Finally! A quality cajon pedal that does what it promises. I've played both a hand drum set and a traditional drum set for several years, but recently I've started combining elements from both to form a hybrid kit that can accomodate many styles of music and venues. This pedal provides a deep bass sound (on my LP Americana snare cajon), eliminating the need for a regular bass drum in my hybrid set up. I often perform in small, intimate venues, with just a guitarist, and this pedal frees up both hands to play congas, snare/hi-hat, and small percussion. I can quickly remove the cajon from the pedal to play it traditional style. No need to mic it in acoustic settings - it has plenty of volume! However, the cajon needs to be mic'd at plugged-in gigs to be heard prominently in the mix. My bandmates were pleasantly surprised when I played standard bass drum patterns using this pedal on my cajon. My 22" bass drum is staying home for awhile. Thanks LP for turning a promising concept into a satisfying reality.

I was thrilled to play my new LP cajon pedal... until the cable snapped in the middle of my 6th gig. That was awkward to say the least. My preferred local music store graciously exchanged it for one still in the box. After my 4th gig with that unit, the cable snapped again!

I own a number of LP products, and I'm generally satisfied with the quality. This item, however, is not a professional level product. It just does not hold up.

The unfortunate issue from my standpoint is NO ONE out there offers a better alternative, and that puts a professional player in a very bad position. An even worse reality is LP (now owned by DW) is apparently not supporting its retailers when it comes to this kind of thing which leaves them holding the bag for their customers. Not good! DW needs to fix this!

Works while it works

      Comments about LP Cajon Pedal:

Pedal works ok and set up easy, but read the reviews on line and you will hear people complain about the cable breaking. Mine was no exception and the spot where the problem is appears to be consistent. Why the company doesn't make a change so there is a direct drive at the beater rather than have the cable roll over a slotted cam where it shreds is difficult to understand. Lucky I bought the protection agreement and am just putting the refund towards another pedal.

        Comments about LP Cajon Pedal:

This device works great...once you get a professional drummer to make all the adjustments. If you're new to drumming and pedal setup, I highly recommend you get a professional drummer to do the initial adjustments before you use it, and relay that info to you. After setup then it is simple enough to remember. I used mine right out of the box and it scratched my cajon a little. In my drummers opinion it was a very professionally made device, but needed his adjustment expertise. That fact that it has so many adjustments is a plus. That makes it more useful for lots of different users. I only gave it 4 stars because I felt it should have had a setup manual with it.

            Comments about LP Cajon Pedal:

Using a lock washer to secure the cable end to the beater axle is poor practice - the locking feature on the washer will cut the cable. I replaced it with a flat washer and changed out the acorn nut for one with a NyLock insert. No issues now. I also aligned the cable take off with the anchor point on the beater axle - more efficient and no bending loads to jack up the pedal efforts. Got it Saturday and worked it hard for four hours on the following day.

                Comments about LP Cajon Pedal:

I used this with a Trio and it broke in the first set of the first go I used it. The cable started fraying a few songs in and eventually snapped ruining the gig. Fortunately it's a pedal for a cajon so I was able to limp through the rest of the night playing it as it was ment to be played.

                Comments about LP Cajon Pedal:

I bought this thinking I'd free up my hands to play some other percussion instruments, but I didn't realize the sacrifice in cajon sound generation. Yes, I understand that it's not supposed to be as good as what you'd get playing with your hands. But, even with several adjustments of where the beater hits the cajon surface, I found the results to always be poor. I have "modify the beater or beater post" on my "to do" list, in an effort to try and generate a more realistic hand-played sound. But for now, it's just sitting on my shelf as a backup option to what I've found to be a much better solution... my Roland SPD-30 (Octapad) with the Roland KD-9 kick pedal.

On the upside, it does seem to be quality made... which is why I'm at least keeping it around as a backup option. I take excellent care of my gear, but for those that are a little less careful during pack-up and transport, you'll want to be careful with the cable and connections (high potential for breakage opportunities).

After receiving two broken Meinl pedals, I asked customer service to upgrade my order to the LP pedal. Best decision I ever made. The small difference in price is well worth it. Save yourself time and a lot of frustration, and order this much higher quality pedal first.

Buyer be warned. I've been shipped an incorrect order twice for this pedal. Each time it has arrived without the connector bar. Guitar Center has been slow at best in addressing the issue and obviously did not check the second time since they shipped without the connector bar again. Customer service made me drive 40 minutes to return the pedal they shipped incorrectly. Now I sit on hold awaiting another correction. This pedal is very ineffective without the connector bar.
