Now with upgraded transformers and 6550 tubes in the power section, the Rev + packs a walloping 120W of power to produce an even bigger high gain sound than the original. The "Krank" channel features a 3-band EQ, volume, two footswitchable masters, gain, presence and parametric sweep control. The "Kleen" channel features a 3-band EQ, volume and a new "boost" button to add sparkle and drive. Other new features are an active effects loop. I?ve owned this amp for several months now and the only thing it?s got going for it is its clean channel. Its real warm and sparkling clear. One of the best I?ve ever heard on a high gain amp. Plus it comes with a boost feature which is a nice little add on. On the other hand the krank distortion channel is terrible. It?s flat and has no bottom end. It?s pretty much useless for me. I don?t see what style of music you could really use this for. It?s supposed to be versatile and yet it?s not at all. If you play metal stay far far far away from this head. Also an important note is that this head is made of cheap material. The transformers came to me bent which is a common issue among kranks because they have weak transformer tabs. And everything is a sticker on it!. A cheap sticker that wears away over a little time. Another big downfall is the head is wayyyyyyyyyy to overpriced. Im still beating myself up over paying this much. This was a pure impulse buy for me. I wrote this review to help people from making the same mistake I did.
I played this unit at my local music store and dialed it in for a half an hour and couldnt get a good solid distortion out of it. The clean channel was pretty nice though, but the krank channel as they call it, doesent really do anything for me. The distortion is a very light overdrive, with no bottom end and yes i did "krank" it up for all you krank fans who say you got to krank it up for the full potential. Overall this head is not the head for me. Everyone has their own opinions on what they like but this head doesent cut it for a rock or metal amp. This head is friggin expensive too. Couldnt see myself ever dishing out that kind of cash for such a unversatile moderate soft spoken amp. Plenty on the market of way better quality for nearly half the cost.
To Be Honest Krank makes really good amps, dont get me wrong, but like when i tryed one at guitar center it just didnt have the bite and the balls that id expect it too.
the Ibanez thermion i own has alot more balls and bite than it but it has alot more with the krank revoulution cab connected to it, id buy this amp if you really like that smooth distortion thats used in recording since its flat but thats my opinion, it really depends on what sound you want. but it is a good amp but dosent really fit my preferences.
