Overview

The Korg CA-40 Electronic Chromatic Tuner has wide range that covers A0 (27.50 Hz) - C8 (4186.01 Hz), you can tune a variety of instruments with the Korg CA-40, including wind, string, and keyboard instruments. The pitch and range are detected quickly and accurately. You can use the built-in high-sensitivity microphone to detect the pitch of an acoustic instrument without the need for any other equipment. Alternatively, you can use the separately sold CM-100 contact microphone to send the vibration of the instrument directly to the tuner, so that you can tune accurately without worrying about other sounds in the environment. An output jack (bypass) has been added to this digital tuner, making it easy to check the tuning even while you perform.

Conveniently thin and compact The pocket-sized CA-40 features a refined design with a stand on the back that lets you place this digital tuner on any surface.

Large, high-precision LCD meter
The CA-40's display has been enlarged for even clearer visibility. In addition to providing both the accuracy of an LCD and the easy viewing of a needle-style meter, red and green LEDs are also provided to indicate pitch deviations, making tuning smooth and easy.

Sound Out function
In addition to letting you tune visually using the meter, this digital tuner provides a Sound Out function that plays a reference tone through the internal speaker, allowing you to tune by ear. You can adjust the reference tone in semitone steps over a range of C4 through C5 (one octave) to accommodate a variety of instruments. Since the reference tone you specify is remembered, it's easy to sound it again whenever you need to.

Adjustable Calibration
The Calibration function of this hand held tuner lets you adjust the pitch in 1 Hz steps over a range of 410 - 480 Hz in order to accommodate a variety of concert pitches, giving you the flexibility to tune accurately to any song or key. There's also a memory backup function that preserves the Calibration setting and Sound Out settings even when you turn off the power.

Auto Power Off function
The power of this digital tuner will turn off automatically if the unit is left powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.

Approximately 85 hours of continuous use
The CA-40 is designed for long battery life, and allows approximately 85 hours of continuous use (continuous A4 input, Meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).

* Even if a sound is within the detectable pitch range, detection may be unsuccessful for instrumental sounds that contain a large number of overtones or decay rapidly.

** The calibration setting and the Sound Out reference pitch are remembered even when you turn off the power. However, when you replace the batteries, these settings will be initialized to the default values; the calibration will return to 440 Hz, and the Sound Out reference pitch will return to A.

The korg CA-40 chromatic tuner is the best tuner i have ever used. Its super accurate and you get alot of bang for your buck. I have been using this baby for about half a year and its never failed me. It only uses two triple A batteries and it makes them last long. Its only $25 which is a great price cus i got it my local guitar shop for about $40. Overall this is one of the best tuners out there and is a great buy.

For some reason, when I'm tuning my high E string, this tuner can't decide if I'm playing an A or an E. The display flickers between A and E. It doesn't matter if I'm tuning an electric or an acoustic with the input jack or microphone. It's happened at home and in studios. I've also tried muting the other strings with my palm to make sure there's no weird sympathetic vibrations that are throwing it off. This happened with a previous Korg tuner, so I think there's some sort of weird bug with them. Anyway, I tried my friend's Yamaha and had no problem....

I couldn't ask for a better tuner! Plus these newer korg models also have a line out, so there's no need to unhook your amp!

cant pick up low notes

By donna

from riverside, CA

I had bought this tuner to help me tune my player piano, it was fine but it could not pick up the notes in the lower octaves at all. I borrowed my boyfriends guitar tuner and it picked it up easy, I have this CA-40 and he had the one for a bit more, the TM-40. I also liked the little metronome feature.

Easy

By Marc

from Stehekin WA

Couldn't be easier to use. My eyes are so bad I can barely read the screen, but the green and red LEDs tell me whether I'm sharp or flat. Why was I so foolishly pure as to go on using a tuning fork all these years? (Great shipping, too. Got it second day even though I live in a very remote town.)

Great in-line tuner

By Val C.

from Reno, NV

Can't beat this one for the price. I really wanted an in-line tuner, and they tried to sell me a different model at the local GC, for more money (and it was not inline). This one definitely works and the little stand unfolds out from the back (similar to a picture frame) so it will prop up. I set it on top of the amp, run a short cable out to the amp, then weave the longer (input) cable through the amp handle. That keeps it from moving around. It definitely works inline, the only problem being that on the overdrive channels (Marshall MG 100 amp) you can hear a hissing noise. So I keep it turned off except when tuning. I find it easy to read, although I have not tried it in dim lighting so I can't speak for that. For the money and what I was looking for, it's great.

A little trouble with the low E

By Kevin

from Virginia

This is my first electronic tuner, so I don't really have anything to compare it with. I am amazed how fast this tuner identifies the notes. However, it does seem to have a little trouble with the low E on the guitar, not a big problem, its very easy to resolve after hearing the A string. Iۡm using this to tune acoustic guitars and a ukulele. Makes tunning a snap, especially with the uke (something I have trouble tuning).

perfect guitar tuner for the price

By Larry

from new city, ny

easy to use, very accurate, I leave it inline between guitar and amp and it's always there when I need it...only (slight) negative is that the buttons are small and hard to press, but who cares about that? Works great otherwise.

Great little piece of equipment for the price. I could not ask for much more. Function is simple and it looks cool. Easily fits inside your gig bag and it's off to the show.
