Following in the footsteps of the monotron, monotribe, and MS-20 Mini analog synthesizers, Korg announces the Volca series. Volca is a new lineup of EDM production tools. These powerful and fun-to-use true-analog devices deliver a diverse array of fat sounds that can be obtained only from an analog synthesizer. Each is also equipped with sequencing/recording capabilities for intuitively generating performances. Multiple volcas can be used in tandem via the vintage-style sync in/out, and with your favorite DAW software or MIDI keyboard via MIDI In. Battery operation and built-in speakers mean that you can conveniently play anywhere and anytime. These are the next-generation analog synthesizers, bringing you the ultimate sounds and grooves with ease and depth. Whether used together or by themselves, the volca series is poised to inject true analog power into any performance or studio setup!

Volca Keys is a long-awaited synthesizer that adds a new chapter to the long and storied history of Korg's analog synthesizers. This 27-key analog lead synth delivers unbelievably powerful sound in a compact body. Starting with a filter section that uses the circuitry of the legendary miniKORG700S (1974), it delivers astonishing sound that takes full advantage of Korg's half-century of know-how in circuit design.

With a simple structure that includes delay effect and a sequencer, it's also an ideal choice for a first analog synth. It offers the richly expressive sounds that are distinctive of analog, providing the enjoyment of simple yet deep sound-creation. The possibilities are endless; you can use the three oscillators to play chords, use them in unison with detune to produce solid lead lines, or apply ring modulation to create far-out metallic sounds.

Features
  • Three note true analogue synthesis
  • Voicing function lets anyone create sounds easily
  • Delay effect for even more sonic possibilitiesLoop sequencer lets you record phases just as you play them
  • Motion Sequencer records knob edits in real time
  • Active Step function and Flux function to add dynamic change to your sequences
  • Self-tuning function for constant, stable pitch

Comments about Korg Volca Keys Analog Synth Machine:

I was deeply impressed by the monotron series and I was fired up when korg engineered these improvenents on those rad ideas. those who love analog synths know that keeping the machines in tune is a task of Hercules- but volca keys, I understand, has a feature that keeps it in tune. the miniature keys are slightly less difficult to use than the teeny ribbon controller of the monotrons, but the small keys on the console are still smurf-like in nature. HOWEVER, one can link a midi keyboard to this bad boy and generate these cool sounds with far greater ease- korg was ingenious and kind for doing this. three note polyphony (well, sorta), awesome blip sounds and an intuitive sequencer are assets- the tiny keys, the limited scope of sounds and many incompatibilities with some midi controllers are liabilities. not every sound is a gem- my lady friend mistook one of my crations for the smoke alarm. I love my volca- we play keyboards due to our love of diverse sounds and the volca keys is an excellent component in any rig.

Comments about Korg Volca Keys Analog Synth Machine:

Really easy to use. Can use midi keyboard with it. Only complaint in that the output is an 1/8" headphone jack. A full 1/4" output would be great. Sounds is full, and there are a lot of options. Built in delay really helps.

Comments about Korg Volca Keys Analog Synth Machine:

I am a first time synth buyer. Every since I started to listen to The Birthday Massacre, my love and curiosity of the synthesizer has continually grown. I began to want to pick one up. Problem is that there is just so much to learn in regards to them. Not to mention how expensive they can be... Until now.

The Volca Keys is a fantastic first synth! You can create so many sounds with it it's unbelievable! Now don't mistake me here. I do not know a lot about all the bells and whistles, and terminology of synthesizers, nor do I pretend I'm an expert. I'm just really enthusiastic about them. There's not much I can complain about with this particular synthesizer. The price is fantastic. It's easy to use and experiment with. It has definitely made me more familiar with all of the functions, and the way each part affects the overall sound, etc.Portability is awesome!
If there is one thing that I wish was different about this, it would be the capability of layering sequences, and playing on top of running patterns. As far as I know, it can't do either of those. All in all this is a marvelous synth. In fact I like it so much so that I'm saving up to buy the bass and beats as well. I think that would take my passion to learn more about synthesizers and my ability to create the type of music I want to to a whole other level.
So, If you're a first time synthesizer buyer, I would highly recommend getting this. You will not be disappointed with what this synth will teach you!

Comments about Korg Volca Keys Analog Synth Machine:

Great synth in the spirit of the VCS3, reminiscent of the sounds from Dark Side of the Moon, Who's Next, even "Frankenstein".

The integrated keyboard is a little small for my fingers but it's easy enough to put together a sequence. For fancier playing, just plug it into a MIDI keyboard.

Responds well to external sequencers and MIDI controllers.

A very tasty synth for the price.

Comments about Korg Volca Keys Analog Synth Machine:

This device mimics the synths of long ago. Love tweaking the knobs for sounds the world has never heard. The midi interface works fine. Only wish there was a line out in addition to the headphone jack, which requires a pre-amp to the mixer. The sequencer records knob tweaks as well.

Korg just raised the bar on everyone!

        By Kevin Kennedy

        from Ohio

Comments about Korg Volca Keys Analog Synth Machine:

After waiting what seemed like 6 months to finally get my hands on one, I got my Korg Volca Keys about 2 weeks ago. It's packaged in a kind-of hard to open box (sealed rather tightly and secure). After opening, putting in the included batteries (YES!) and using the attached cable to sync it with my Korg Monotribe, the two hours of non-stop fun began. This IS NOT A TOY. It is small, yes...but even with its simple and fairly straightforward synthesis-its a great little analogue synth that has a built-in delay unit (which is also tempo-syncable). It saves up to 8 sequences (with knob tweaks!) and as a person with big hands, all the knobs are fairly easy to grab. Within about 30 minutes, I felt like I had a great handle on this box. Korg is doing what Roland should have done-reaching back into the archives and create something a bit new, with some older analogue architecture. At $149 you get a midi and sync capable machine with a nice step sequencer...and if you haven't listened to it-youtube is your friend. I will not describe its sound here, just to say that it is expressive enough that I'm able to make it sound like me. So, buy one...before you can't. Because the Volca series is about as exciting as it gets for under $200.
