Overview

The Hybrid CW is the nylon-stringed guitar for the acoustic-electric player who, like most of us, is not necessarily a classical guitarist. As the name suggests, the Hybrid has mixed origins derived from traditional nylon-stringed guitars and a desire to meet the needs of modern guitar players.

Hand-crafted in LaPatrie, Quebec, this smooth-sounding nylon-stringed guitar features a solid cedar top, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard with a classical 2" (5.1 cm) nut width. However, this classical nut width won't seem so traditional when you feel the unique radiused fingerboard. Not only does it allow for faster playability, but also for a new level of comfort not readily available on a standard classical nylon-string fingerboard.

Although the Hybrid's neck width and string spacing are sized to classical guitar standards, a truss rod allows for a thinner neck profile. Besides the new comfort of the radiused fingerboard, the Hybrid also allows for access to the upper frets via a cutaway body. Some other esthetic goodies include cream binding, a detailed sound-hole rosette and a hand finished, contoured headstock.

As with all acoustic models in the Godin family only genuine lacquer finish is used, allowing the top to breathe and vibrate freely. This strong belief in applying genuine lacquer translates into a guitar that will experience and benefit from the aging process...the more the instrument is played, the better it will sound over time.

For the gigging/working musician the Hybrid CW comes standard issue with Godin Quantum II electronics and the innovative TRIC (Thermal regulated instrument case) to thermally protect and securely house the Hybrid CW.

      nice guitar

      By AMS

Comments about La Patrie Hybrid CW Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

i played one at a local music store, they offered it to me about $200 less than the 789 here. I was very tempted, the guitar sounded very nice plugged in, the controls were nice and easy to use. the only downside was the sound unplugged, while it was good, it didn't impress me as much as some of the other classicals at the store. i ultimately bought a la patrie presentation with the q1 electronics, it sounded great plugged and unplugged and was a bit cheaper

      Fine guitar all around

      By Hawk

      from Bay Area, CA

Comments about La Patrie Hybrid CW Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Thsi is a fine classical guitar for a spectacular price. It's not even made in China as many are these days. The tone is great either in acoustic or electric mode. Tuner works even when guitar is not plugged in to amp (great feature). Electric players will find the neck very easy to adapt to. Classical players might find it too narrow. Kudo's to our friendly neighbors in Canada for producing a fantastic intrument that is in the price range for most players. The only thing I would like to see is a pick guard or tap plate (which I will add later).

If I had this guitar in high school...

      By C.E. Lear

Comments about La Patrie Hybrid CW Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For all my life, I have been a finger picking folk rocker. Starting with a Goya G-10, I moved to an Epiphone 12-string, Martin D-35, an Ibanez 12-string and an Ibanez acoustic/electric classical. I cheat shamelessly when I play, thumbing some chords and using a capo without conscience. No guitar has complimented my style like the LaPatrie Hybrid. If I had had this guitar in high school, I would be a retired famous singer-songwriter today. Strings sound individually but blend in beautiful chords. Acoustic or electric, I have never owned a more satisfying instrument.

      LaPatrie Hybrid

      By Anonymous

Comments about La Patrie Hybrid CW Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

OK. LaPatrie classical guitars have always impressed me. I have owned two over the years and they have a very warm, mellow tone, the action is usually decent and for the money, they're hard to beat. I had been wanting an electric classical for a while and had seen some good reviews of this guitar in magazines. So, I took a chance. First: the guitar is gorgeous. LaPatrie has outdone itself with the finish on this guitar. It looks nearly perfect from top to bottom, no sloppy craftsmanship here (unlike some of the Spanish made classical guitars I've tried.) Second: the neck feels like a crosstie. It is huge. I guess I am used to classicals with no trussrods, but man, this neck feels massive. Third: The unplugged sound is OK - a little muffled, so I plugged it in, and guess what? No big difference. The controls are hard to mainpulate and it feeds back like a banshee. I can't tell a huge difference in any of the settings. I admit, I am dissapointed. The guitar is cool, but maybe just not for me. I guess Segovia was right not trusting microphones and amps to reproduce the true classical guitar sound.

      What happened to La Patrie?

      By Sore Calluses

      from Northern California

Comments about La Patrie Hybrid CW Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I play a classical la Patrie guitar, with an active pickup that I installed, in a mostly tango gig band. I wanted to upgrade from the La Patrie that I have. I should mention that the La Patrie Etude guitar that I already have is quite loud, deep and bright, a strong guitar. Playability is better than average. So I was hoping this new La Patrie wold be an upgrade in sound, features, and playability. I spent about half an hour with it at a nearby great music store. I was terribly dissapointed. The neck buzzed at almost all frets. The neck was both humped and bowed at the samed time - didn't know this was possibly. I don't think truss rod adjustment can fix both hump AND bow. I was surprised to find that the workmanship was also terrible. This axe looks good from a distance, but up close - man, what happened to your quality control La Patrie? Gaps in the binding, finish problems, just shoddy. I'd have overlooked this if it played okay. Maybe, just maybe if I took it to a luthier, I could get the neck, nut, bridge, frets worked out. But to spend more money on the thing? I would prefer if La Patrie had somebody up there checking the thing out before sending it off, and pulling off the duds like this one for fire wood. I'm scared off from ordering one and having to send it back again. Meanwhile I'll continue to enjoy the LaPatrie Etude that has better sound than anything else I've played for the price.

      A Monster

      By Mr. G

      from Castaic, CA

Comments about La Patrie Hybrid CW Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a fine instrument with huge tone and a wide dynamic range. The neck is wide which is comfortable for the right hand and the truss rod allows for great low action. The guitar just sings! It is a full sized classical with a slightly reduced neck thickness (so don't expect it to feel like an electric or Steel string- it still feels like a Classical Guitar to me but it's a nicely shaped neck and a lot easier to get around than a Standard Classical). Workmanship is amazing for this price range- hand made! The pickup/mic is very honest sounding, best I've heard. It is good in lower volume situations- it feeds back easily because this is a very resonant instrument- it's not made for high SPL's. I have had good luck running the built-in mic out of phase with the pickup. This helps reject FB. I am very pleased with this Nylon- it has a big heart and goes toe to toe with almost anything out there with a cutaway. Awesome value in every way
