Overview

For acoustic guitarists who prefer a minimalist approach to controls, LR Baggs offers the Anthem SL acoustic microphone and preamp system. In the SL, the balance between the Tru-Mic and Element pickup is preset for optimum performance so you can have the same great fidelity in an end-pin preamp format. The preamp, with LR Baggs famous all-discrete studio quality circuitry, is also equipped with a soundhole mounted volume control.

The mic is mounted to the bridge plate inside of the guitar to capture the majority of your guitar's true voice in a way that only a microphone is capable of-plus it is amazingly feedback resistant. The Element undersaddle pickup carries only the lowest frequencies for punch and authority.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem SL Acoustic Microphone/Preamp System:

I looked into this to replace a k & k mini in my Martin D-16gt. I had it put in when the guitar was new. I spent lots of money trying to tame the heavy midrange and bass responses to no avail. I purchased three different brands and types of preamps, working with impedance match and notch filters. Just couldn't get what I wanted - which was the sound of my guitar. If I got the "honkiness" out of the mids, I seem to lose the warmth of the guitar. Tried different strings, cables, amps, PA's, etc. Didn't really make that much difference. I noticed my transducers for the k & k were either older version or ones made for a 12 string (3 in total with larger black ones on the outside and a green one in the center). This could have been my whole problem.

However decided to try the dual source of the LR Baggs Anthem SL. It worked beautifully. It brings out the warmth and bass, but not the heaviness of either. Really the best sound I have heard from the guitar no matter what I tried. I also use a Baggs para di, but really have it set pretty close to flat. It's just in the signal chain in case I need some last minutes EQ for a different sound system I play through.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem SL Acoustic Microphone/Preamp System:

Installed it myself in a Taylor 214 I have owned over 10 years. Used alot of blue tape and a half inch paddle bit to drill the 1/2 inch hole, perfect, just keep even pressure and level. No chiping whatso ever.Cleaned the inside with a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water so the adhesive would stick better, Perfect. Once all installed, wow super sound, I have the Lyric installed in a Martin d18, and the Anthem with the undersadle wire seems to have much more bass and balances sound. Love it. Read the install directions on the LL Braggs site, if your a DYI kinda person.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem SL Acoustic Microphone/Preamp System:

Had this installed in my 80's era Alvarez acoustic (had no pickup before), the sound is great but the volume is a bit light. Not an issue on a solo or duo gig but would need a signal boost if working with live drums. I've been cautious about setting the mic volume too high and getting unwanted feedback, have to try bumping it up to see if it solves the overall volume issue. Still a great addition to make a 30+ year old guitar heard by everyone in the room.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem SL Acoustic Microphone/Preamp System:

I installed this in a Taylor Big Baby in about 2 hours. The packaging is great and keeps the pickups from getting damaged before purchase. Unfortunately Taylor doesn't give installation instructions and you void their warranty unless you have it professionally installed. Online videos have the steps listed out and it is fairly straightforward if you do a little research how the pickups work. The sound is extremely close to the natural acoustic voice. A mic preamp setting inside the unit is about all you need to adjust to set the tone to more mic or more bridge pickup. Other than the volume and a battery, this is just a plug and play pickup once installed. Also you won't need to cut a hole in the top for the unit, since most of it resides inside the 1/4 plug/strap jack. I've yet to play live, but recordings are loud and clear even without equalization or s D.I. box. Worth the money. Just don't wait 2 years like I did. Get it and you won't be disappointed.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem SL Acoustic Microphone/Preamp System:

It is a great choice for a quality sounding pickup system. Easy to install, easy to adjust and use.At the end of the day the sound that I want to hear come from the sound system is the sound of my acoustic guitar. That is why I have payed so much for a hand made acoustic guitar. To use anything that would make my guitar sound less than it does naturally would just be kind of nuts.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem SL Acoustic Microphone/Preamp System:

It's always nerve-racking to consider drilling holes in a Martin, but I've been wanting to amplify it for years. After much research, I decided I wanted the LR Baggs Anthem SL. Advice: TAKE YOUR TIME. Don't be in a rush! Read the instructions a few times - carefully examine your guitar and plan. Always use a brand new, sharp drill bit (a dull one could ruin your finish). If you're not 100% confident, find a pro. The installation was easy once I completed my plan, and when I plugged it in for the first time: pure wonderment! I played for a solid hour marveling at the sound. Good luck to you on whatever you select!
