  • Give your fingers the touch they deserve.

As reviewed by Soundguy29 on 10/30/2006

After trying many different drum pads I've come to a conclusion: the Korg padKontrol reigns supreme. To start with, it has the most responsive touch I have ever seen on a drum pad. If you want your cymbal to be quiet, press softly and you will still hear it. (I tried this on the AKAI MPC 1000 and I did not get a sound). And if you want it loud, watch out. You might scare yourself! Also, if you want all your drums to be played their loudest (regardess of how hard you press) simply hit the "fixed velocity button" and you're good to go. Next, you can assign where you want your drums to be! If you want a kick on your left, simply press the settings button and turn the knob until you hear the desired sound. What's more is that you can even save your different arrangements! Many Boss drum machines have buttons which say "snare" and "crash" and can never be anything other than what they are. The X-Y pad is also a nice feature which alters the frequency of your drums. You can retain your modifications by pressing the hold button. Another thing I noticed is that the pads are a nice size. It's big enough for two fingers, whereas many of the Boss drum machines have dinky little buttons. I would sometimes miss the pads because they were so small! Lastly, the fact that the pads light up when you touch them is just plain cool! I can't think of another drum machine that does this. In conclusion, the Korg padKontrol Midi/USB drum pad is the best drum pad you can buy. It is definitely worth the money and has a ton of great features!

  • padKontrol is bangin'

As reviewed by Trouble2k on 8/23/2006

I bought this after I did a little research and compared it with the other drum pad machines out on the market. I was orignaly going to buy the M-audio trigger finger until I read that the pads on it are velocity sensitive on the entire pad like the padKontrol is. That alone makes it worth the buy. I found it very easy to hook up and get started. The pads feels great and really help creating realistic style drum patterns.

  • Good DJ Product

As reviewed by Greg on 10/23/2006

I purchased the Korg PadKontrol a while ago and it really turned out to be as good as i expected. The pads are just like what the promotional videos display. Even the slightest touch will set them off. The Roll and Flam efects are somtimes useful, and provide dead-on hits. These are good when you are trying to punch in those tinny little kicks and snares or when you want a constant pulse throughout the bar length. As far as the quality goes its ok. I wish that korg payed a little attention to the ruggedness, because i would hate to think how this product wouldt turn out after a year or so of pounding. Thats not to say that this isnt sturdy. The whole time it stays bolstered down, with no movement whatsoever. It also helps that its angled so you wont have to stress your wrist to much. I would guess that its the weight of the product itself that bothers me. Its kind of light, and makes me feel kind of like im using toy.Especially because the lights can get anoying, and there's no "OFF" function. So its kind of like playing with stop lights. I love toys, dont get me wrong, but not 200 ones. Overall if you're a DJ, giging musician, or anyone else who's looking for a fun product this is a great buy. For everone else, like serious computer based musicians, i would caution for the simple fact that its LONG TERM durability it somewhat of a question. Plus you'll get tired of the lights.
