I got my Aspire Conga Set a couple months ago, and it sounds great. It has never fallen over or slide down the stand. This conga set is good for beginners and Advanced. It has great tone, and beautiful sunburst finish. I've play them at sevral conserts and get to togethers. Iam so happy that I spent my money on somthing good. I've never had a better one
I wasn't going to buy this set; my eye was on another pair. Then I played them. For the price, I knew I couldn't do any better. The stand isn't the best, but I found it to be better than some of the other reviews stated. I played this set, then a set ranging at about $250 per drum, then the top of the line LP. There's clearly a difference, but the devil's in the details. The conga sounds a bit more muffled than the higher lines. The quinto, however, is amazing. I love the high end pop and the slaps on this thing come through crisp and clear. I picked up the tobacco fade option which matches my kit. They are gorgeous. I bought these in store at guitar center and got a great deal. Thanks to the Pleasant Hill Store in GA for such great service.
Not a bad set, but the major problem I found is with the heads. They are inexpensive, and no matter how you tune them have a ringing tone. I have never been able to make them sound like "real" congas (i.e. - the recorded sound of a conga, played by a professional), but then again, maybe that's my fault. Normally you could just buy better quality (synthetic) heads, but most replacement heads won't fit the Aspire model congas. Also, unless you're actually going to be playing latin jazz, you probably don't need 2 drums, at least to start with. If I had it to do over I think I would spend the same amount of money on 1 conga drum, and start with a slightly better quality drum. If you do get 2, my recommendation would be to go with a conga and tumba, rather than the more traditional conga/quinto combo. If you look at drummer's websites you will see very few people using a quinto, and I've never found much use for it.
