Comments about Kohala Akamai Series Soprano Ukulele:

It took a lot of effort to get this in tune! After about 10 hours of playing, it started to hold the tuning for more than one song.

The action is not good. The first string buzzes when playing the third, fourth, fifth and sixth frets. It hits the seventh fret.

It is a good starter ukulele and is good for practice, but I don't want to play it in front of anyone.

Comments about Kohala Akamai Series Soprano Ukulele:

Bought this for a friend that was stressed out due to work and school schedules. Spent a couple of days stretching and tuning the Aquila Nylgut strings and tightening the machine head tuners. Aquila Nylgut strings have a reputation of taking a while to settle in. When I gifted the instrument, it was staying in tune, as I broke the strings in right. I tried several chords up to the 7th fret and was pleased with the intonation, which far excel this price point. Added a tweed padded soprano case and a beginner lesson plan with chord chart and tuning instructions. Titled the book in Olelo Hawai'i, the language of Hawai'i. Akamai means strength, so I gave my friend strength to power through this chapter of life. Music is healing.

Comments about Kohala Akamai Series Soprano Ukulele:

I bought it as a starter uke to see if it was for me. I don't think I'll ever need to upgrade.

Just make sure to give the nylon strings a good yanking to stretch them out and it'll stay in tune just fine.

Comments about Kohala Akamai Series Soprano Ukulele:

This is a really good beginners ukulele. It holds tune decently well, but isn't very loud for concerts or venues without being mic'd (but that probably comes from having plastic strings)
