I bought the Korg D888 about a month and a half ago. I was a little skeptical about it, because it was a big purchase, and because it was on the lower end, price-wise, than the other digital studios. I took it home, unpackaged it the second I walked in, and began playing with it. Within 20 minutes, with the help of the surprisingly not-horrible manual, I had figured out how it worked. I gave it a test run and WOW! This thing sounds amazing! It's got zero latency, and tons of control. It's got 11 built-in effects and an effects send on every channel. 8 channel simultaneous recording, with 64 virutal tracks. I recomend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive, but eay to use and great sounding digital studio.
I just recently graduated from 488 cassette unit to the D888. Not only did I get 4 more simultaneous recording tracks (4 to 8) but these additional capabilities:
V tracks (multiple takes that are easy to switch between)
Undo/Redo (saved me from over recording a good track or two)
Seamless connectivity with my PC for archiving and transferring tracks to and from my Home studio software. With the D888 and home studio software I can record 8 tracks make a reference stereo track, than play more instruments or vocals along with the reference track on new ?songs? and combine all the ?songs? on my PC. Example: Lay down 8 channels of rhythm (save and mix to 2 track ref track) then while listening to reference track record 6 channels of live drums on a song, then do 6 channels of two guitars on another song (and on and on) and combine them all on my PC and master down from there!
Most of the time I just have 4 channels (two from amp, two live mikes) to pick up my practice sessions. I have done up to 4 hours of continuous recording and later take 6 minutes of something that clicked and put it into a new project! It also helps me to play back and listen so I can hear what I really sound like.
The D888 is a awesome stand alone portastudio or front end for Computer Studio.
On last thing; the D888 can be inline with 8 inputs and outputs to record 8 channels while being transparent to the house PA/Music system!

Makes a great PA Mixer and Recorder for live performances
I have owned and used this unit for well over a year. I replaced my Power Mixer with the D888 and run the outputs through B215A speakers. I run my entire band (Drums,Bass,2 guitars, and keyboard) through this setup and Iam well satisfied with the overall sound. I play an SG bass, and switch between my steel and Tele.I have had no problems with this unit. It is worth every nickle it cost me.
