Function and form, this is the end all set to be beaten! The KPM4 was a test to see how KUSTOM monitors and PA's performed; It was sitting in a room full of 15" subs and overpriced gear. (I've never thought of KUSTOM as a viable, reliable company, and the KPM4 changed my mind!) (Check out the PW50 as well, it's just as good, but a little more in the package. This is more of an extension, but I use it as I wish..) I demoed this unit, listening to some classic rock on it and was amazed at the output. Zero line noise when it should have been there from an unbalanced source. It event had zero distortion in the output beyond halfway to ? max volume. The response was stout and yet, it's so small and PORTABLE... I'm now building my acoustic & mobile recording rig from all KUSTOM active cabinets. While I praise the KPM4, I just found out about the PW50, with dual 4.5" and a high 3.5 piezo driver. It has 3 inputs, crossover, and lower response by a marginal amount. I am getting two of those as well. (Before you toss your head up, Kurt Cobain even played off of his Crest PA amp to keep it simple!) On a side note, I will be using the KPM4 (plus two PW50 daisy chained for gigging & recording rough in) as a acoustic practice amp and doing so with an acoustic preamp. For giggles, I'll also attempt to run my Fender directly without an amp. I will be using a SANSAMP PARA DRIVER to balance the line and throw some dirt onto the channel. Then I'll will use the SANSAMP Classic and pass it through my PARA DRIVER to replicate cabinets. Then I'll review again as an update! (I was in need of a studio monitor set, but I'm not the kind of guy to break for that kind of cash. They cost way too much and at the end of the day, you're stuck with a paper coned woofer that began dieing the day you purchased it. Don't even think about gigging with your 600 dollar studio monitors... they were never made for that kind of abuse. Not to mention the laughter...) Sorry for a long review, but discovering something 3 times as useful to myself is something worth mentioning. Take care and good luck!

I have a couple of Kustom PA50 speakers, which sound surprisingly good and are a tremendous value, with a lot of features for the money. I've used them as monitors and they work well, but I bought this because it's smaller and can be mounted on a mic stand.
This product is done in by the failure to include any kind of eq to tame the absurdly loud tweeter. The first time I used it I fought dog-whistle feedback all night, and finally just turned it off. Since most small mixers don't have any kind of eq on their auxiliary sends, you get what you get, and if that's not usable, them's the breaks. A treble roll-off or even a pad switch on the tweeter would have helped to get more gain before feedback. Also, a handle doesn't seem too much to ask. The description on the web site says it has one but nope....

Since you can get the PA50 for the same price, and get two mic preamps, with 2-band eq on each, a stereo input for a phone or ipod, with a comparable amount of power, and two speakers rather than one, you just have to wonder how they come up with their price points.

Great with my POD HD 500

By Jimmy Dominy

Comments about Kustom PA KPM4 50W 4" 2-way Compact Powered Monitor:

Bought this little monitor as a portable personal monitor for use when my POD HD 500 is going direct to front of house and I'm not using in-ear monitors. This little guy is plenty loud in small to medium settings and gives an excellent representation of how my rig is sounding in the mains.....less some of the bottom (it is, after-all, only a 4-1/2" speaker). Love the size and sound!

Plenty of Guts

By Ann Vest

from Louisville KY

Comments about Kustom PA KPM4 50W 4" 2-way Compact Powered Monitor:

Playing sax on a rock band makes it hard to hear yourself. This little dynamo has all the guts it takes to cut through. Played a couple of gigs without it and was lost. This monitor can cut through the fog with no problem with plenty left! Small enough to ride in a gym bag, but with enough power you would think you need a gear dolly!

Loud, but not what I expected

By April

from Texas

Comments about Kustom PA KPM4 50W 4" 2-way Compact Powered Monitor:

First let me say, I'm new to powered equipment and maybe I don't have it connected correctly for what I'm using it for. Having said that, I do small venue karaoke and I use a PW50 for the audience and I bought this little monitor to point toward the singer so they can hear themselves sing. The volume knob was turned super low, and the loudness was plenty, but mostly music and the vocals from the mic seemed to only come out of the PW50 instead of this unit??? In other words, the singer can hear the music but the vocals weren't coming through, or so little to not help in the way I had hoped. I'm going to try to connect the mic to this monitor, and see if that helps, but I need the vocals to come out on BOTH speakers, so I'm not sure if that will work. Regardless, this monitor is very sturdy, loud and the only thing I noticed was that if it got turned up too much it would lose clarity - but again I know I may not have connected it in the best way possible. I'm pretty sure the problems I'm having are not due to the device.

Comments about Kustom PA KPM4 50W 4" 2-way Compact Powered Monitor:

We needed another monitor but our amp could only handle a 4 ohm load min. Already were driving two 8 ohm monitors and a 16 ohm Hot Spot. The KPM4 works pretty well. My buddy who plays congas liked it and bought one. I needed something with a bit more volume and wound up buying a used Galaxy PA6S Hot Spot. Beware the mic input. It works but you can't get very loud. Works much better with a line input. Lack of a carrying handle makes moving it a pain. Gotta carry it like a football. I think it would work great in a lower volume setting like a church where you could set it up on a mic stand and leave it set up. Not real quick or easy to thread on / off a mic stand without dropping it.

Comments about Kustom PA KPM4 50W 4" 2-way Compact Powered Monitor:

I had bought a Harbinger M120 PA system from Guitar Center to use for an acoustic duo/trio. We realized that a monitor would be good. I went to GC and a knowledgeable assistant recommended that I buy one of these. He told me all I had to do was to go out the rca recording outputs using a double rca to single 1/4 inch patch cord to put into the line in on the KPM 4. It works great! Lots of power and clean. We have the option to daisy chain more if needed. This is a simple way to have a monitor when you are going low tech and light. Perfect for coffee houses or even small outdoor events like farmers markets where there is not a lot of crowd noise to contend with. I love it and have already recommended it to friends with similar situations.
