64MB Sample ROM

Sampled waveforms include stereo-sampled piano (from the same sampling session used on the OASYS), electric piano, nylon-string guitar, acoustic guitar, and strings. With wide dynamic ranges and natural instrument articulations and vibrato, these waveforms create expressive, realistic-sounding voices. A full complement of top-quality drum sounds and patterns cover a broad range of styles for studio and live performance use. The TR Music Workstation provides 470 high-quality multisamples and 518 outstanding drum samples for a large cross-section of styles and feels.

Modulation for total expressive control

Various modulation modes create motion, nuance, and articulation give voice to your unique creative signature. The TR Music Workstation's Alternate Modulation provides 42 types of AMS (Alternate Modulation Source) including EG, LFO, keyboard tracking, and joystick (as well as controllers such as knobs and pedals) for creation of sophisticated, vibrant sounds. These modulations can be changed and operated in realtime to give your sounds a breathing, alive quality.

Comprehensive effects Korg took a page from their acclaimed D-Series digital recorders and TRITON workstations to equip the TR with 89 types of effects for sonic enhancement. Two Master effects, one stereo Insert effect, and one Master 3-band synergize with a comprehensive mixer section to control routing. Many effects allow realtime modulation of parameters and tempo-based synchronization, interacting with your songs and sounds to further personalize your musical vision. Parameters can be set independently for each Program, Combination, and Song.

Sampling capability with a simple add-on board

The optional EXB-SMPL sampling upgrade board allows you to sample through the Insert effect for even more possibilities.

Re-imagined Programs and Combinations

Korg's renowned international voicing specialists created an abundance of freshly realized high-quality Programs and Combinations for the TR61. The stereo piano velocity-switches between two levels, provide dynamic, realistic response to your touch. Additional realistic electric pianos, choirs, guitars, strings, woodwinds, and drums are also provided. Includes a rich assortment of synth and sound-effect programs that are ideal for trance, techno, and hip-hop music. In addition to the 512 preloaded Programs, 128 GM-compatible programs and 9 drum kits allow General MIDI level 2 compatibility. All Program locations are in RAM so you can adjust sounds to your liking or replace them as you wish, a useful capability that you won't find on most synths.

Up to 8 Programs can be used simultaneously in a Combination to create extremely deep, evolving sounds. Combinations allow layers to play multiple sounds simultaneously, splitting the keyboard into zones with different sounds and velocity layers that dramatically alter the sound. Or you can change Programs according to your playing dynamics. Control assignments allow further sound manipulation.

Up to 512 Programs, 384 Combinations, and 24 drum kits can be stored to the internal memory and may also be stored or transferred to your computer with an SD card. The TR is compatible with many sounds available for the TRITON and Karma keyboards, with many commercial and user/shareware sounds available for the extremely popular TRITON platform.

The TR can load sounds made for the TRITON Classic, Le and Karma music workstations, using only Insert effect 1 while ignoring the other 4 and also disregarding Karma settings. Sounds with TRITON Studio and Extreme can be loaded, with variable reproduction depending on whether those particular Triton patches are found in the TR.

A Complete Music Production System

The TR's 16-track sequencer provides a capacity of 200,000 notes and up to 200 songs, creating a comprehensive music production system in an easily usable, portable configuration. Realtime or step time recording is supported, and a powerful toolbox of editing utilities is provided.

Set up new songs quickly and easily. Just choose a template song (16 preset, 16 user) that has sounds and effects already set up or use Auto Song Setup to instantly change the Program or Combination you are currently playing into a new record-ready song, with all your current effect and arpeggiator settings intact. Either way, you're ready to start recording immediately before you lose that flash of musical inspiration.

Construct your arrangements in Cue List with up to 99 sections and then convert them into a single song for consecutive playback or to create new song structures. Build songs using 150 preset drum patterns or 100 user patterns as well as using Track Loop function to loop specified regions of measures within each track.

Song data can also be saved on an SD card in SMF (Standard MIDI File) format 0 or 1, letting you exchange data with most MIDI sequencers. Share your ideas with other musicians who are computer users or move your songs into your computer for further editing, notation, or integration with other applications. Once again, Song data can be loaded from the TRITON and Karma line of music workstations* for compatibility with tens of thousand of users around the world.

* Only Insert Effect 1 will be loaded, the other four are ignored. Karma settings will also be ignored, as will Tone Adjust settings from the Studio and Extreme.

Expand your creative songwriting potential

The TR Music Workstation contains powerful polyphonic dual arpeggiators as well as Korg's inspiring RPPR feature, offering amazing levels of expressive power and high-impact playing. Performances enriched by these unique composition tools can be recorded directly into the internal sequencer in realtime.

Awesome arpeggiators Expressive dual polyphonic arpeggiators generate powerful performances. In addition to 5 basic preset arpeggio patterns, the TR gives you 200 patterns suitable for use with all different types of sounds, either fixed-note drum patterns or variable pitched parts. Use one arpeggiator in Program Mode, both arpeggiators simultaneously in Combi mode, and even record their output directly into the sequencer.

The are endless creative possibilities to be discovered. You could use 2 different arpeggio patterns to apply 2 separate key-split sounds of a Combination, or use velocity to switch between 2 arpeggio patterns. Along with the original patterns that you create, a total of 216 different patterns can be stored in internal memory. Arpeggios can be synced with MIDI clock, so they stay in time with the internal sequencer, BPM-based effects, and more.

RPPR (Realtime Pattern Play/Recording) Function

RPPR lets you record a simple sequenced phrase or pattern, assign it to a key, and play that pattern back in realtime simply by pressing a key. Offers amazing possibilities for realtime performance, like switching to different patterns with each key, using multiple keys to play different phrases simultaneously, or adding additional patterns by pressing more keys. There are 150 preset drum patterns, with the capability to create and store 100 more for each Song.

USB Connector

A rear panel USB connector (type B) lets you make MIDI connections to your computer with a single cable — no additional MIDI interface needed! Your TR easily connects with a computer-based DAW for recording or notation. Transmission and reception of sys-ex data allows you to manage sounds and other types of data on your computer for efficient song production.

SD Card for easy, portable storage

The TR Music Workstation uses slim, high-capacity SD cards to save and load sounds, sequences, and sample data. Reads SD card capacities from 16 MB to 1 GB, and easily transfers data to your computer with commonly available card readers.

The TR Music Workstation is powerful, smart, and speedy. The 240x64 pixel LCD is adjustable contrast for optimal viewing in any lighting. You can quickly find the sound you want by using the category select, a function available not only for Programs and Combinations but also for PCM waveforms and effect algorithms. The Audition key automatically plays a phrase that's appropriate for the sound being selected.

Controllers for maximum performance The TR Music Workstation's 4-way joystick lets you freely vary the pitch and apply modulation effects such as vibrato or wah. There are also four assignable knobs plus two assignable switches and foot pedal jacks that you can use for applying alternate modulation, providing you with a full range of control that is indispensable for burning up the stage or cutting sizzling tracks.

Upgrade to Full Sampling

With the addition of the EXB-SMPL sampling upgrade option board, your TR turns into a full-blown sampler. The TR's sampling mode supports 48kHz 16-bit linear mono/stereo sampling with powerful waveform editing functions that include time slice, time stretch/compress, crossfade loop, and more. The user-installable EXB-SMPL lets you connect external SCSI devices to the TR for taking advantage of a wide range of storage media as well as CD-ROM sound libraries (ISO9660 and AKAI-format discs are supported). You may load AIFF/WAV files and AKAI© S1000/S3000 samples and programs as well as Korg format data. (For AKAI programs, only key-map related parameters are loaded as multisamples.)
