Overview

The Korg Pa50 Professional Arranger combines enhanced sequencing functions, powerful performance features, custom backlit LCD, comprehensive arranging tools and impeccable sound quality.

Based on the TRITON synth engine the Pa50 Arranger's sound quality is second to none! Included with its 660 editable sound programs is a set of very expressive solo instruments, sampled with a natural vibrato. 4 studio-quality effect processors are available and feature 89 different effect types. 4 assignable pads, an assignable footswitch, the joystick, sync start, fade in and out, tap tempo, accompaniment reset and other front panel functions are available at your fingertips.

Musical Styles

Each of the 304 editable Styles available with this Korg keyboard arranger provides up to 8 accompaniment parts”drums, bass, percussion and more”that respond interactively with your playing. 8 parts, 4 Variations, 2 Fills, 2 Intros and 2 Endings per Style provide all you need to create a natural-sounding performance. In addition to the 8 parts that comprise a Style, up to 4 sounds are available on the keyboard as real-time parts. The Korg Pa50 can also store 160 user defined Performance settings, each instantly recalling the style, sounds, effects, panning, transposition and other settings assigned to each part.

Extensive Sequencing

In addition to traditional realtime and step-time sequencing, the Korg Pa50 Pro also features a unique Backing Sequencer, which can capture up to 8 tracks of Style accompaniment and up to 8 tracks of realtime playing in a single pass. The PA50 Arranger is GM and SMF compatible and in performance, nothing beats the revolutionary XDS Dual Sequencer. Lyrics embedded in SMF sequences are shown in the Display.

Comments about Korg Pa50 Professional Arranger:

As a one man band entertainer and band musician, this is my review. PROS ---- Triton sound boad arranger for $999.You could never get a Korg ARRANGER for this price, thanks CHINA for this. 1. All triton programs be loaded(minus EFX ofcourse),edited with same synth engine, manipulated in realtime with(4 way joystick) and a slider. 2.ALL styles can be rewritten and more styles(>300) than competition.(don't have to stuck with ROM) 3.Dual seq(can crossfade ,stop ,play, rew)while mixing 2 SMFs. 4.True sequencer(with workstaion memory-200,000 events) 5.workstation quality synth editing power 6.Lighter than Pa 80 7.Better overall sound than competition(punchier drums and more LIVE sound in the styles)(cripsier than both Roland and Yamaha - thanks for sampling at 48KHz). 8.Can write user styles 9.Has Triton map so no problem with your DAW(all of them support triton-which is one of the industry standards). CONS ---- 1.Floppy Drive(do I need to mention more ?for a 2005 KB) 2.Hard OS with not great display 3.Unlike Triton(classic) only 4 simu EFX and no master EQ 4.Pads only do single sounds(can not write loops like PAx series) 5.Style writing and sequencing limited by display and OS 6.Keys not great 7.Yes ,bad fills goes on and on(unrelated or over orchestrated for the style) 8.Inconsistant hardware(especially the keys)9.Over orchestrated styles in general ( also they should put more or 8 beats than waltz or pokas) CONCLUSION --------------------- Pa50 is a copy of PA80(sells for $1600-$2100,made in Italy)(minus HD,no after touch, video out sampling option etc)and is lighter.Overall,it sounds better than mid PSR range(both 1500 and 3000 - except for guitar, saxes and ofcourse acoustic piano).Dual seq function is ruined by FD(it'll be great if it can accept HD like PA60 or 80),Display is not well thought(makes harder OS). But overall it's a great value. You can use it in both Band and occational OMB(one mand band)situation, and also in studio with great results,But if you want to use exclusively for OMB ,I would add $500 and go for PSR3000. But for $999 let's see our options. YAMAHA PSR 1500(great styles, has SM card input and USB to device features, better fills, more intros/ending with physical buttons, better OS and more informative display, not to mention tons of free 3rd party styles),Downside -- Can't use in a Band situation, the sounds in general ,can't compare to PA50 with few exceptions),Hardware - also not so great,no real sequencer and don't have synth editing power like PA. ROLAND EXR7 series - better keys(and more -76) that both Korg and yamaha, better piano sound, downside : you don't want to know-2 variations and CAN"T write user styles! For $999 ,there is no other choice, unless you want to save up for new PA800( around $ 2500)(comes with sampler and TC Vocal Harmony Board, etc). But for $999,it's a winner, and thanks KORG for selling a pro arranger with this price. Peace. JAMMAN
