  • Excellent Pickup!

As reviewed by Rodney Ignacio on 6/6/2010

When I bought this a few months ago, I originally purchased the one with the female end, which isn't good if you're trying to gather at least 10 feet of length to your PA w/o an adaptor, like your tuner, to link with your instrument cable. This one works much better! Just bring an instrument cable and plug into your mixer and you're set. Now let's get to the technical part of this product. I will say in some ways, it's inferior to, say, the LR Baggs, which I have used once before. The dynamic range and clarity don't quite match up to it. Also, I wish it had volume control from the pickup, where instead you have to walk to your amp or PA and manually change the volume. With that being said, it's so much easier than LR Baggs to clip in and go. I own a music education company that does many performance opportunities (e.g. recitals, community events, etc.) with our students and we can't take 5 min.+ to figure out how to put those bulky things on! The Lace CA pickup is light, compact, and it fits most guitars. I say most because it won't fit 3/4 sizes, though loosening the screws should allow you to pop it in somehow. In the end, you get what you pay for. If your main concern is getting the #1 or #2 sounding pickup and want more functionality with volume control, then pay more and get something else. But if you want just an above average one that's 100 times easier to put on while getting good bang for your buck, get the Lace California Pickup. You will not be disappointed.
