Latin Percussion LP845-K Mini Timbales are fashioned after LP's famous full-size Tito Puente Timbales. The timbale set with clamp has 6" and 8" diameter drums with 3-1/4" depth.
The drums' chrome-plated steel timbale shells have authentic Cuban-style tuning. LP mini timbales create a dry sound, making them an ideal addition to any percussion setup that can easily be incorporated into drum kits.
Each LP timbale set includes a heavy-duty, chrome tilting mount that attaches to any 3/8" diameter rod.

The Lp mini timbale set is a great add on for your drum kit. They offer a unique tone and sound for your music and are alot of fun to throw into solos. I have had them for a year now and all I needed to do is change the stock heads to remo pinstripes. My advice is to purchase these, there loads of fun and sound great!
I was looking for a way to add some additional auxiliary percussion without a lot of bulk and weight. (All of those extra Latin style drum shells are a pain in the butt when you are talking about hauling them through hotel kitchens on the way to and from a job.) I was already impressed with LP's compact conga/quero setup, having owned the pair from the date they were first available, and when we saw this little pair of drums at Guitar Center, we were quite pleased.
Quality was as is found in all other LP products (my group owns perhaps twenty in all), with a sharp appearance. The sound is about as good as could be expected, with a nice, tuned "oil drum" effect.
Size wise, they couldn't be better. With the LP Compact Timbales, we can fit both our compact conga/quero set and the compact timbales into the same Yamaha rolling carrying case, stands and all, with enough room for a bunch of other auxiliary stuff in the bargain. Instead of two monster conga shells and two large timbales on a cart, it's all in a rolling bin carried to the job by our bass trombone player.
The only small fly in the ointment is the mounting system. I understand the need to accommodate percussion folks, and I know that the "rod" mount is common for drummers with complex kits. However, the only way we could mount this on a freestanding stand (a DL snare drum stand) was in a semi-off balance condition, this due to the six inch long (and rock solid) clamp mount required to handle the rod. Not as solid as I would like, but I'm still working at it.
One other thing. With some auxiliary brackets and LP cowbells, you can hang a substantial Latin sound setup on one stand. We deploy the aux percussion stuff for a sax or trombone player to hack away on, and it's nice to have the ability to mount a complete setup on only one drum stand. I hang the cowbells on the back side of the stand, one high and one low. That way, one guy can play a traditional timbales setup, or he can just handle the shells while a second guy does the tuned cowbell bit on the back side.
Like with their compact conga/quero setup, it's an excellent piece of equipment with one minor flaw. It's well worth the effort to overcome that to add a lot of Latin color to your sound, without a lot of weight and space overhead.
I love this product from LP. The quality is great, and does exactly what I need it to do. I was about to go all out and buy a set of rack toms mounted to a stand, but I was interested to hear these first. I was really amazed, and decided to give these a try before spending $400 dollars on toms. You really can't go wrong. I love these more than a set of toms. They give my music more of a distinct sound, and they really help to liven it up. I love to use them as if they were toms, and I've had no problems with the actual mounting hardware. Like I've said, you can't go wrong with a set of these. You'll love them as an addition to your drumset.
