Overview

The first-generation Pandora, which appeared in 1995, was a revolutionary product that packed an amazing amount of functionality into a unit the size of a cassette tape, overturning all expectations of multi-effect units. Subsequently, it has continued to evolve to meet the needs of a wide range of users, adding "REMS" modeling technology and enhanced rhythm functionality. Now in 2013, the latest unit in the Pandora Series is a stomp-box type unit.

Although it looks like a compact effect unit in a die-cast body, it's actually a multi-effect unit that contains 158 types of modeling effects; seven of which, you can use simultaneously. Two hundred preset programs include many well-known signature sounds as well as 100 rhythm patterns that cover a diverse range of styles. There's also an auto tuner with an eye-catching LED meter that's easy to read. You can also enjoy jam sessions by connecting your MP3 player to the AUX input, which provides a +/-1 octave pitch shift function. The freely downloadable PC editor/librarian makes it easy to create and manage sounds. Whether used on its own, or alongside your pedal board, the Pandora Stomp delivers exactly what you need for practice and recording at home or on stage.

Features
  • 158 types of amps
  • Use up to seven types of effects simultaneously
  • REMS technology
  • 200 Preset programs plus 200 editable user programs

I purchased this because I play in a working band that does shows for weddings/corporate events/festivals, etc. I also run sound for the band and I usually do not use an amplifier on stage. So, I'm always looking for ways to have good sound with minimal equipment. I own a Pandora 4XB which worked alright until the plastic pieces broke and now it sits in the rehearsal studio. For live work, I usually switch between a BDDI, VTBass or go direct to the board. I heard about the Pandora Stomp and decided to give it a try. Immediately, I liked the fact that it is a metal case. Crucial for live work IMO. The Stomp has both guitar and bass presets in it. Obviously, it has more guitar presets than bass presets. As a bassist, that doesn't really bother me because with my Pandora 4XB, that had numerous effects I never used anyway. I use generally two different sounds for live work. The Stomp allows me to create 4 different presets that I can switch simply by pressing the metal button. So, I created 4 I would use. I will say though, the preset sounds it comes with definitely need some editing. Go to the Korg website and download the editor. Very easy to use and setup sounds you want. Once I did that, I was pretty happy with my 4 sounds. I used it last night at the gig for the first time, and it worked flawlessly. Big, easy to read tuner, all four presets switched quickly and efficiently. If you are a heavy effect user, I can't say how this would work for you because that's not how I use mine. But for a compact sound generator for my bass, I'm pretty happy with it. FYI, if you're going to use it for live work, invest in an AC adaptor. 9volts are expensive and prone to fail when you don't want them too. I use the Stomp with my One Spot and had no problems.

I've had the Korg Pandora Stomp for over a week and i almost sent it back twice but it's still here. There's much to recommend, and still room for improvement but Korg has put a lot into a small inexpensive unit. I wanted a single stomp box for all effects that would allow me to create sounds with my computer, and store them on a small footprint and of the two choices i found i tried the Korg. I've been using Guitar Rig and my computer for years, but i wanted to get the computer out of the live rig while maintaining the amount of sound tailoring and flexibility the computer allows me. The Korg's Sound Editor program is no Guitar Rig. In fact i think partnering with Guitar Rig or Amplitube would be the perfect marriage for this thing. The Sound Editor program is possible the Korg's weakest link. The sounds are passable, never great, and i'm always wishing there was one more adjustment i could make. You can't re-arrange the signal chain - it's Dynamics/Amp/Cabinet/Mod/Delay/Reverb/NR/Level. I'd love to see a final stage EQ or preamp, but it's not there. And if you use Dynamics to set, say a pickup type, or wah setting, you have no compression because you've used up your Dynamics choice. So i tweak, and settle. Same with the foot switch. There are 3 choices: 1) Turns on a selected patch. 2) Toggles thru 4 selected Patches that were assigned to the 4 A/B/C/D buttons and 3) Toggles thru 10 patches selected in any one of the 4 A/B/C/D buttons. There's no way to go to the previous patch without dialing it up on the unit. There's no way to toggle a single effect within your patch for a solo boost. Again i am tweaking and settling and finding a way to make it work. On the other hand there's the reason i haven't sent it back. It's powered by any of 3 choices Battery/USB/AC adapter (not included), it weighs 1 pound, it's the size of a small stomp box, and i can program 200 of my own sounds and slip it into a gig bag. So it's still here and i'm tweaking.

Use ac/9vdc power supply with this unit.

Comments about Korg Pandora Stomp Multi Effect Processor/Tuner:

The Pandora Stomp box works fine with the proper 9vdc power supply but a 9v battery doesn't work well and the one Korg supplied was dead on arrival. I tried a couple of other new batteries and got varying sound. The wall-wart 9vdc supply eliminated that problem and the Pandora provided the sounds and tuner that I wanted.

Comments about Korg Pandora Stomp Multi Effect Processor/Tuner:

I like the floor pedal version of this Korg Pandora, it's basically the same as the Korg Mini-Pandora effects box. I won't use the unit battery-powered but I have plenty of wall-warts that match the power needed.

I've had a Pandora for quite awhile and like the amp simulations and effects. But I really bought this one so I could switch back and forth between effects and the versatile large character tuner as a pedal option (easy to see without reading glasses from the stage!).

You get a lot in this well made effect peddle!
Inline Tuner, Drum rhythms/metronome, Effects(all customizable), and personal amp. It's worth every penny!
I've just spent a couple hours with this unit and had a blast. I simply plugged in my guitar and headphones in the back and jammed away. Both my bass and Strat sounded great through it. The tuner is very nice to use, simply hit the foot switch. The drums/metronome is great for everyone to practice with. The effects are pretty nice. Sound is not perfect, but you can adjust everything to get the sound you like. A nice surprise that isn't mentioned is that you don't need an amp. With the headphone jack and volume control on the back, you just plug your guitar in and go!!!
Thanks Musicians Friend for getting this to me in < 3 business days for FREE, and a great deal to boot. Fantastic service as always. You're the best!

Nice Pedal But Wish Software Was Better

Comments about Korg Pandora Stomp Multi Effect Processor/Tuner:

I was looking for something light and portable that I could take with me to practice anywere. I have been using a Zoom G3, but ran across this little multi pedal by Korg. Thought I would give it a try. Let me start by saying that I do love this pedal. You get 200 patches and tons of effects. The pedal is rugged enough to withstand lots of drops, which you would expect from Korg. It has a headphone jack, so you can practice without an amp. It also has an aux in that lets you plug in your mp3 player or other device to jam along with tracks. The sound modeling is very good in my opinion. Some reviewers comment on the hiss/noise of some patches, but they faithfully modeled the old gear which does hiss like that. Listen to the recording of Stairway to Heaven and you can hear the hiss in the background coming from Page's setup. I think we could do without that accuracy, but purists seem to like it. Can't fault Korg for being accurate. The menus are fairly easy to scroll though. One of the thing I like is that you can choose to have the foot switch scroll though either the 4 programmable buttons on the front, or the first 10 patches. This is very useful if you plan on using the pedal to gig with. You can set a very limited number of patches and not have to scroll through all 200 with the little side wheel. Pressing and holding the foot switch in these modes still gets you into bypass/tuner. Where this pedal falls short is in the supporting software. I wanted to reorder the patches to organize them to my liking. I downloaded Korg's editor software. I found the font really hard to read and it took considerable effort to rewrite the patches on the pedal. It doesn't have a drag and drop ability to reorder the patches the way the Zoom editor software does. The whole thing felt very uninspired, as if someone at Korg realized they needed an editor program at the last minute and just threw something together. Too bad, but not a deal breaker since you won't be editing much once you have the pedal set up to your liking. By comparison, Zoom also allows you to download and share patches. This isn't really an option with the Korg pedal. The other downside was using the pedal to record to my computer. With the Zoom, it was just a case of plugging in the USB and my Audacity software recognized the pedal instantly. With the Korg pedal, the USB doesn't allow you to record to the computer. I was able to plug the pedal into the mic jack on my PC and instruct my sound card to recognize it as a line in, which worked fine. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't have a dedicated mic jack, so recording to my laptop has been a challenge. The only real method was to purchase a USB interface - such as the one made by Behringer (Guitar Link UCG102). But overall, a very good product and I'm more than happy with my $90 investment. I even think this could find a home on my pedalboard, as it will add a lot of versatility to my rig for very little cost.

Comments about Korg Pandora Stomp Multi Effect Processor/Tuner:

There are deep distortion tones in this solid state device that rival the dual rectifier. Try out the "Trooper" and "Slipnot" (without the "k") settings. You can tweak these sounds to your liking. I have the guitar pocket amp version and just ran it through a Klipsch iPod speaker and this thing is sick. It is comparable to my Hughes & Kettner Attax tube preamp and that is difficult to achieve.

While this pedal does offer a wide variety of classic tones and effects it's major drawback is a lack of control over the parameters of the effects. That aside, the tones range from warm and glassy cleans to punchy and focused drives/distortions.The bypass/tuner function is handy and as reliable as all Korg tuners. All in all it makes for a convenient way to simplify a pedalboard.
