and warranty information was not included. I looked past that and instaled it. The cork padding on the clamps that hold the pickup in place is thin. There is also no space between the clamps and tightening screws, so placement and tightening on the sound hole is delicate. Other wise instalation is really easy and the cable from the pickup is very well placed so that it does not interfer with strings. I needed to turn the normal, pre and post gain on my amp all the way up to hear any sound and that was still muted and fuzzy. I then ran the pickup into my effects board and turned the master volume all the way up on it as well to hear the guitar at a normal volume. I would imagine this pickup would be fine with a 100 watt amp. I returned the pickup the next day and got a Fishman NEO-D Humbucking pickup.
Just got this today, to record with m-audio on my computer. I have all my volumes turned up all the way and my guitar still sounds the quietist. I havent tried it with an amp. but with recording don't waste your money. I'm going to return this today. So mad!!
Ive had this for awhile using my Fender Acoustic Guitar but have to say that the connected chord does get in the way, and the sound is a little muffled....but other than that if you are looking for a low cost decent acoustic guitar pick up this would be great!
