I may purchase this or another Baggs pickup next time

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

Pickup does well. Installed in Yairi DY-85. I'm not really blown back with quality of the sound but has very clear treble and bass. I think that my next acoustic pickup will be a saddle one.

Great tone, fairly easy to install

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

Put this in a Martin OM-28. Fairly easy with the proper tools, supplied jig worked well in placing the I-beam in the right place. The peel and stick adhesives worked well. The tone is great, and brings out the rich tone of the Martin. It is natural sounding, no quackiness but perhaps not as sensitive to percussive hand sounds if you're a "thumper". I have had feedback issues in gigging situations, so there is a drawback in not having onboard eq, and you'll probably need to address this with an outboard eq or with the mixing board. Just the same I've been able to manage the slight howl with palm muting. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. Good price for a high quality pickup/preamp for a vintage guitar.

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

I needed a pickup for my 12 string and after scouring all the different products, settled on the iBeam Active. My biggest concern at first was "would this work well on a 12 string?". I called LRBaggs and spoke with a guy there and felt like I got an honest response about this product and decided to give it a go. The installation was a piece of cake - just take your time and it is so easy. My 12 string sounds absolutely amazing now. Thank you LR Baggs!!!!!

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

I'll have to admit I was a bit afraid of installing this myself, but it turned out to be relatively easy, even for a clod like me. The only extra thing you'll really need is a drill with a 1/2" step bit. You can get one online really cheap, but they're essential for getting a clean hole for the jack to go though. Also, I got a good pickup placement on the first try on my Martin D1GT--just followed the directions.

The sound is very good--much more realistic to my ears than any soundhole pickup. I've used some really nice ones, but I'd take the plunge and go with something like this, which gives a truer, less mid-rangey sound. Compared to an under-the-saddle pickup the quality is similar without the trickier installation. If installation scares you, there are some good instructional videos on YouTube. But really, if you can handle a drill and some sticky tape, you can handle this.

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

I installed the nylon string model in my LAG T66N. It's an auditorium sized nylon string guitar with a slightly narrower neck than a classical, and a laminated top. The guitar has excellent tone and decent volume alone, but playing it thru a mike was a pain. I took a stab at the IBeam, and what a nice combo! I got the active model with the volume control. It renders the natural sound of the guitar very authentically, and with the volume control, I can make fine tweaks easily on stage. The guitar is not particularly high-end, but the output from the pickup through an amp or PA is excellent for my purposes. I am thinking of buying another for my steel string.

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

This is a high-quality device that produces great sound. It's noiseless. I was initially concerned that installing it might change the acoustic, non-amplified sound of my guitar. But it had no noticeable effect. It's all positive.

            Very nice pickup

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

I put one of these in my Taylor GS mini and it sounds fantastic. Very lively on the string attack, excellent reproduction of taps on the top and sides of the body. It has a very warm sound to it, similar to the sound of my 816, but obviously not on the same level. I initially strung the mini with Martin 80/20 bronze 12's, as I don't keep 80/20 Elixirs on hand...it didn't sound quite right to me, I replaced them with Elixir nanoweb phosphor 12's after playing an open mic with the martins and the sound is perfect. Installation took me about 20 minutes from taking the guitar out of the case to plugging it in to test. It's extremely easy, I'm no guitar tech.

            Great product

            By Ron Kadey

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

I recently bought a used Martin D16GT that had a basic under the saddle pick-up and it sounded awful. After shopping and reading all the reviews I decided to buy the L R Baggs I Beam. It was also recommended by a local luthier. It sounds great and was a piece of cake to install. Check the "how to" videos on Youtube. Even without the videos, the directions are very clear from the manufacturer. Note that self installation voids the warranty.

Great Sound / Fairly Easy Install

            By Walter Graczyk

            from Keyport, NJ

Comments about LR Baggs iBeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System:

Sounds Great - better than I expected. I installed this pickup in a Taylor Big Baby and chose this one, because I really didn't want to install an "Under Saddle" pickup and mess with the Bridge, Saddle, String action, etc.... just seemed to complicated and touchy to me. Anyway - installation of the iBeam was pretty easy. Hardest part was drilling out the 1/2' hole at the back end (end pin) of the guitar. I used 2 videos to do the installation. I ran the wiring inside, along the top of the guitar, so there would be less of a chance of people seeing it when standing in front of you, while playing. Also - I mounted the Volume knob at the top of the sound hole towards the bridge. Figured this was the easy & fastest access spot (just roll your finger across it). Pickup was mounted in-line with the saddle using the placement-tool they provided. Sounds Great! I would say the only negative would be - being able to reach into the guitar sound whole above or below the strings to change the 9V battery, and then get the little battery bag velcroed back inside. I mounted the battery bag (& velcro) on the block of would directly under the part Neck as it overlays on the body of the guitar. I didn't want to put it directly on the inside of the body - because I feared that it might be too much pressure in that area, when pulling it off and pressing it back on during battery changes. Hope this helps!
