The LP Classic II Top-Tuning Conga embodies an idea that's totally revolutionary and at the same time seems so obvious that you'll wonder why no one has done it before. The idea is simple: A system for tuning your conga drum from the top, without having to turn the drum, lift it out of its basket, or remove it from its stand. Some traditionalists may question the idea, but most congueros will immediately recognize the advantages that tuning on-the-fly offers”especially in live situations.
Immediate access to all the conga's tension bolts eliminates situations where only the nearest bolts can be tensioned easily in a hurry”situations that result in uneven tuning. With top tuning you quickly have access to every tension bolt to tune the head evenly for good fundamental pitch.
The LP Classic II conga is crafted with 30" tall Siam oak shells with an 11-3/4" diameter natural rawhide head. LP fits the Classic II with a specially modified Comfort Curve II steel rim to they've welded unique "ears" for access to each tuning bolt's top. The ears have a V shape that echoes the shape of LP conga's heavy-duty steel side plates. They're also carefully recessed below the level of the Comfort Curve II rims to ensure comfort for your hands and extended playability.
In addition, with the top-tuning system you have a direct pull on each tension bolt, eliminating the "bend" that often occurs with hooked tension bolts. To make things even easier, the tuning bolts are fitted with hex heads that turn with a standard socket”available in any hardware store (just in case the included tension wrench is ever misplaced).
When it comes to sonic performance and construction quality, LP congas have been the industry standard for generations. Now that standard has been raised significantly with LP's revolutionary top-tuning system.
