The Chrome Domes have been praised for both their "sweet, rounded tones" and simultaneously described as sounding like "a Strat on steroids." This was accomplished by modifying a guitar pickup already known for its bell-like tone and rich history, the original Gold Sensor.

Lace took the Gold, long a favorite of such artists as Eric Clapton, and "slammed and crammed" it with "hotter magnetic", and reverse wound the middle pickup, then wrapped the pickups in chrome-plated heavy brass.

Lace specifically upgraded it and did some very direct tweaking with the coil, so it gives a sweeter, more rounded tone, but with a lot more punch. This "turbo charging" results in sweet highs that don't pierce and solid lows that don't boom and a lot of power. If there was ever a hot rod vintage Lace Sensor pickup, this is the one.

Lace includes a three-inch mini data CD that includes all its latest wiring diagrams in color along with Lace's most current pickup and guitar catalogs. Also includes a warranty card and other useful information regarding Lace Music Products.

  • Great Pickups

    I built my own custom guitar and used these bad boys for it. they were exactly the tone i was looking for. I mostly just use the neck pickup but all 3 give my guitar its own unique sound. Other than finding a wire short in one of the ground wires they've been the best pickups i've used for my style of guitar. I play blues, rock and alot of clean and they sound amazing!

  • Warm tone

    I'm only interested in obvious changes in tonal quality. My strat came stock with vintage noiseless pickups in the neck and middle position with a fender humbucker for the bridge. I replaced the humbucker with the SH-55 seth lover. The disparity in tonal quality between the single coils and humbucker was glaring. So I purchased the lace chrome domes for the neck and middle. They are warm, clean, noiseless pickups as advertised. However there is no tonal difference between the neck and middle positions at least on my strats. This may have to do with the pickup design. so I put the fender vintage noiseless back in the neck position. The chrome dome is cleaner, darker but not "better". Now the neck-middle position has an acoustic guitar quality. Positions 2 and 4 are perfection. The chrome dome complements a seth lover humbucker no question about it. I never put the chrome dome 13k in the bridge so don't know how that would have sounded but I did put the bridge pickup in the middle position on my other strat (that has the same config). The chrome dome is the perfect middle pickup so it gets five stars but I can't personally recommend them for your other positions because there are better options.
