The radical Lace Alumitone guitar pickups have less resistance and high output with clear, big frequency response in a completely noise-free passive design. Constructed with aluminum rather than copper, they have a current driven design as opposed to conventional voltage-based pickups.

The aluminum water jet cut exoskeleton is matted with a micro-winding using 90% less copper wire than traditional designs for an extremely lightweight and efficient pickup. Sonically, this gives these guitar pickups more volume, more bass, and more mids with nice, clear, smooth high frequency response that cuts.

Alumitone pickups normally require a slight pickguard modification, but now you can order a cool pickguard preloaded with 3 of these awesome guitar pickups - 2 single-coil and 1 humbucker!

Poor quality components...noisy, thin, lifeless humbucker

By keith connors

Comments about Lace Alumitone Pre-Loaded Pickguard S/S/H:

Let me start by saying this is based solely on the product. Musicians Friend has always gone above and beyond my expectations, and this was no exception. On to the review.... I was really excited about this, as I do a lot of computer recording, and mainly play through guitar processors instead of amps. I bought this in hopes to reduce/eliminate the A/C noise while maintaining most of my original tone. I installed this on a mexi strat HSS. The first one received had some light scratches on the pickups, and I could see some excess solder on the volume pot which leads be to believe it was already installed and returned. It also did not come with a jack as illustrated, so soldering is required. I went ahead and installed it anyway. Both single coils worked as advertised... very rich full tone and no noise. The volume and tone pots were pretty noisy for new, but I could live with that. The real problem came when I switched to the "humbucker". The bottom end dropped out completely, and the volume was about half of the single coils. What's worse, was there was more A/C hum than my OEM humbucker had! I also had a lot of static noise, which I attribute to the flimsy ground wire provided. (At one point, while testing through an amp I picked up a radio station loud and clear). I was able to eliminate that noise by adding a second ground from the pot to the back spring plate, but it didn t help with anything else. I could not get any bass response even with the pickup raised so close to the strings I could see them being pulled down by the magnets! I chalked this up to being a defective unit, so I returned it to M.F. in exchange for a new one. Unfortunately, the scenario was the same, except this time the selector switch was also bad. The humbucker and mid pickup out of phase position was exactly the same as the humbucker position. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed. If I were to make any recommendations, it would be to avoid the pre-wired pick guard due to sub par components. It is possible I received 2 defective units, but if the humbucker was working properly, it was the worst pickup I have ever heard. I would consider putting in one or two single coil alumitones for the noiseless, enhanced sound it produces, but that's about it. I also agree with the previous reviews that warn that the single coil tone is very different than a standard pickup. If you are looking for a radical new sound, that's fine. If you are looking for a more classic sound, stick with standard noiseless pickups. Hope this helps.

ITS OK?????

Comments about Lace Alumitone Pre-Loaded Pickguard S/S/H:

i gave it 3 stars because of 2 reasons... 1. they only use 1 .022mf tone cap for BOTH tone controls.. has NO tonal range whatsoever... i fixed it by using 2 separate .033mf ORANGE DROPS in its place.. now it has better than decent tone control.. 2. it seems to be a little chimmey with its tone... its like it has some chorus at all times.. these were the CONS to this product.. PROS... built very well and everything is well soldered.. has good bass and mid punch.. not to much shrill on the treble but with harmonics you can get shrill if you want too... i installed this into a brand new MIGHTY MITE quilt maple body using a MIM strat neck and trem system off of a 60's reissue road worn strat available at GC... the maple gives it some good growl... if you buy this go with the O.D. tone control caps it will make a big difference in tone

Comments about Lace Alumitone Pre-Loaded Pickguard S/S/H:

I am absolutly satisfied with these Alumitone pick ups. They are way more then I expected. The tones are very clear, crisp, and clean. No hum what so ever. I have had these for about 4 months now and I can not believe the difference. When compared with the Fender stock, stratocaster pups. You will not be dissapionted with these pick ups. Way to go Don Lace.

pretty darn cool

Comments about Lace Alumitone Pre-Loaded Pickguard S/S/H:

Truly beautiful to look at these pickups are absolutely noise free with very clear tone. All positions sound great. The neck spot is very good for jangly chording, while the 4 position (the key to stratophile)is really amazing. It has extra power compared to normal strat but still plenty of cluck. The guard is gorgeous,I picked the white perloid and put it on a vintage white!! Didn't know strats could be so elegant. Installation easy...just two solder connections (make sure you have room for a humbucker...if not you'll need a router) Pricey perhaps but well worth it!

Very Nice

Comments about Lace Alumitone Pre-Loaded Pickguard S/S/H:

I install this on a Mex Strat Deluxe with vintage hardware and noiseless pickups. It was difficult to find my tone with the stock pickups. Nobody I know was familar with the Alumitone pickups, so this purchase was a gamble. First I want to tell ya, the tone is very nice. I get real smooth lows and nice screaming highs with very little effort. I,m playing thru a Fender Super Champ XD tube amp and a Boss tube overdrive pedal. My tone is a cross between SRV and Robin Trower and I am very happy with my sound using these pickups. I also use a Digitech RP250 modeling processor for my home practice time. These pickups make that thing sound awesome which is saying alot. Second thing I want to say is these pickups are VERY quiet, almost noise gate quiet. I plug staight into my amp crank it up. Base on 8, treble on 7, voiceing on 2 (fender Baseman setting), volume on 7, and gain on 4. I get very low noise, I mean unbeleivable low noise. The neck and middle pickups give me a very smoothand fat tone, much smoother than fender stock. The humbucker at the bridge screams nicely. I could'nt be happier with thses pick-ups. The output from these is a little lower than the fender pickups. So you have crank up the amp volume a notch or two, but with the sweet tones I get, this is no problem at all. I did have to cut the lead wires the the guitar input plug because the plug on a Fender is a seperate cutout hole. No problem, just cut the wires, feed them thru the hole and wirenut them back together. Everything else was completely ready to go. It took maybe 5 minutes to install this thing, very easy. I'm definatley going to keep these and re-install them when I upgrade my guitars. If you choose to take a chance on these pickups, you won't be disappointed.
