The Sensor Red - World Class Tone. Lace has built these world famous patented pickups since 1985. Used exclusively by Fender until 1996, these pickups have the same specifications with the same great tone. Red Lace Sensor pickups are designed to duplicate an early Fender single coil pickup.
Crisp top end and bell-like tone, the Lace Sensor Red utilizes the latest technology to provide excellent tone for today's players.

The Lace Sensor Red single coil pickup has a unique radiant Field Barrier system that surrounds both the coil and magnets, reducing annoying 60-cycle hum. The patented Lace Micro Combs replace traditional bobbins, yielding a wider tonal range and better string balance than traditional pickups.

Unlike ordinary pickups, it generates 36 separate magnetic "sensing" fields that, in the areas where they contact the string, "read" the strings' vibration. (Regular pickups for the bridge position only generate anywhere from 4 to 12 fields).

The Lace Sensor Red guitar pickup also has Radiant Field Barriers: metal slides that frame the inner core of the Sensors and perform two functions. The first is to shield the Sensor from the outside noise and 60-cycle hum. The second is to produce broader, yet more concentrated, umbrellas of sensing field than standard magnetic pickups.

Less Noise, More Harmonics
As compared to standard guitar pickups, the Lace pickup reads a greater physical area of the string, while picking up less outside interference. This makes the signal-to-noise ratio nothing short of phenomenal for a single coil system. Also, a wider range of harmonic content is read by the Sensor, delivering a more complex tonal response.

Increased Sustain, Truer Pitch
Since it operates so efficiently, Lace Sensors can utilize much lower energy magnets than ordinary pickups, and this in turn brings about a whole new realm of properties. In regular pickups, the magnetic fields are so strong they physically dampen, or drag on, the strings' vibration, reducing sustain and actually changing the pitch. But in the Lace Sensor Red, string dampening is virtually nonexistent. This means your sustain is increased dramatically while the string holds its true pitch for the duration of the note.

  • Good enough.

As reviewed by Andy on 4/2/2011

It sounds good but still not as great as a normal size humbucker. I would suggest maybe looking at something else. The good feature is that it doesn't have magnet pull towards the strings so you can set the pick up height as close as you want. The sound is great for high gain but cleans are pretty bad and muddy. It is a decent substitute with out rerouting your single coil guitar though.

  • Lace Sensor Red!!

As reviewed by The Metal Guy on 5/5/2011

first off, i have worked with about 10 different models of guitars, many (many...)wiring configurations, so i know what im talking about. now for the review. ok, im here to tell you that this is an awesome pick up. bottom line, buy it now. fyi, the only position i used it in is the bridge, so keep that in mind. now to what i did with it. first, i put into my Indonesian squire strat, just for fun. it truely did make the guitar worth playing! distortion sounded great! but as another reviewer mentioned, it made the cleans HORRIBLE. like really, really bad, muddy, (pardon my greek) it sounded like s?at?! the basswood was eating up the lows and mids. then, i put it into my Chinese epiphone sg G400 (mahogany), and holy crap, it is BEAUTIFUL! seriously, because of the 500k pots in the sg, verses the 250k in the strat, it has much more output all across the board than a regularly wired single would. screaming "bell-like' highs, and some kick a$$ crunch mids, and topping it off, the tight lows, and not muddy at all. same for clean. beautiful! of course, the tone knob got rolled back a bit to soften the attack, but man, what a sound! 100% recommended!
