With 37 keys and 128 user-rewritable programs, the Korg MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder is perfect for the musician looking for a serious yet affordable synthesizer. It provides powerful synthesis with the same dual-oscillator DSP synthesis engine found in the MS2000, and offers a wider selection of waveforms than most other modeled synths. It also has an 8-band vocoder with many advanced features, a full range of effects, and a flexible arpeggiator. 2 audio inputs let you process other instruments through it. Also serves as a compact MIDI controller. Comes with its own microphone.
The microKORG boasts the same dual-oscillator DSP synthesis engine found in Korg's critically acclaimed MS2000 and offers a wider selection of waveforms than any other modeled synth. Oscillator 1 features a total of 71 waveforms. These include traditional analog waves like saw, pulse, sine and noise, plus more unique choices like Vox wave and cross wave. Together they provide a cool selection that can be modulated to produce an extensive range of timbres. In addition, 64 exclusive DWGS waveforms from Korg's classic DW-8000 enable the microKORG to reproduce a broad collection of imitative sounds. Sounds like bells, electric pianos, guitars, basses and more that would be difficult reproduce on an analog synthesizer. You can also apply Ring and Sync modulation from Oscillator 2 to create the kind of complex timbres that are the true sign of an advanced synthesizer.
Four filter modes are available, offering -12 dB (2-pole) low pass, high pass and band pass configurations plus an extra steep -24 dB (4-pole) low pass setting. All include resonance. Two classic ADSR envelope generators and two MIDI-syncable LFOs provide the power to shape your sounds. Add a Virtual Patch matrix that lets you create advanced modulation settings-routing the Mod Wheel to control filter cutoff or pulse width, using an LFO to control panning or amp level, etc.-and you have performance that is unheard of from a synthesizer in this price range!
The microKORG includes an 8-band vocoder with many advanced features. You can capture and "freeze" the formants of your voice, and then play it across the keyboard, or shift the formant frequency to make your voice sound male, female, like a child or just plain wacky! Best of all, the microKORG comes with its own microphone so you can start having fun right away.
A full range of effects
Three types of modulation effects (chorus/flanger, phaser, ensemble), three types of delay effects (stereo, cross, L/R), and a two-band equalizer add the finishing touch to the microKORG. The delays can be synchronized with the arpeggiator or to an external MIDI clock-a great feature for live performances or for laying down tracks. All effects can be edited to create your own, unique sounds.
Great sounds and expression
Korg has used all of the microKorg's synthesis power in the creation of 128 great-sounding presets. They cover a wide range of the latest musical styles plus many vintage favorites. Sixteen vocoder Programs are also included. The Pitch Bend wheel, Modulation wheel, and five other knobs provide flexible realtime control over filter cutoff, attack, release and other important parameters. The Edit Mode allows you to fully edit the existing sounds, or to create your own new ones.
Six types of arpeggio patterns (UP, DOWN, ALT1/2, Random, Trigger) are built in, with control over tempo, gate time, swing, and up to a 4-octave range. You can turn individual steps on or off within a pattern, providing the feel and functionality of a step sequencer.
Two external audio input jacks are provided, so you can run other instruments, CDs and more through the microKORG's filter and effects, allowing you to process sounds in truly creative ways.
A compact MIDI controller
The microKORG's compact size is perfect for the musician or DJ looking to add a synth to his or her setup when space is tight. It's also a great choice for use in a computer-based music setup. The five realtime knobs on the front panel can transmit MIDI messages (control changes), so they can be used as controllers for software synthesizers. Use the 37-note velocity-sensitive mini-keyboard for controlling other gear or for recording and editing with your sequencer. And thanks to battery-power, the microKORG is the ultimate portable controller when used with a laptop computer!
Clear control and classic looks
There's no complex menu structure-all parameters are located on the panel for easy access to any function. A large dial and LED illuminated buttons provide easy program selection even on a dark stage. With its beige-gold body, wooden side panels and retro-influenced design, the microKORG has a look that's both vintage and funky.

This was the very first synthesizer that I ever purchased, and man, am I glad I chose this one. I use it in a two-tier setup with a Korg x50. Not only does it have a large array of sounds (both retro and modern), but you can also create your own sounds, edit the preset ones, download a new sound bank off of Korg's website, etc.... Honestly, this keyboard can really do just about everything you could want it to. It is powerful for its size, it has MIDI input/output for easy recording, and even though it has nothing to do with its performance, the fake wood panelling on it's sides are just so incredibly charming. If I had one complaint, it would be that with some settings, you can only play one note at a time, which can be frustrating if you like the sound, but want to include chords into the piece. But only a few settings out of the 100+ are this way, so I see that as a very minor thing. I would highly recommend this synth.
I can tell you first hand, as a seasoned musician who's played all kind of keyboards, from the best to the worst, this device is worth it's weight in gold, and is 2nd to none in it's musical class. I have not been paid to do this and I'm not the type that writes reviews for anything. This actually goes to show exactly how impressed I am with this products performance. Don't delay buy this today and you will not want to put it down. Guaranteed.
I bought a Microkorg about 2 moths ago just as something to take with me on flights and stuff but it's turned out to be my favorite synth besides my Moog Voyager! It really sounds just like an analog synthesizer, Theres really no sound you could not make with this keyboard. All of the retrosynth patches are really nice. I must say as well it sounds AMAZING in unison with a saw and a square wave on each oscillator with the filter wide open and a little detuning. Very heavy sounding synth. I would encourage even the most experienced synthesists to buy this thing. Does sound quite a bit like a Moog which is really awesome considering its so inexpensive. Very awesome synth!!!
I bought this synth to play a few things but when you learn how to use the appasiator it opens a whole new world of synth playing
This synth blew my mind away after I seen the size of it. The sound and performance matches that of more expensive and larger products without doubt. I bought the MicroKorg specifically for my talk box, but after watching a couple YouTube videos and reading the manual, I've actually found more uses than what I originally planned or suspected. If youۡre looking for a big bang for your buck out of a smaller less expensive package, this is the way to go!
the microkorg is a great synth for little price. i just tried it today, IT WILL BE MINE! there was an amazing amount of effects & the vocoder was awesome. the keys werent too tiny but dont get this if you have abnormally large hands(-: the only possible comlaint anyone can nhave is that it was alitle difficult to use effects wise. you would probbably have to read the manual first because there is allot of effects, ALLOT! wether you are beginer or vetran, it is always a good investment, it WILL, be mine
For about a year, I have looked at different types of synthesizers, having a hard time deciding. Once I got the MicroKORG, I was amazed at all the sounds you can create. With easy access to a pitch change and great customization, this synth is great for everyone, even someone like me who knows very little about synth. I highly recommend this product to all who are considering purchasing it.
Bought this beautiful instrument a few weeks back and just can't stop playing with it!!! So many ways you can use it, the possibilities are endless as are the ways you can tweak the sounds. Its very easy to learn how to edit sounds despite how complicated it looks. I compared this KORG with other KORGS and they don't even come close. If you hate playing cheap hollow plastic feeling keyboards/synths there are no worries here. All the knobs and keys are tight, no unwanted wiggles. Also I've seen quite a few professional musicians using this synth. If you want a taste of what its capable of, listen to the band "The Antlers". The keyboard player uses this synth almost exclusively. Also if your into the retro/vintage looking instruments, this is for you...I mean c'mon, it has wood sides!!! It sounds great out of tube amps especially (as do all instruments), but I use a Fender Mini Twin-Amp for it for portability and its equally as good. So in closing, as hard as I try, I can't think of a single thing that I don't like on it! Play it and you will fall in love. Plays: Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Piano, Viola, Melodica, Mandolin, Drums Genre: Indie/Rock/Pop/Folk
I love this little synth, I've had mine for years and it just keeps performing and performing. It's been through many shows and always ends back in my studio being used constantly. Patch A13 and A14 are the infamous patches that will sound good with virtually and application. With all the different genres I make this synth never lets me down. If you're looking into buying it, just buy it. You won't regret, the guys at Korg never lets you down.
The micro korg was exactly what I was looking for, I like to get a non generic unique style and sound and purchasing the korg was probably the best thing I've ever done
