This Soul Cajon from Latin Percussion features a unique hexagonal rear panel for focused, enhanced bass. Designed by Mario Cortez, it's front striking panel is made of Finnish birch.

The cajon is a truly amazing instrument. Ostensibly a wooden box, the cajon drum is much more, providing many striking areas and "sweet spots" and a range of tones from snappy highs to resonant lows. When constructed meticulously and placed in the hands of a capable percussionist, the cajon can open up a variety of pitches and timbres, complementing flamenco and various Latin genres.

The LP Soul Cajon by Mario Cortes is constructed from specially selected birch pieces. Birch is a wood admirably suited to cajons owing to its emphasis on clean highs and natural low end, both obtainable without excessive player effort. Instruments constructed of Finnish birch are often termed "naturally EQ-ed" and this attribute of the Soul Cajon will surely augment LP's reputation as manufacturer of the most recorded cajons in the history of flamenco, fusion, and world music.

Handmade in Spain and individually tested, the LP Soul Cajon by Mario Cortes features a construction system so unique it is patented. All joints are dovetailed rather than simply butted. Internal wire snare strands add high end sizzle to the conga-like highs and lows emitted by this premium hand drum.

Designed by Mario Cortes, renowned flamenco guitarist and instrument maker, the LP cajon drum is a natural fit in all flamenco inspired and world music ensembles. It speaks in rich tones, with the right balance of attack and resonance and, thus, is bound to be a highly sought-after instrument.

Prepare to be amazed

By Carlos G. Castro

Comments about LP Soul Cajon:

OK, so it's a box, right! Wrong! Mario Cortez knows guitars and that their resonance relies on TONE woods. That said, this caj_n has thundering yet very dynamic lows and beautiful conga galleta (gah y' tuh) high tone cracks. It looks so stunning that my wife displays it in the fam. room! Only "Fat Congas" is comparable. But, IMOH, THERE IS NONE OTHER AT THIS PRICE POINT. GREAT CONSTRUCTION. Get truly soulful, very versatile sounds with MINIMAL EFFORT. Well worth the wait.

Awesome Instrument

Comments about LP Soul Cajon:

This Cajon is built with very high quality. The box is a piece of art with a nice vaneer. The adjustment for the snare portion is awesome, and allwos fien tuning to get it extra snappy. Lots of Bass, and its amazing how much sound you can create without the need for a mic. Run your foot along the face and you are able to tune the drum as you play. Fun to play along with music, or just to jam out with your friends. Surely anywhere you bring this awesome instument you will be inspiring individuals. Show off your drum skills without the whole kit! I have read many reviews on other cheaper cajons, and they all basically say they lack in tone. You get what you pay for and for the cost savings is is truly worth being dissapointed in your purchase? This cajon plays like it claims, and after loosining up the snare a little bit with the included key, and breaking in the birch face, it sounds great!

Didn't really measure to the positive reviews

By Fermin Baez

Comments about LP Soul Cajon:

For years I've played with LP instruments and I do consider them top quality. I must admit this is the first time I'm not impressed with an LP product. Considering the price tag and impressive description of the LP Soul Cajon I was expecting much more. But lets start with the good things. This cajon does have a powerful deep bass sound as advertised. The snare sound is also good. But, on the downside, the front panel is glued all the way around. As a result there is simply no possible screw adjustment of the upper corners where one usually look for the snappy high pitch sounds. The corners sound somewhat muted and require a strong hand to produce snappy sounds, if any at all. Besides that the finish is not as advertised. To me the paint job is somewhat sloppy, as is evident the cajon was fully assembled when the paint was applied, so the front plate screws and even the rubber feet at the bottom are covered with paint. This detail is purely aesthetic but some (like me) would consider it important, specially coming from LP. Not a bad instrument, but definitely not top of the line in my humble opinion.
