Overview

KingKORG is the full-fledged analog modeling synthesizer that musicians have been waiting for. It carries on the design philosophy of classic Korg analog synthesizers while retaining all of the conveniences of a modern keyboard instrument. This exciting, hands-on synth can model a huge variety of oscillators, plus a library of filters from sought-after vintage synthesizers. It particularly shines on stage, not only with its great sound, but also quite literally with a gorgeous champagne gold finish befitting its royal name.

Powerful oscillators that are both understandable to the beginner and satisfying for the expert
KingKORG features a 3-oscillator x 2-timbre design that allows you to generate thick and rich sounds, plus a newly developed XMT modeling sound engine. XMT (Xpanded Modeling Technology) is proprietary Korg technology that was created in order to produce a broad range of sonic variations while keeping operation simple. In a conventional synthesizer, the sound-creating process requires you to adjust the oscillator settings one by one, making it difficult to see the overall picture. In contrast, KingKORG provides pre-set algorithms that contain combinations of various types and numbers of oscillators, letting you easily and quickly sculpt stage-ready sounds. The wide range of oscillator algorithms includes the choices you'd expect from an analog synthesizer-sawtooth wave, square wave, and noise-in addition to numerous PCM/DWGS algorithms, giving you plenty of scope choices for creating highly personal sounds.

Modeling filters that reproduce the sound of classic instruments
Extreme attention was paid to the filter section, which is crucial to a synthesizer's character. A diverse variety of filters is a unique advantage of analog modeling, and KingKORG's filters add unparalleled flexibility. In addition to a variety of essential analog modeling filter types, you get faithful models of filters that reproduce the analog monophonic synths used for lead and bass in the '70s, the polyphonic synths used in new wave music of the '80s, and the filters of Korg's classic MS-20 analog synth. These filters can also be made to self-oscillate by raising the resonance setting- a unique capability of analog synthesizers.

Three master effects, each with six effect types, add the finishing touch to your sound
KingKORG provides three master effect sections, each giving you a choice of six effect types: PRE FX, with types such as distortion and amp simulator; MOD FX, with classic effects like phaser, chorus, and tremolo; and REV/DELAY, with ambience effects such as hall reverb and modulation delay. Each effect processor has a dedicated front panel dial that selects the effect type. To choose the ideal effect type, simply turn the dial to hear the result, and use the FX control knobs located below these dials to adjust the effect as desired.

Vacuum tube driver circuit adds rich overtones and powerful distortion
KingKORG provides a full-analog vacuum tube driver circuit as a mastering effect. You can use it to add warm fullness, a powerful overdrive, or anything in between.

Vocoder function
The built-in vocoder uses audio from the onboard mic input to modify the sound, creating an effect as though the synthesizer were talking. The vocoder features Formant Shift to dramatically modify the tonal character, as well as Formant Hold, which allows you to "freeze" a vowel sound and play it back using the keys. Thanks to the KingKORG's dual-timbre architecture, you can even combine the vocoder with another timbre, either as a complementing sound or a modulation source.

Virtual patch function
On many classic synthesizers (such as the MS-20), the signal flow could be reconfigured using patch cables to physically connect one element to another. KingKORG reproduces this function with an intuitive Virtual Patch system. With six Virtual Patch assignments per timbre, control signals such as EG, LFO, or joystick movement can be virtually connected to sound parameters such as pitch or cutoff, allowing you to modulate a parameter for even greater sound-shaping possibilities.

Step arpeggiator function
The step arpeggiator automatically generates an arpeggiated phrase (broken chord) according to the chord you hold on the keyboard. You can choose from six arpeggio types, and specify the duration, interval, and on/off status of each step to enjoy a wide variety of performance possibilities.

Comments about KingKorg 61-Key Analog Modeling Synthesizer:

I have been looking for a worthy successor to my trusty MS-2000 for many years. I almost broke down and got a Gaia (good in its own right), but was very happily surprised by the tones the KingKorg can muster! Being of the DW6000/8000 generation, I have always had a place in my setup for the DWGS sound; happily this fits that bill. In addition, this 'board sounds great as a VA synth as well. It's saw and square-wave sounds rock! Great for solos... and fat pads as well. The many destinations available within each sound guarantee movement in your tone. Easy to program basically; and when you're ready, can get much deeper in sound design. I highly recommend this synth. Originally, I was down to choosing between the Studiologic Sledge (with it's wavetables), and the KingKorg (with its DWFS waves); but after hearing them, I came down on Korg's side. Don't be fooled by people complaining about the action (yes, light; but very slick and responsive) and the lack of one-knob-per-function (yah, cool; but still very light on menu-diving); it's the sound that should drive you.

      Avoid this Keyboard

      By Getty Lee Imitator

      from Rhode Island

Comments about KingKorg 61-Key Analog Modeling Synthesizer:

      The pros:
      -Looks sexy
      -Has friendly analog controls
-Has some sounds that can get the job done live.
-Onboard filter good but not as good as Nord, Roland Gaia, Motif, or Roland FA06, and not even close to a Moog.
      --------------------------------------------------
      The Cons:
-No Mp3 Audio input, (XLR Connector will not accept audio. Therefore no play along like most units
-PCM sounds silly. Piano like a 20 year old sample,
-Keyboard Action flimsy. Not as nice as Triton, or M3.
-Way over priced. See internet reviews. Many agree.

The BEST analogue synth keyboard on the market!!

      By neal van

      from Port Richey, FL

Comments about KingKorg 61-Key Analog Modeling Synthesizer:

If you need or ever wanted to have all the top analogue keyboards starting all the way back with the Mini Moog, up thru the Prophet 5, Korg's own Poly 6/61, to the Mellotron, to the Yamaha DX7, all any other great keyboard you can think like the Roland D50. All those sounds are in this keyboard with exacting detail. It's very hands on friendly for performance enhancement in the fly, plus very extensive and intuitive deep editing of the full load of six independent oscillators. It does take a bit of getting used to, especially if you are using it in a rig as complex as mine and need tons of it's MIDI functions. It's well worth the time getting familiar with it and the users manual is written exceptionally well. It has tons of awesome sounds programmed in right out of the box like the Opening Taurus pedal sound for the song Tom Sawyer. The exact keyboard sound used by Edgar Winter in Frankenstein including the oscillators changing while falling that leads into the dueling keys/drums section. You even have the filter knob physically there to be able to perform with it as Winter did. These are just a couple right out if the box. It's an awesome keyboard for the price and has tons of features for sequencing and arpeggiating in ARP mode latched or unlatched. And the functionality keeps going on and on. My only negative thing I've found with this board is an unusual quirk I have with this board is that via MIDI, the board is split in half, like two very large banks of 100 patches each. And if I want a sound that is in bank "A" for example, and I'm currently in bank "B". The unit will not go to patch 1 from patch 101 and vice versa. I just have to hit any patch bitten before I change MIDI patches so it will call up the patch I want if in opposing banks. In conclusion, for those seeking all the best classic sounds, plus several vocoders, plus tons of very realistic drum kits, performance and deep editing, plus the tube overdrive of the built in AX-7 preamp tube which really livens up most any patch depending on how you use it. To sweeten and warm, or overdrive and scream. It's all here in this keyboard for a terrific new price. AD so,e switches and expression pedals and you've got a heck of a workhorse for your shows!!
