I recently purchased these congas, they have a great tone, and a great feel when your grooving along. the quality is really great too, the rounded rims dont hurt your hands, and the stand is great. (although there is a slight bit of wobbling.) the bongos however, are amazing. we had this set at school, and they were played everyday, continuously, and they held up great. i think any beginner percussionist should purchase this set.
The quinto and conga are one inch smaller in diameter than most congas, which makes them a bit easier to lug around since they are a little smaller. If you compare them soundwise to a pro set of congas you will notice that the tones aren't as warm and the slap is less distinctive, BUT if you rehead them with real skin they sound great, and you will end up with great sounding easy to transport conga set for 1/3 of the price of a pro set. Find a drummer in your area that knows how to soak and stretch a real skin. I taught myself with snippets from the internet and I found it easy.
I have this whole setup (congas/bongos) and I just played my first gig with them. For the money, they sound amazing. I'm sure with better heads the sound will improve. They don't sound bad at all, whatsoever, but when compared to pro sets, as somone else mentioned below, the slap is very distinctive and open hits are warm.. overall, you can't beat this setup. Affordable yet great sounding. Plus it comes with the stand and bongos... can't beat that with a stick!
