Small size, big tone

By Benson

from Hammond, IN

Comments about Krank Rev Jr Pro 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

For being such a small amp in physical size, the Krank Rev Jr 50 watt amp lets out some big tone. It's easily one of the most portable tube heads on the market nowadays, which is very convenient for players who don't want to break their backs carrying amp heads in and out of gigs every night. The Krank channel is pure metal heaven, rich with gain and versatile with the 3-band EQ and the mid-sweep. The sweep is a very convenient control, giving you the ability to go from ballsy scooped crunch to a thick midrange grind at the turn of a knob. The Kleen channel unfortunately leaves a little more to be desired, with only a 2-band EQ. That's not to say it can't give a nice clean sound, just don't expect Fender Twin kind of sparkle. The Ohm selector and voltage selector are very nice for ever-changing gig locations and for keeping power issues under control in practice spaces. Imagine stepping on stage with an adorable little stack, maybe 3 feet tall, with one of these as the head, and watching how people first react at how little it is. By the end of the night, with the tone and power you're putting out of this bad boy, those first reactions will take a complete 180. Of course, it may not be for everyone, but if you like heavy distortion without the heavy weight, check into this. You'll be surprised. NOTE: If you can, get the footswitch with it as well; it's a huge help for live applications.

small amp big sound

By Gary

Comments about Krank Rev Jr Pro 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Trust me this amp may look small but it rips and it gets loud. This is a Great amp if you don't have the space for a half stack but need to be able to keep up with a drummer at practice or club gig. It's also very flexible covering anything from classic rock plexi type tones to high gain shred, very cool amp.

Comments about Krank Rev Jr Pro 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Features - 4.5 because it doesn't include reverb. but there are 5 preamp tubes (2 for gain, 1 for clean, 1 for phase inverter, and 1 for FX loop) all Ruby 12AX7. Power Amps are Sovtex 5881. Nice simple footswitch for switching between channels. If you're a gain freak, the FX Loop you will want to have active even if you don't have any pedals, just plug cables into the send and return and push the button in and turn the knob to the desired extra gain. Sweep knob is a great feature for getting extra tonal options. Only think I wish is that the Presence and FX signal knobs were on the front rather than the back, but there just isn't enough room.Quality - build like a tank.Value - Better value than the full sized heads. Half the size, half the price, approximately half the wattage but that only equates out to about a 3-4 decibel difference so if you want a Krank, these Jr heads are the way to go.Overall - I bought this for playing live; it really isn't a bedroom practice amp (go 20 watts if that is what you want). It just sounds better and better the louder you turn it, and at bedroom volumes the gain and tone just aren't there, even with the FX Boost. This thing is small, but it is 50 tube watts and would easily push a full stack and has deafening volume. A lot of people criticize Kranks, but they need to be "Kranked" and you need to spend some time dialing it in and they sound awesome.

wrong default voltage

By shoelaceninja

from Aiken, SC

Comments about Krank Rev Jr Pro 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

before i review the amp i just have to say, when i received it, there was no manual, and no mention on the head itself which voltage to use. it arrived set on the wrong voltage, and was played for about 4 or 5 hours like that. the voltage switch is also really stiff so there is no possibility that it was switched while shipping.other than that, this amp is amazing. 50w is more than enough. i would recommend the 20w because i can't turn this up past 1 in my house without it being too loud. the sweep knob makes this amp. only gripe is there should be master amp volume on top of the channel volumes, and the foot switch input is on the front, which is not how it was pictured on here.
