Overview

The M1 Active features built-in all class A electronics, so there's no need for any external preamps and it's compatible with any outboard equipment. The new volume control gives you fingertip access in any performing situation.

The M1 is a humbucking pickup with a twist. In a common stacked humbucker, the second, lower coil cancels hum, but doesn't contribute anything positive to the sound. In fact, it can muddy the sound of the main coil. The M1 unlocks the second coil. This allows it to make a positive sonic contribution while maintaining the pure open sound of a single coil--but without the hum.

TriAxial Dynamic Technology
The hum-canceling coil is suspended under the main coil by a tuned support that allows it to move in 3 dimensions. The primary coil moves with the guitar top and creates a body signal in the suspended secondary coil. This brings the M1 to life, with string and body sound all in one. It's like having a dual pickup system in your soundhole. And it's all passive! The support is carefully tuned to control motion in all 3 dimensions. This allows you to selectively add the presence and realism from the body signal while suppressing runaway feedback.

      Great Sound

      By Bob

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

I have a Heritage Series Gretsch Rancher jumbo 6-string. I had been using a Fishman passive pickup. The Fishman sound was thin and weak. On the recommendation of Bruce at the Guitar Center in Madison, I ordered the LR Baggs M1A pickup. The install was a little tricky due to the large body of the jumbo acoustics and the limitations of getting one's arm into the sound hole ... a set of channel locks were required. More importantly, the sound is superb. Strong, clean tone through the PA or into the clean channel of my Fender amp. I've tested any number of other pickups and this one outshines them all. The volume control is simple and accessible. There is no hum, it is clear as a bell. I run it through my pedalboard, but only to use the tuner. I wouldn't mess with tone that is so good. I have never had any feedback problems. If you need a pickup for an acoustic guitar, get this one.

      Amazing Acoustic P/U

      By Sheila Dole

      from Indianapolis

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

I have an old 70's Alvarez acoustic that I just love but it didn't have a pick up in it. I have seen this L.R. Baggs on t.v. and live situations. It seems to be used by several artists...so I got one. I didn't install it myself...I have a guy I have trusted for many years for that sort of thing. Anyway, I couldn't be more happy with the sound, tone and no noise! I have used a Seymour Duncan "woody" before and it was o.k. but very noisy. The sound guys I have worked with have had nothing but great things to say about this L.R. Baggs. Very easy to mix and EQ! I did have a situation at church one Sunday morning though. The little volume wheel went up into the cavity of the pick up during a service and I couldn't access it to turn the volume up...so that was an awkward moment especially since I was starting the song off and singing lead on it as well. It turns out that the screws holding the bottom and top of the P/U came loose causing the volume wheel to come out of place...But it was repaired in between services and all was well! Other than that issue I couldn't been more happy with this P/U overall. Be sure to keep the screws holding the top and bottom of the P/U tight so the volume wheel doesn't slip up into the middle of the P/U! It may be snug fitting in the sound hole but better than loosing the volume wheel thus loosing the ability to turn it up & down! YIKES!! Awkward moment for sure!

      Awesome!!

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

after going through pain and anguish with a Dean Markley Pro Mag, and Pro Mag Plus, i used the credit i got back from returning the Pro Mag Plus, and paid the difference. this pickup sounds great all by itself. although i do have a eg to help control the highs, low, mids. it's pricey, but worth it. installation was pretty easy, i did it myself. if your worried about ruining your guitar, take it to a pro and have them install it.

      Incredible.

      By Kyle Allen

      from Covington, GA

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

I just bought this pickup from my local Guitar Center store and all I can say is "WOW!" The associate that helped me at the store was so knowledgeable about the pickup and highly recommended it. I had to drill a hole in my guitar in order to get the endpin jack through the bottom of the guitar, but the incredibly rich tone along with sparkling highs, balanced mids and deep bass makes it worth it. The pickup comes with an extra battery (one already in the pickup ready to go and a spare) and a few more pieces for the pickup. I was concerned with how I was going to get my arm in through the guitar to get the endpin in there (I have an Epiphone EJ-200 super jumbo) but jack part (after taking of all the screws and whatnot) actually has a hole in it so that I could thread a piece of string through it and get the jack through without having to stick my hand through the guitar. Easy installation and incredible sound makes this pickup definitely worth the price!

      NO REGRETS

      By Aaron Wright

      from Lexington, KY

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

No regrets in buying the M1A. Recently installed this pickup on my Gibson SJ and I couldn't be more satisfied with the sound. Everyone knows Fishman makes some very nice pickups, but after personally playing and audio sampling different styles, LR Baggs took the cake. I like having the volume control, so the active version was worth the few extra bucks. This pickup captures the tone well of my 70's Gibson.. Thats really all I can ask for. I haven't done any recording with this guy yet.. but I'm not expecting it to replace the quality sound of studio mics. If you're interested in a sound-hole pickup I would definitely consider this.

Excellent pickup - made my cheap beater acoustic sound great!

      By John Picinich

      from Altamont, NY

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

I put a LR Baggs M1a (active) in an inexpensive Fender DG 14S acoustic. I had originally picked up this guitar (used $100) as a campfire beater. Turns out it really plays great. Given how much I liked it, I was bummed that I couldn't play it through my Fishman amp without a mic. The M1a pickup was a great choice and really makes this guitar sound excellent. Installation was easy (if you have skinny arms that fit in the sound hole). All I can say is WOW!!! Very pleased.

      really Good

      By Charles Evatt

      from little rock Arkansas

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

I Got one of these when the electronics on my guitar went out.it is by far the most natural sounding pick up i've ever used. and perfect for single note picking riffs and leads. i did find that it can sound a little too full when you play a part that requires busy strumming with a larger band arrangement. it can be a little temperamental finding its place in the mix if you your have say 2 electrics, bass, keys, drums or more players. it can compete pretty heavy with other mid and low mid toned instruments. we were eventually able to find a good blend. i use it all the time when i don't have a keyboard player and only have 1 electric player cause it does fill the empty space in the mix quite well, but with a larger band set up it seems like a piezo finds its home a little easier from the sound boards perspective. it is also a magnetic pick up so if you do have band noise problems in the venue you play at you can still have a little hum going on.

      Finally

      By Dr. Divinity

      from Kansas City Missouri

Comments about LR Baggs M1A Active Soundhole Magnetic Pickup:

Not much too say. This product far exceeded my expectations. It works well, was easy to install and sounds perfect right out of the box. Adjustments to particular style are a breeze. I can't believe it but it sounds better than taylor electronics even at loud volume. Amazing. Just what i was looking for!
