I can't resist the different sound an effect can add to percussion. I have four different cowbells and three different bells. Of course, you use these effects in a subtle manner, but the accent they add is worth it. I am not a musician that plays out, but I love the latin flair bells add to the music phrasing.
Because it's a folded metal design, it has a much drier tone and almost no sustain. It gives you great articulation for fast patterns, but holds up well as a quarter note ride as well. It's a lot punchier than my hand hammered Meinl. It doesn't have the ability to cut through that the Meinl does, but unless your in an unmiked situation that requires you to beat the living heck out of your equipment this bell should do just fine. It's just over 4" so it's got a bit of a higher pitch. If you need a real low pitch get something else. This is bell will add a nice color to your playing. If you're looking for another sound source to expand your thinking, you really owe it to yourself to check out this bell.
